Three girls of the same sort of background fatefully met in a moment of great curiosity, but great individuality. This moment in time was one that sparked electricity between girls totally different from one another. Strangely none of the girls could know of what was yet to come, the blood of one staining the hands of two. It all happened one fateful night, six months after their first meeting…
Lorna Marie
Exactly half a year ago, to the day, I unexpectedly encountered some extraordinary ladies that exceeded my expectation of humanity. Encountering these girls is what has broadened my life, that instance hit me like a freight train, it was unexpected. Peculiarly there is Ruby, she is quite a mystery and she definitely was not in any way in likeness to my personality, yet she is one of my best friends. Moreover, the things that are taught to us by our elders are things that stick with us, which was something that I overlooked in the case of Ruby. Ruby has this consistently bursting personality but she is so quiet, her appearances are uncommon for a girl thirteen years of age, so her uniqueness is illuminating. Every part of her being was large, she was muscular and tall, and strangely enough thin. Evidently, Ruby was a young lady with extraordinary abilities her athleticism exceeds most of the professionals. In fact, she was so much so, she was no scholar, she was clever and wittier than most, she had legitimate street smarts. Our dear sweet Mal, Mal is a girl like no other, she is such a scholar in consistent comparison to a large concurrency of people. Every kid in our class envied her, she might not have been the tallest, and she definitely was not a cheerleader. Mal was lovely and the sweet one of the group. All of our peers could see that we were something to be curious about, on the same day our freshman year we popped up abruptly. We are all blessed with very elegantly beautiful looks in the terms of the people around us but unlike most people, we prefer to stay modest.
This morning I got a text from Ruby.
“TONIGHT, WHERE THE FOREST IS GREENEST, MEET ME BY THE WATERFALLS.”
---
This rush is terrifying, I am here in time earlier than necessary but it was what can be considered promptly on time. Prevailing in my personality I wore my ripped jeans, oversized hoodie, yet instead of my red baseball cap, I decided to wear my dark gray beanie. Shaken by the splash of the giant waterfall covered in mist, with clouds sharply outlined in the sky, I couldn’t help but loathe the fact that my best friends weren’t here already. Strangely, there is a solemn feeling in the pit of my stomach, one that sinks farther and farther pulling my heart down with it. Where are they? Just as I begin to let my head consume me with concerns, I jump to defense at a loud crack. There they were Mal in her classic school girl demeanor and garb, and Ruby with her sweat pants and jersey. Ruby is quickly behind Mal, yet Mal seems as though she has the same disheartening feeling, Ruby phased by nothing. This sinking feeling looming amongst us does know it’s bounds. In one instant the girls closest to me begin to seemingly fall into the water.
---
Why? Why? All this happened not long after our meeting. There is no way that I am not in the least bit guilty about the accident. Did I make the right choice?
The two of them went under the falls together, and I had to make a very fateful decision tonight, one that you could never think was a reality. There she was lying next to me, Mal, she is soaked to the bone just like me, Ruby was nowhere to be found, I figured her being as tall and athletic she was she would be right behind us. No matter how suspicious Ruby can be the thing that I would die to see at this moment in time, is her short curly hair, and tall body. Slowly but surely I can see the bright red and blue lights, accompanied by paramedics and officers. Mal was awake but surely she is shaken more than I am. Both of us arrive at the hospital, Mal is moved to a room, she is left on an oxygen machine, but other than that she was just fine. It is completely foggy for me though, all these people are surrounding me, it just goes blank.
---
Last night was a rush like no other, it was terrifying. I am so discomforted by the people who surrounded me, but I guess they saved me. The hospital room that surrounds me is white and cold, it is full of echoed beeping, and the pump that was pushing oxygen to my body. My head throbs from the gash that was spread across my face, but I can’t move my leg. Everything feels like a sensory overload, as I begin to settle, the blurry figure hunched over next to my bedside becomes familiar. Cam! It is him, he looks so tired and worn out. I flinch the slightest bit and he looks up, his eyes are that deep forest green that is solemn and beautiful, the thing that feels greatest is to see that in his contentment he sees when my blue eyes shine through all the pain. For me, seeing him I can’t help but smile and give a little pained laugh.
“Shhh,” he whispers.
“It’s okay,” my voice is hoarse and really small.
“You have been gone an eternity”
“No, I was gone one night”
“One night?”
“Wasn’t that all?”
“A month is more like it.”
“Mal?”
“She is okay, she got out the next day, she will be here in an hour. Mal comes every day to visit you for lunchtime.”
“Ruby”
He hesitates the look on his face tells me that she is gone, Ruby is dead. He explains to me that the search party looked and looked, they could not find her, not a single thing, the police claimed that she was dead.
The extent of my injuries are pretty great, the pressure of the water slammed me into a sharp stone, it cut my face and all but shattered my lower left leg. My ribs were bruised and I have a mild concussion. Dad was out of town but he obviously did his best to be there.
Then the police talked to me and I told them what I knew.
IS THERE BLOOD ON OUR HANDS???
