Claire's POV
I fiddled with my sheets, bored. I looked at the cracked ceiling and to my arm and to the needle attached to it. The needle is attached a tube and the tube is attached to a bag containing a clear liquid. The liquid inside the bag is the reason why I'm alive. I noticed that it is almost empty and I sigh, knowing that Pamela have to go get some more. I never like it when I'm being left alone. Today was my birthday, but I'm not happy. I picked up my journal and open it to another page.
“Dear Diary,
Today is my 20th birthday. I never expect in making it this long. Why can't I have a normal life like any other people? Why does my life have to be so unfair?”
I closed the book and put it on the table beside my bed. It is bare, except for the glass of water. I thought over my life. I have a fatal disease. I have a severe allergy to all normal foods and I have to live off my life feeding of medicines and other chemicals, and my brother abandoned me when I was 8. Oh and did I mention that my brother was none other than Hawkeye? Who am I kidding, I don't have a normal life. Pamela was the only one who took care of me and sheltered me like I'm her daughter ever since she found me. I breathe slowly and the humming of tge machine calming me. I try not to fall asleep again. Sleeping means pain and endless nightmares. The medicine, however, made me feel drowsy and I ended up falling asleep.
PAMELA'S POV
I watched Claire from the door who feel asleep again. After that, I checked her medicine. It almost empty, I will have to go get some more. More like, steal some more. Claire didn't know that I stole it, though she wondered where I got the medicine. You see, in the normal world I'm simply a jobless woman who's in her 40's. I have taken care of Claire when I found her lying in the empty alley crying. At first, she was apprehensive, but she sooned warmed up enough to stay with me. It took me several years to get her to trust me enough to tell me about her past. When her brother abandoned her, he left her with major trust issues.
She has always had her illness. Her medicine is a mix of several chemicals. All of them are bery expensive and we can't afford to buy it, so I have to steal it. It is a unique mix, and we had to do an experiment to get it right. Those first few days were horrible. If one chemical is wrong, it would lead to disastrous results. Thankfully, we found the right solution and never had anything life threatening happened.
I would do anything to keep Claire alive, even if it means killing someone. She is my only family and I will protect her with my life. I quietly leave the house, locking the door. Claire and I leave in an old cabin deep in the forest. It was also helpful for her illness because of the fresh air unlike in the city. And we're also safe from drunkards and creeps.
Clint a.k.a Hawkeye's POV
I shoot arrow after arrow into the target, trying to perfect my basically perfect aim. I was really doing it to try and get my mind off things, or more specifically, a person. Ever since I joined SHIELD I have regretted my decision of leaving her. When I was 12, I decided that I wanted to be tough and survive on my own. So being the stupid 12 year old me, I abandoned my sister and basically deleted her existence in my life.
However, I find myself wondering of what had happened to her. Is she still alive? Probably not, but there's still a chance. I grit my teeth, frustrated at myself and reach out to grab another arrow. Only to find, that I'm out of arrows. I pulled the arrows out and put them back to my quiver. Until, Fury's voice calls over the speakers.
“Agents Barton and Romanoff, report to the meeting room immediately.” I turn and head to the meeting room, meeting Natasha on the way there.
“What do you think Fury wants this time?” Natasha asks me as she walk next to me.
“No idea. There haven't been any crimes lately.” I shrug, and open the door as we enter. I look around to find Tony, Bruce and Steve are here. We sat down on the chairs Fury indicates.
“There have been several robberies for the past 7 years. At first, we believe that they are unrelated. They are only stolen once a year and it is composed of such random chemicals that both Banner and Stark say it belongs to no known solution on Earth. We have figured out the pattern of which they are stolen. We calculate that there will be another robbery tonight.
I want the four of you to go and catch the thief. We do not know if they are superhuman or not, so be careful. The pharmacy you will be guarding is in Northern Montana. There is a helicopter prepared to take you as soon as possible. That is all, you are dismissed.” We all head out to the helicopter and hold on.
