"Don't let that girl run away! How dare she even come here and bring that curse back to us!?"
"She is a witch! If she makes it alive out of here then I am sure that sin will get back to us and our children! She is a total freak! Doesn't deserves to be left alive!"
"We have to get her alive or dead! Even dead will do! At least we will be able to set her to bait to the godess to take down that curse!"
Now its been almost one and a half hour and I am still running. I am being chased by a group of some psychotic villagers. They think that I am a Witch and are planning on burning me alive.
I don't know from where they got this idea out of nowhere but believe me when I say I am not a witch. I can't be because, I lived an ordinary life with my grandma in Canada. The only extraordinary thing was that she didn't liked my parents at all.
Whenever I asked about their whereabouts she used to get angry and scold me not to mention their names in front of her again. When she died a few days ago, I went through some things that were stored in the store room that were restricted for me, I found a weird yet a beautiful diary. It contained my mother's name on it, Jennifer Rivera.
I don't know in what particular language mom wrote because I was only able to understand some of the words. I mean I know English, Hindi and fine Korean too but it contained a weirdly different languages. She drew some weird stuff on it too.
But who cares the information that I wanted was that where they lived and that I was successful in getting. Rocky Island in West Bengal. So, nothing could stop me next. I packed my things and flew to India.
It was very hard for me because it took me very much time to reach that town. The reason was that the local bus dropped me and said they don't go in that direction. I had to walk. In small distances there were trees surrounded by cement to make a seating place. (If you didn't understand I will leave a reference photo)
...
...
Some old men with turbans and long moustaches and beards were sitting there.
I asked them where the town was they pointed their finger forward towards the road and said "10mins walk straight and you'll be there." I followed the instructions and it left me with the road still stretched never-ending and I was nowhere to be reached.
For traveling more I found some people sitting on the bullock cart. I asked them and they said "10mins walk straight and then take a left turn and you'll be there." Just like the first one it left me nowhere. It continued untill a fine man who seemed to be in his early 30s told me the way and I finally reached. I wish that man to live happily the rest of his life.
I was so done walking in this whole sunny day. It way too hot in India. And my water bottles were at the verge of getting empty. But I can refill it here, can't I?
I was just clicking photographs and wandering around the village to see if anyone was there but it seemed like they went on hibernation in summer. Not even a single child is playing out.
I walked more and more around the village in search of someone. Finally I found a person. The woman was looking in her early 90s. She was playing a sitar while sitting under a mango tree. She looked really weak. Her body was full of wrinkles, she looked as if she hadn't had anything to eat for last few days.
"Umm. Granny, hello! I am a tourist and my name is y/n."
"Hello." She placed the sitar on the table beside her with her trembling hands and looked at me with a brown eyes. Her voice was feeble.
"I wanted to ask you why isn't anyone 'round here? I mean it's day-time so they can't be sleeping, can they?"
"This village is not a place for a young girl, like yourself, to be in. You should leave as soon as possible." She said, her voice became strict and demanding.
"But granny I came here to find someone. Can you help me? I will surely leave after that."
"Tell me whom you are searching for." She asked.
"I wanted to ask do you know a woman named Elena Rivera? She was my grandmother by she passed away. I am searching for Jennifer Rivera and Thomas Rivera my mom and dad."
The moment I completed my sentence her whole body tensed up. It looked like her nerves may pop out of her bony hands. She looked at me with an expression full of pity and worry.
"You should leave there is no one here named like that. Leave before anyone comes here." Her first few words were a shout but she then contained it to herself as she didn't wanted anyone to hear it.
"But granny, it was written in my mom's dairy. I am sure they belonged to here. Who writes lies in their personal diary?"
"I know, they didn't lived here but near here. I would have told you whole thing if it would have been safe here. The early you leave here the better for you." She said pushing me a little looking either side making sure no one was there.
"But-"
Before I could even complete my sentence we were surrounded by a whole bunch of villagers, they were looking all furious, scared and confused. I wonder, happed that made them carry such a mixed expression?
"Mother! My child! She's gone! They took her! That thing is starting again! Tell us a way!" A woman who had brown hair, with some stripes of white hair cried.
