Once upon a time, there was a boy named Ollie. He was strong-willed and playful which concerned his parents. He enjoyed eating sweets and fatty foods but disliked vegetables and threw them away during his meal. One day his mother, Aling Teresa prepared a delicious meal with vegetables for dinner, but he complained.
"I hate vegetables because they taste like grass or leaves." His mother tried to persuade him to eat. She said, "Vegetables provide nutrients to help you grow healthy. You must eat your meal with vegetables." But Ollie refused to obey his mother.
So his mother told him a story of how children who didn't eat vegetables were cursed by the vegetable Fairy Costa, turning them into vegetables for the rest of their lives. He was terrified when he heard the story but he ignored it, and still secretly threw away the vegetables when they were eating.
One night, when everyone was sleeping soundly, vegetable Fairy Costa appeared. He was awakened by a bright that filled his room. The fairy said, "I'm Vegetable Fairy Costa. I saw you throw away vegetables that were fed to you. You know vegetables provide nutrients to keep you healthy, right? You're lucky enough to have nutritious food to eat while other children have nothing and are hungry," she said angrily. Ollie answered, "I don't like vegetables because they taste bad."
When the fairy heard this, she got so angry and said, "I will punish you and you will be turned into broccoli for the rest of your life. You will return to yourself again if you can convince a child who doesn't eat vegetables like you, to eat them without throwing them away", the fairy said. Then, she waved her wand, and Ollie was transformed into a broccoli boy. The curse was done. The fairy then vanished.
As he looked into the mirror, Ollie was terrified of his appearance. He shouted and everyone in the village was awakened including his parents. They rushed to his room. Ollie was afraid his parents might know what happened to him; so he jumped out of the window wearing a cloak to conceal his appearance. His parents couldn't find him, but only saw a piece of broccoli that fell off his hair.
Days and months had passed. Ollie traveled from one town to another but still, he couldn't convince a child to eat vegetables. As he traveled alone, he came to realize how lucky he was to eat vegetables. Eating too many sweets and meat could harm one's health and cause malnutrition.
One day, when Ollie arrived in a new town, he saw a boy, named Josh in the town square eating his lunch, putting the vegetables aside. He thought to convince Josh to eat vegetables, so approached him and sat beside him. Josh was terrified to see him but soon felt at ease. Ollie said to Josh," Why aren't you eating your vegetables?" He said, "I just don't like them." Ollie remembered in him his old self that despised vegetables. But he already learned his lesson. He continued his conversation with Josh and told him his story, how the fairy cursed him and he became a broccoli boy. He needed to convince a child to eat vegetables to break the curse.
He convinced Josh to eat his vegetables but he just couldn't. Frustrated, Ollie left and went to another town. As he walked, he thought it would be finally over if Josh ate vegetables, but that was just false hope. When he left, Josh tried to put the vegetables in his mouth, bit by bit, closing his eyes and are them. Well, they didn't taste bad but delicious. He ate all the vegetables in his lunch! Meanwhile, Ollie was still walking in another town, when his body lit up and he became human again. He couldn't believe what happened to him. "Thank God!" He cried with joy and ran back to look for Josh. He found him walking on the market and called him. Josh was shocked to see this boy but he realized it was Ollie who was back to himself now. The two talked about what happened, and Josh said when he left he ate all the vegetables in his lunch, which surprised Ollie who thought there was no hope. The curse was broken. He thanked him and bade goodbye.
Ollie returned home and knocked at their door, scared. But when the door opened, an unexpected hug from his parents surprised him. He told them what happened and promised to eat vegetables all his life. His parents were happy to have him back and hugged him so tightly. All was well and ended well.
