An old man and his grandson sit by the fire place at night keeping each other company while waiting for the light out to be resolved.
Grandson:Oh no! I ran out of battery
Old man :[chuckles] young people these days always on their gismos.
Grandson:Eh, grandpa can you tell me story, so we can pass the time, pleease
Grandson:I am so bored.
The old man internally eager to share his stories shrugged disinterested, but ultimately couldn't hold it back.
Old man:okay I will, tell you a real life event I experienced no one has ever believed me when I told them.
Grandson: I am all ears
The old man began to narrate,
40 years ago when I was still young and adventurous, I went on a road trip with four other friends in the ordest's truck, we were going to past through and visit all the States just the five of us, but we were young and foolish we quickly found ourselves low on fuel and running out on food rations,we were far from any city and civilization. We had already come this far and weren't turning back, we continued on foot leaving the car behind, hoping to get a lift from a passing car....
Just then the grandson interrupts the old man,
Grandson:Wait! You left behind the car?
Old man :Yes I know, my memory has become vague over the years, I don't remember exactly why we decided to leave car.
The boy nods confused and the old man continues his narrative, "As I was saying, we decided to continue on foot, hoping to get a lift, but within two days of walking we only came across 3 cars, and they refused to stop for some reason. On the third day we unfortunately or fortunately came across a log cabin unusually close to the roadside, we were happy to have finally come across other people, we were famished and eager for some food, we rushed to the log cabin in front of which was parked a pickup truck, when we got to the door, it was ajar so we called out to see if there was anyone, no one answered so we entered and went directly to the kitchen to find something to quench thirst and hunger, we did find something to eat and drink. While eating frantically we heard a noise,Christopher the bravest offered to go check it out and Hannah followed to accompany him, they were a couple, on their way out we suddenly heard Hannah screaming loudly from outside, we immediately went to check it out, we saw something we wished we had never seen, we saw lifeless body we failed to notice upon entry, it was already dark at this moment. Christopher immediately ordered us to leave quick, they rushed out and went back into the other room to get the car keys I saw earlier, while frantically searching for the keys, I heard screaming and clanging of metal against metal,I peeked out the window and saw a terrible scene of a headless body riding a fearsome black stallion with blood red eyes and flaming hoofs, hacking at my fleeing friends with a machete, I let out a suppressed squeak and although the rider was headless I knew he heard me, somehow I knew he knew I was there....
The boy interrupts once more,
Grandson:The rider was headless like Dulahan from stories.
Old man:like a what?
Grandson :Nevermind, please continue.
The old man pays no mind and continues
"As I was saying, I knew he knew I was there so hiding was pointless, I instinctly grabbed the keys and run to the truck, I started and accelerated in the opposite direction, after moments of driving I found a town, I could still see the figure somehow keeping up with me on his horse, so I exited the truck and with a shotgun I found in the truck, frantically run through the town knocking on doors which seemed to be barricaded in preparation for something. While moving from house to house I fortunately or unfortunately found two armed men, just now heading into their homes, I run upto them startling them, I couldn't speak from all the panting, I point in the direction of the figure, they looked up and realised what happening, one of the men quickly drew his gun and shouted, "it's headless rider bastard" but before he could shoot, his heard was severed, I instantly knew these men would be of know help I turned and run, when turn to look at back the second man was already dead, I run like my life depended on it, for it did.
Grandson :That's it?
Grandson :How did it end?
Old man :I... don't remember.
Old man :But there is a phrase that comes in my head everytime I try to recall.
Grandson:What phrase?
Old man:"You won't escape next time"
At that moment the light flickered and came on.
