I was just at my apartment working on my new amateur song on my guitar when the doorbell rang. I knew who it could be, my girlfriend, Lily.
"Aaric I need to talk to you-" She seemed like in a hurry already about the thing she wanted to say but I didn't let her. Not today.
Today is my day. I've got the biggest break in the industry, the one that I've been looking forwards from so long and I have got to tell everything about it to her.
I quit my engineering three years ago in my third semester only to pursue my dreams. My dreams of making it huge as a musician. I've been struggling, surviving off the dirt from the last three years when finally today I got the biggest break of my life. The Jenkins music company signed me for an entire album.
I wanted to celebrate the news with Lily and hence, I just grab her waist, pulled her closer and kissed her lips, choking her in the middle of what she was saying.
"We achieved our dreams tonight, Lily. Your man is going to be a rockstar soon making his debut in the industry with his own albums. I signed the contract with The Jenkins!" I told her in almost one breath
She looked at me definitely surprised, her face still seemed upset somehow. She walked inside my apartment, keeping her purse on the couch. "Th-that's huge, Aaric." She said.
"I know right? Finally, I can walk upto your dad and ask for your hand from him." I said holding her hand, kissing her knuckles softly.
"Ye-ah. About that-" She pulled her hand out of my hand quickly and stood up, sweeping her falling hairs and tucking them behind her ears she walked inside my kitchen and tied the apron around her frame. "Do you want some pancakes?" She asked.
I stood up next, walking into the kitchen and stood behind her frame. While she was mixing the batter, I remove her hairs from her shoulder and start kissing her neck softly. "You know I love your pancakes babe." I husked into her ears.
"Aaric, not today." She asked slowly stepping out of my embrace. She's been doing this from a while. It's been around a month since we got intimate the last time. I don't know what's the problem yet.
"Come on. I got the biggest break of my life today." I slowly walk closer to her and hold her face in my hands, "Don't you think I deserve this?"
She didn't say anything, just got lost into my eyes like she used to before and finally we kissed. My hands sliding around her sleek waist as I hold her up and make her to sit up on the kitchen counter while I rip the upper few buttons of her shirt to reveal her chest out to me.
Her chest-
They were bruised, bitten.
She had love bites all over her body below her collarbone.
I stopped midway and stared at those marks, all speechless. I couldn't believe I would ever see her like that. Marked by someone all over her body who wasn't me!!
"Lily- Wh-what-?" I didn't know what exactly to ask her.
She jumped down the kitchen counter and closed her buttons up. "That's why I came here today, to break up with you. I'm getting married in a week Aaric. I'm sorry." She said leaving me senseless there for the brief moment.
Just with these last few words with me, she left me forever. Without even caring about any of my feelings, without even thinking of once, exactly how was I supposed to live without her.
That was the day, I started drinking since.
A week passed, and tonight, Lily was getting married. Even though I knew she was a perfect bítch and that she would never call me, I still hoped and waited for her call.
Unexpectedly, she did call me that night.
"Hey, it's me. Lily." She spoke.
"I haven't deleted your number, still. I don't know why though." I said in my drunken slurred voice.
"Umm... I'm getting married today, Aaric." She spoke again. I could sense through the sound of her voice that she was crying.
"Congratulations." I said, heartlessly. Exactly like she said she wanted to break up a week ago.
"I wished it was you." She said sobbing silently biting her lips.
"Yeah, but it's not." I said and took a deep breath, "You know what Lily? Don't you ever call me again." I said it to her face and hung up on her, getting back to my drinking.
Even though I promised myself, but here I was, hotel Exotica, Room 709- the bridal room for Lily.
She was getting dressed for her wedding in that beautiful white gown I have always imagined her into. Only it was for OUR wedding.
"AARIC?!" She gasped as soon as she notice me in her room.
"Well say hello to the bride tonight. You look beautiful by the way!" I compliment her sarcastically.
"Why are you here?" She asked and I couldn't help but extend out my fingers towards her face, caressing her cheeks.
"It took me time to realise, that I love you Lily Martinez, and there ain't no replacement for you!"
She looked into my eyes with simmering tears, "What have you done to yourself, Aaric? Are you drunk? Don't do this to yourself. Don't ruin yourself because of me! I don't deserve you!"
I scoffed, "If you think I'm ruined, so then FIX me!" I stepped closer to her and cupped her face kissing her lips slowly, "I forgive you for what you did. I can live with your betrayal but I can't live without you!"
I grabbed onto her hand and started dragging her out of the room with me, "Come with me, let me take you out of this!"
"Wait! No! You can't do this Aaric!" Lily used her hand against my grasp and asked me to stop boldly.
But I know she wants to be with me, she definitely wants to run away with me and start a new life with me. There was definitely something that was stopping her.
"YOU DON'T LOVE HIM DAMMIT!" I shouted desperately.
"Well, HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?" She demanded me back in the same volume.
"BECAUSE I KNOW YOU LILY!" I yelled and slammed her against the wall, "I know you better than you know yourself! And I can clearly see it in your eyes that this is not what you want! That you still love ME!"
She became weak and sobbed even more, "I cheated on you. I slept with another man when I was still yours. Why? Aaric, what do you want? Why don't you just leave me alone?! We broke up right?! You were doing fine without me all these days, then why are you here wrecking my life?!Please, PLEASE, AARIC, FOR GOD'S SAKE, JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!!"
"Please!" And she started crying, hiding her face in her hands.
"Fine. I'll go away. And I'll never come back in your life ever again. I promise you! But just answer my one simple question." I held her hand and wrapped it around my waist and pinched her chin up to make her look into my eyes, "Do you love me?"
"Why?" She cried, "What's the use of this now? I'm getting married in less than an hour!"
"Just say no and I'll go away." I replied.
We both looked into each other's eyes for a moment locked into there. Tears rolled down her chin and then finally, she gave up. Wrapping her arms around my neck she pulled me closer and kissed my lips; deep, passionate and wild.
"I'm sorry, I can't answer your question. I can't do this to you... I'm sorry." She mumbled and stepped back heading towards the door as I slammed my fist against the door before she could open it and storm outside.
"WHY?!" I demanded.
"Because, I- I'm pregnant with his baby!"
Hearing that I felt like a thunder broke on my head as my hand slipped off the door and she stormed outside.
"Do you, Lily Martinez, take thee David Ramirez as your lawfully wedded husband?"
"Yes, I Do."
The next thing I knew was me hearing the wedding vows of Lily and David. Or should I say Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez now?
After the minister had pronounced Lily as Mrs. Ramirez, I walked down the aisle and climbed up the stage, taking Lily's hands into mine in front of everyone.
"I wish you all the happiness in your married life Lily. I'm sorry, but maybe you're right. I don't deserve someone like you. You deserve so much better than me!" I looked into her eyes and she was crying.
"I love you, Lily Martinez! Always." I said and leaned closer to kiss her cheeks.
Everyone present at the wedding was shocked at that. But I didn't care. Nor did Lily in this moment and she said, "I love you too!" crying inside my embrace.
It's time.
I walked away without having the wedding dinner.
Once, I reached my car one of the guests at the wedding came running after me.
"Hey, I'm the brother of the groom's. I don't know what Lily told you about but I want you to know that Lily really loved you. My brother, he got really drunk one night and raped Lily, accidentally getting her pregnant with his kid. The marriage is loveless from both the sides. It was never Lily's fault. I want you to know that she's forced into this marriage because of what happened. She still loves you and will always love only you."