“This person seems to be an impressive thief. They have managed to get through several levels of security in order to get to these chemicals. I wonder what the solution is for. You say that it doesn't match any solution ever recorded, Tony?” I said looking at the random chemicals listed on the pad in front of me.
“That's right, Banner and I know evry compound ever formed. Which is the reason we need to catch this thief. We want to know what they are using the chemicals for. Some of these chemicals when combined create powerful explosives, but then some of them cancel out that action.” Tony said, looking annoyed that someone knows something he doesn't. I just grin and shake my head, checking my arrows. We land on the grass 2 miles away behind the pharmacy and walk towards it. Going inside, we situate ourselves in spots that cannot be seen through the doors.
Still Clint a.k.a Hawkeye's POV
“Ok, so according to Fury the thief should arrive any moment now.” Steve said, shifting his shield to a better position. We're already waiting for about 15 minutes and then we heard the sound of the motorcycle just outside the pharmacy. A black motorcycle pulls up in the parking lot and they parked it close to the doors. A black covered figure gets off and looks around if anyone's around. When they didn't see anyone, they picked the lock and step inside the pharmacy. They looked around and start grabbing the chemicals.
“You are apprehended. Stop what you're doing and drop the chemicals.” The person freezes and looks around. Seeing all of us, the person started to think. Taking about 2 seconds, the person grabbed the last chemical and sprinted towards the door. Shocked, it took us a few minutes to pursue. Steve managed to reach the person and knocks them out using his shield. They fall to the floor and the chemicals rolled everywhere.
Tony picks the person up and handcuffed them and carried them towards the helicopter. I pick up the chemicals and put them in a bag to give it to Fury. Flying back to the base, we put them inside a cell. We tied them to a chair, and injected a serum for them to wake up. Their head shoots up and they immediately start struggling to break free.
“It's no use. You'll only hurt yourself.” Fury said walking towards the thief. He gestures, then an agent pulls off the mask. Gray-blond hair tumbles out and the tired face of a woman in her forties looks back at us. Surprised we all looked at her, this is not what we're expecting. Before Fury opened his mouth, the woman speaks.
“I will tell you whatever you need to know. I just have to get back home and give her the chemicals. She is almost out of her old supply and she will die without them. I can't lose her, she's my only family. Yes, I am the one stealing these chemicals. I cannot afford to pay for them. No hospital would help us.” Her voice cracks, and a few tears escaped. Her confession has again shocked us.
“How do we know you're telling the truth?” Natasha asked.
“All of you can come to my house, as long as I give her the chemicals.” The woman said with hope in her voice. We looked at Fury and he nods, handing us the bag of chemicals. There is something about this woman that makes us trust her. Setting the woman free, she starts running around.
“Thank you! Thank you! Now, we must leave quickly, I don't know how much she has left.” We take her out to the helicopter and she gets in buckling herself down. She said the address around the same area as the pharmacy. It took us about 15 minutes to get there, and the whole time she is taking different chemicals and start mixing them. Tony is paying attention close to what she's doing. When we landed we find ourselves in a clearing in the woods.
“Come on!” She exclaimed and took off. We walked for a few minutes and eventually we reached to a small cabin. She takes out a set of keys and unlocks the door. The mixture is now in a clear color. She rushes to the back bedroom and we heard a person crying out in pain. We follow the woman to the room and find a shocking scene. Laying in a thin bed, connected to a homemade drip machine and an old respirator, is a young woman.
Her whole body is trembling and she sounds as if she's choking. The woman puts the liquid inside the empty bag and adjusts the knobs on the respirator and slowly her breathing is back to normal.
I look around the room to get a better idea about her condition. My concentration was broken by the murmur of voices and Tony exclaimed.
“She looks like you Clint.” As soon as those words leave hi mouth the girl's demeanor changes. Her body freezes and she turns to look at me. I stand there in shock, and it took me several minutes to say a word.
“Claire?”
