Here I'am , taking one last look at the place I have called home.

Moving to a different place would probably be for the best.

I had escape the bittersweet memories within the confinement of these walls.

The birthdays, the movie nights, the warmth.

The coldness that quickly replaced those things, never letting you go back.
Nana
"Are you all ready to go sweetie?" Her gentle voice approached me from behind.

I took a deep breath and finally grasp the doorknob.

"Let's go." I wore a brave smile, finally ready to leave the place I called home.

I arrived at a small town in the middle of the Rockies,

... Surrounded with seemingly endless evergreen.

Breathing in the crisp, cold air brought me the nostalgia of summers and Christmas.

I had often visited this place during vacation when I was young.

Road trips filled with songs faintly sounded at the back of my mind.

"You OK? Do you want some help with your luggage?."

His voice breaks me away from my thoughts.

"All your childhood friends have grown up and your Nana hasn't gotten any younger. "

He laughs before receiving a light hit on the arm from your Nana.

"Like you're getting younger yourself!" She huffed and crossed her arms.

She doesn't stay mad for long as grandpa coaxed her with a gentle hug.

I can't help but smile at the playful relationship the two elders have.

It reminded me of the way my parents lovingly bantered with each other.

My eyes started stinging as the flashback of memories cross my mind.

"I'll go ahead and unpack in my room."

I excused myself before they could see the tears in my eyes.

I quickly lock the doors in my room and held back quite sobs.

There's no way I will let my grandparents see me cry again.

They were hurting just as much as I was and they've been so strong for me.

I took deep breaths to calm myself down.

I've already cried myself to sleep for months since my parents passed away.

I slowly stood up and walked towards my window to let some fresh air in.

I turn to look at my suitcase and stand up to start unpacking my things.

I shot up from bed, covered in cold sweat as I tried to calm down.

This dream kept playing over and over again since the accident.

Most of it made sense to how I remembered the incident.

The wolf was something that baffled even the doctors, however.

They said that my mind may be exaggerating traumatic events of the accident.

"Aurelia, honey,come down for breakfast!" She called from downstairs.

"Coming, Nana!" I answered, getting up for my first day of senior year.
"Aurelia is that you?!?!" I heard a girl call my name out from behind me.

I turn around to see a familiar face beaming my way.

"Charlotte??" Despite aging a few years, her pretty features still remained the same.
Charlotte
"Oh my god, it is you!!!" She runs to me to give me the biggest hug.
Charlotte
"You left me for 7 years!" She pouted at me.
Aurelia
"I know, I'm sorry! I didn't really have a choice.." You hugged her back.

"I really missed you."I sighed, feeling the wave of nostalgia.

Charlotte was practically my sister when I was younger

We had the best time together whenever I'd come visit town.

I had kept in touch before I had shut myself from the world.

"I really missed you too! It hasn't been the same since you left..." She sighed.

"I beg to differ... This town hasn't changed at all." I softly smiled.

"Yeah, so it seems at first..." You catch her mumble to herself.

"How are you feeling? I heard about everything from your grandparents..."

You can see the genuine concern written on her face.

"It hasn't been easy but everyone's been really helpful."

I hated the pitiful looks people gave me but slowly I've come to accept it.

"you've already registered for classes right? Let me see your schedule."

She looks through the piece of paper for a while, checking your classes.
Charlotte
"Sweet! We got a couple of classes together so we can help each other out!"
Charlotte
"It's a good thing you've only missed the first week so there isn't much to cover."

"thanks for the offer Charlotte.. I really appreciate it."

I gave her a smile as we walked into our first class.

We just took a seat next to each other near the back.

More faces start filling the room, surprised to see a new student in the room.

You feel strange as a group of boys seem to be watching from behind me.

Something about them felt familiar but it had been so long.

I was having a hard time trying to remember who they were.

"don't worry about them." She noticed how uncomfortable I was.

"They're all really nice once you get to know them."