"Don't I told you to not let your children wander around in that jungle? Why did she went there?" Granny spoke with a stern voice.
"I know- but wait- who's this with you?" She suddenly said and everyone's eyes were now on me! Gosh! Did I mention they all look really scary? No I didn't! I now I do! They are scaring the shit out of me!
"Red hair! Green eyes! Pale face! Who are you girl!? What's your name!?" A man asked.
"Hello, I am a tourist and my name is y/n Rivera. I came here to search for my Parents." I could see granny face palm over my answer.
And believe me I instantly regretted answering his question. They all looked at me in furry. But what did I do to them? Why they looking at me like that?
"You are their child!? They were abnormal and bought misfortune for us and now you, their daughter came here again!? This time we won't let you go! Guys! Let's get her!"
They shouted and started coming my way. But granny came in between. And they all stopped in their tracks.
"Mom! Get out of our way! She's a witch! She can't be left alive!"
"She may be a witch! But before that she is my Friend's grand-daughter! I may protect her at all costs." She said in a stern voice.
"But mom she doesn't means any good! She's....bla...bla...bla..." The man kept on babbling things. Granny took it as a good moment to whisper something to me.
"Child, just run. Go into the jungle and just run. Don't get caught by them. You will surely find the door that will lead you to your world full of answers, care and love, in the jungle." She whispered.
I wasn't quite sure by what she meant and if I should do as per she said but I just thought of agreeing. I didn't had any choice either. I would be burner alive if I stay here. So I nodded.
And with that my running started and I am still running as you all know. I don't know what they want to prove from this? By killing witches, will this world be a better place to live? Absolutely not! I mean there are certain witches who are bad but there are some who are good too.
But I don't think they're in the mood to think or listen anything. It's starting to get darker, and I am not able to walk with my wounded foot. I fell off of the tree I climbed to hide. I was so clumsy.
Sun wasn't planning on helping me either. The forest became darker and darker. In which I could see some small lights, that were of the Lanterns that the villagers carried.
I sat behind the thick banyan tree to have some rest because they were very far. I took out my scarf and tied it around my wound. It wasn't severe but still hurts. These psycho villagers! Are they all humans? I am so tired by running so much but they look full of energy! I think they're wizards and witches instead of me.
I looked behind me and saw them a little far but they're I'll get here in no time if I don't run. I jumped up on my feet but stumbled. I managed to run a little more. Thinking of getting burnt alive gave my legs some power. And I will surely not die before I don't get to know who my parents are. That's for sure.
I was getting more anxious to the voices getting nearer and nearer when I saw a really big tree. Really really big. It was very tall and very thick. I think it's lateral and apical meristem worked really well. But wait, does that counts on creating a door on it too? Why does a tree has a door? Maybe someone's hiding place. But this hiding place isn't nicely hidden though. But the door is quite beautiful if you ask me. Something's written on it...but what....Gosh...I wish I had some sourse of light...
"That little girl runs really fast! Where did that girl go?!"
I heard the villagers' shouts again. Crap. Why are they so fast. They're making me doubt if they're wizards. They should police complaint against the man that took their child instead of chasing after me to kill me.
I looked left and right. With my leg I won't be able to run far. Maybe I should just shrug it off and hide inside it. I just pushed the door open only to find some creepers and branches hanging messily. I pushed way past them and closed the door behind me.
"I think we should we should go check that area! It has more thick trees, she can easily hide there!"
"And over that you know that this area isn't safe! Let's go!"
I was so scared that I didn't even noticed that I was holding my breath. I let the hand that was covering my mouth fall and took some heavy breaths. I just escaped death. I am the girl who lived! Yay!
Just kidding. I was about to move out when I felt my skirt being pulled. A feeling of horror took over me but when I turned I saw that my skirt got stuck in a branch. I successfully pulled my skirt out of that perverted Branch's Grip only to notice the bright light coming from the back.
I wonder what's there. Should I go check it out? Yeah I should. As I know the villagers didn't went too far and hiding here is more safer than going outside, running like a turtle, getting caught and getting burnt alive.
I pushed some creepers out of the way of vision to find out a worn out old wooden door against an old wall. Light was coming out form the small holes of the door.
It seems like a hidden door. Should I open it or not?
