Chapter 1
Eve stood by the kitchen door running through a last minute list of things she wanted to buy for her office desk.
As she peeped into the kitchen, she saw her mother standing by the kitchen slab sorting the okras. She knew it was a bad time to go out as her relatives were coming over for a family lunch. She still asked.
Eve Charles
Ma, can i please step out for a while? I had some things to buy, i won't be long.
She asked hoping it would be okay, but her mother, Mrs Charles, just looked at Eve.
She snooker her head smiling to herself, she got back to chopping the okras.
Mrs Charles
Why have you been avoiding family get-togethers recently, Eve?
She said looking up at her daughter waving the knife in the air.
Eve wasn't trying to avoid them, though she hoped she could.
Eve Charles
Ma, you know i have to get somethings for my office, i have been thinking of it for over a week. It won't take long.....
She said looking down at her list.
Her mom finally kept the knife by the kitchen slab wiped her hands and looked at her daughter.
Mrs Charles
We only talk about your marriage because we all want your good and for you to be happy.
Eve's mom said turning to her
Eve said non-plussed. She had no idea where her mother was going with this, as she looked at her mother
Eve Charles
I don't mind them coming. I know they are family.
She said shrugging her shoulders.
Eve's mother just looked at her with her hands on her hips
Mrs Charles
I know why you want to go out now.
Eve shook her head and asked
Eve Charles
Oh really, do you?
Mrs Charles
You don't like them now Eve, but they are all concerned about your marriage
Eve said as she walked up to her mother and continued
Eve Charles
I know i get little uncomfortable but that doesn't mean that i will start avoiding them. I had some important work so I just needed to get out for a bit.
Mrs Charles
So you don't mind them looking for rishtas for you now?
Her mom asked, looking at her expectantly, as she held her hands.

Mom, i am not ready right now and i really hope all of you understand that
Eve said looking at her mother
Her mother left her hand , walked back to her vegetables, picked up the knife and continued chopping.
Mrs Charles
I don't know child, nowadays......
she said looking ather daughter
Mrs Charles
what you girls want? We gave you enough freedom never asked you who are you going with? where are you going? what are you doing? You had your time, child.
She stopped cutting and sighed. Eve hated it. Everytime this topic came up, her mother would start her usual banter all over again.
Eve had heard this argument a million times but she didn't care even if it is right. She was not ready and she just wanted her mother to understand this simple fact for once. But then she knew that her mom would say,
" Then you will never be ready, child, even if you are 40 you will still feel like you are not ready _ this is the right age ."
How Eve wished she could be stuck being a teenager for her entire life, because the moment you enter your twenties, it's like the family has found some kind of treasure! They all change, they start looking at you differently.
They all talk looking completely amazed even if you walk into the kitchen and get them a glass of water, " Oh look, how big she has become," looking at your parents , making their eyes ask go moist. All Eve thought was, " i just got a glass of water, something i have been doing for ages. What made you think i have grown up in that and what's so tragic in that for my parents to cry?" Then it just goes on, your mother hugs you goodnight everyday like you are going to fly away to another planet the next morning and never comeback.

Chapter 3
Your father suddenly turns into philosophy lecturer, being with him makes you feel like you are in an all-day life lesson and your siblings shower you with love that makes you want to apologise a thousand times for all the fights you ever had, even if it wasn't your fault.
Last but not the least guests start turning nightmares because everytime they came over they have a biodata of the " most eligible guy for our dear Eve" Eve thought it was ridiculous the way people made boi-datas , it was like. a resume. One of them actually read Name, Age , the whole families DOBs, occupations and salaries.
I mean seriously, Eve thought, why i would care about how much his sister and brother-in-law was earning? Nevertheless her family would pour over enthusiastically, chipping for hours together and then hover around Eve for days together
How Eve wished she could just.... anyway that's why she hated talking about it, but her mother would somehow bring it up all the time .
Mr Sharma walked into the kitchen
Mr Charles
They have reached downstairs and they will be here any moment. I will just go down and get...
he stopped halfway looking at his daughter
Mr Charles
Eve what happened?
Mrs Charles looked at her husband for a while and then said ,
Mrs Charles
Oh, don't go blaming me.
Eve looked at her father with slight smile on her face,
Eve Charles
As long as mom can be normal instead of talking and worrying about when i will get married,
Eve stressed pointing both of her and her mother,

we will be fine dad.
Mr Charles