I quietly nodded my head,trying not to feel too weirded out.

I hated feeling like the odd person out but there's no helping in my situation.
Teacher
"OK, everyone settle down!" She called the room's attention.

"Before we get started, let's give our student a warm wel--"

The teachers word got interrupted as another student comes through the door.

"Sorry I'm late."

He came into the room huffing lightly, like he tried to get to class on time.

He wore a big hoodie, his backpack casually hung on his shoulder.

Something about his aura commanded attention, as if he had authority.

His soft hair framed his captivating features perfectly, his eyes deep and inviting.

It was uncharacteristic of me to be curious about a boy but for the first time,

It seems like I joined the majority in the room that's under his spell.

He was about to say something else but he stops.

It was like something had caught his attention. His eyes search the entire room until he found mine,

"Your frequent tardiness is very unusual, Christian." She commented.

My eyes widen in surprise as I heard the teacher call his name.

My heart picks up its pace more at the sound of that name.

"Coach Lee's been extending meetings with the league game coming up."

"I made him write an excuse note for me this time."

He charmingly smiled as he handed a piece of paper to the teacher.

"Go have a seat." She shook her head and smiled, letting him off the hook.

I tried to avoid gawking at him as he made his way towards me,

Taking the vacant seat with the group of boys behind me.

I tried to calm myself down. He might not remember me anymore.
Teacher
"As I was saying, welcome to our school, Ms. Aurelia. "

She brings all attention back to me before starting the lesson.

In the school's cafeteria.
Charlotte
"Wow, some things really doesn't change after all!"
Charlotte
She exclaimed as we were walking in the cafeteria for lunch.

"At least there's still one aspect of that guy that hasn't changed."

"Who are you talking about?"
Charlotte
"Remember when I told you things hasn't been the same since you left?"

"Yeah, what about it?"
Charlotte
"One of them is my cousin, Christian."
Charlotte
She points out as we took a seat on one of the tables.

"So that guy who came in late today really is Christian?" I couldn't help but confirm.
Charlotte
"Yep, the one and only." She nodded at me.
Genevieve
"What gossip are we talking about now?" A girl joins our table.
Jessica
"If it's the seemingly romantic gestures Edward's been doing for Charlotte.."

"I still think it's a bad idea." Another girl sits at the table.

"If the guy is serious, who are we to judge?"

"Besides Charlotte doesn't seem to mind..." The first girl interjects.

"Yah, no one is talking about Edward!" She shakes her head at them.

"Anyway, you guys remember Aurelia, right?"

"Of course we remember Aurelia!" She claimed dramatically.

"It's so nice to see our group finally having a reunion!"

"The blackpink girls are back in your area!!"

She beamed she and the rest of the girls envelope me in a group hug.

"I can't believe you guys are still keeping our cabin's tacky name!"

I can't help but let out a genuine laugh.

The first one since your parents away.

You finally remember the girls as your friends while sharing a cabin.

A few summers of dance camp from the age of 8 until your last visit at 10.

"Hey, our cabin ruled dance camp! We can't drop the iconic name."

"We were talking about my great cousin." She emphasized to the girls.

I was intrigued as the atmosphere changes into something serious.

"I'm not sure that's a good idea for a topic of discussion." She seemed to gulp.

"Yeah, I really don't think it's a good idea." She seconded the motion.

"Are you guys scared? Of sweet, angelic Christian??" I was beyond surprised.
Genevieve
"Ssshhh! He might hear you." She hushed your voice down.
Charlotte
"Gone are the days when we knew him as sweet and innocent, Aurelia..."
Charlotte
"My cousin has changed A LOT since the last time you were here."

In most cases, you would've easily dropped the topic and move on...

... But nothing has piqued my interest like this in a very long time.

"We can't really say but 2 years ago, he went on a trip to Alaska with his dad."

"When he came back a year later, he hasn't been the same."

"I mean you can't really blame him." She tries to explain.

"He is supposed to take over the family business after graduation..."

