“Come back here, right this instant!”

If I don’t stop running now the situation is going to go from bad to worse but when the adrenaline is pumping in your veins and your thoughts are going crazy, then you have to go with the flow. Why am I even running in the first place, I didn't do anything wrong. The other kids did it. But of course blame it on the weak one, typically. And one more thing, why is it always so dark here? Can’t the headmistress really not afford electricity? At this point I had run into a humanwall.

“Come here you little brat!”. She grabbed my arm hard and dragged me on the floor to her office. She took out a ruler from the drawer and put my hand on the desk, locked me in place. I saw her raise her hand and the next thing I know pain is spreading from my fingers to my whole body.

By now you may already have figured out that the headmistress is not a kind woman.

Some time has passed since the punishment and I’m laying on my rusty old bed, gazing up at the

ceiling thinking what I should do now. I hate this place, I want to run away. I have been here since I was one years old. My fourteenth birthday was over a month ago, and with that you know that I have been living in this hell hole in many years. Suddenly I feel a shock of pain in my head. And dizziness comes upon me.

I get up and go to the bathroom. I let the water go and cupped my hands to start drinking the water. When I’m done, I look at myself in the mirror scanning my face. My messy black hair with the bright blue eyes don’t match with each other. I’m the only kid in this orphanage with those eyes.

I hear a loud banging on the door. “Ezra, are you in there?”. I open up to see a blond girl with a worried look in her eyes. “Are you okay?, I haven't seen you since breakfast.” I go out of the bathroom and go to sit on my bed. “ I’m fine Lisa, you don't have to worry so much.” Lisa, she got transferred here when she was one years old too so she is the same age as me. Lisa is the only one I can trust here and yes, she is my only friend. She is not like the other kids here, she does not judge me by my appearance. I thought when I first met her that she would be mean and tease me for my weakness. But she diden’t, instead she protected me and started to hangout whit me.

I feel some itching in my hands, I remove the bandage to see my wounds closing up quickly. “Wow, you have always been a fast healer. I don’t know how you do it.” The pain is gone from my hands and I look up. “I don’t know how, it just does it by itself.“ She nodded and took my hand. “Did you hear? The twins are getting adopted to a rich man. They are in the headmistress office. We should go and see.” I nod and we get up and head to her office. When we arrived at our destination, we could hear some faint voices coming from the other side of the old wooden door. I could not decipher the words but before I realized it the door opened, and out came the old hag.

“Ezra! Lisa! What's the meaning of this? Why are you eavesdropping on our conversation?” I backed away until I hit the wall. I’m scared. Unexpected Lisa steps in front of me. “I’m sorry it was my idea. I’m so sorry please don't hurt him.” She stares coldly at Lisa and raises her hand. She slaps Lisa on the face, and she falls down to the floor hard. “ Leave now immediately, before I get more angry!” I help Lisa up to her feet and before I have time to take a step someone yells. I turned around to see the same man who was with the twins in the headmistress office. The man looks to be in his mid twenties, and when I look at him closely he is handsome. His redd hair danced like fire but his eyes were the most surprising part, why did they look so similar to mine?

He came to me and looked straight into my eyes, then turned to the old woman behind him and said: “Would you mind telling me what exactly is going on, and who are these two?”. She frowned and said: “ I apologize, the girl's name is Lisa and the boy’s name is Ezra. These two are quite the troublemakers, and they were listening to our conversation.” The man nodded and turned his gaze to me. My heart is pumping faster and I start breathing heavily, he notes it and smiles then says: “ Don't worry Ezra, I’m here to pick up two little girls. I'm not here to hurt you, but I hope to see you again.” The man walks back to the office with a smile on his face. I breathout and calms my nerves.

We went back to our room. Lisa lets go of me and opens the door in a hurry. She runs to the bathroom to wash her face, and I on the other hand are looking through the window searching for something else to think about then that man. The outside world seems to be dangerous and ugly. The sky is grey and depressing, the oceans are full with waste and garbage. The people are divided into two groups, the poor who have almost nothing and the rich who get water and food from a very special place. As you would know I belong in the poor group but the headmistress has contact with people who provide us with food and water and so on. I feel someone tapping on my shoulder, I turn around to see Lisa with her head hung low. I ask whats wrong but she doesn’t respond. After a minut or two she gives out a sigh and turns her face to me. “ Ezra, I have to tell you something very important. I have tried to tell you this for a long time but I couldn't.”

I title her head up and ask: “What are you trying to say?” She gets up and walks across the room to her bed and takes something that looks like paper which has been hidden well under the mattress, then walks back to me and looks straight in my eyes. “ The headmistress is....”