"Uncle's been hard on him with training."

"With a lot of responsibilities, he's not the same Christian you used to know."

"He's gonna take his place as a leader..." She mutters under her breath.

"Like the leader of those boys he's sitting with?"

I gestured to the table where Christian and a group of boys were sitting.

"You could say that." She simply nodded. "They kinda keep to themselves."

"All of them are in the soccer team with Christian standing as there team captain."

"They're the first group in this town to make it to a provincial level league."

"And now they're on their way to nationals. The golden boys of this town."

I was surprised to hear about Christian being a leader and playing soccer.

The Christian that I knew loved to sing and was as gentle as a butterfly.

"The one who seems like all he drinks are energy drinks is Evan."

She points at the loud, energetic fellow.

"The one with the flirty smile is Daniel."

"He is literally good at everything even though he's the youngest."

I nodded, riding along with Genevieve's teasing.

"Aurelia, not you too! You're supposed to be on my team."She crossed her arms.

"Sorry, I saw the heart eyes too. so..." I smiled at her teasingly.

"Yes, Aurelia! See, she knows what's up." We both gave each other a hive five.

The hollow void in my chest when my parents passed away may still be there

But slowly, it's getting filled up again.

It's nice to reconnect with friends like no amount of time has passed.

"Well again, as I've mentioned, looks like some things don't change."

I followed her gaze and turn my head to see Christian sitting across the cafeteria.

My heart starts beating faster as I saw his eyes trained on me.
Jessica
"Looks like our mighty leader has old habits he can't break." She chuckles.

"What are you guys talking about?" I shook my head at them.
Genevieve
"Oh, come on! You guys were practically inseparable when we were kids."
Aurelia
"We weren't inseparable!" I protested as heat made its way to my cheeks.
Charlotte
"Sureee.....We totally believe you." She nodded her head.
Charlotte
"It's not like you too were bawling your eyes out whenever it's time to go home."
Charlotte
"You guys were so upset cuz you kept thinking you'd never see each other again."

"We were kids." I pointed that out to them.
Aurelia
"Besides, is he really gonna remember any of that?"
Charlotte
"Trust me, if there's one person Christian has never forgotten..."

It was finally the end of a long first day at class.
Aurelia
As I put my stuff in my locker, I felt like someone was watching me.

I look around and catch Christian standing by his locker a few meters away.

He was staring at me.

Despite the confusing warning that the girls had told me earlier,

... I can't help wanting to approach him and talk to him.

There's always been this affinity towards him that I felt since I was younger.

His lips rest into a faint, playful smirk. His eyes seem so neutral, almost empty.

I can't help but roll my eyes at his statement.

This Christian is definitely different from the one I remember.

He had this air of arrogance about him, an ego that never existed before.

"You might just find out that the Big Bad Wolf had gobbled him all up."

He walks out of the school building towards the 3 boys waiting for him.

"What did coach say?" He asked in concern.

"It's not like he'd be able to reject a request made by my dad."

"Why do you think your dad called an urgent meeting?"
Christian
"It's probably the bloody massacre of the family a few months ago."
Daniel
"A rouge killing a defenseless human family...." He sighs at the tragedy.
Daniel
"The adults have been investigating the crime scene since it happened."

"The fact that she was the only one spared can't be overlooked."

He looks over to where Aurelia stood, talking with Rose and the others.

"Her scent is human all over so this is even more confusing."

"I heard your dad gave you the task of watching her until we know more."

"I won't be going near her. I've tasked Charlotte to do it. "

"Why? You look like you want nothing more than to be near her."

He simply gives Daniel a glare. They all know why.

"S-sorry, hyung..." He hangs his head low, lowering his gaze.

"Well it seems like the girls are getting along well so she'll be ok."

He indirectly reassures Christian, knowing how the guy feels.

He isn't the same boy she knew and things can never be the same.

As I open my eyes, I catch a reflection in the distance.

A flicker of a faint light in the woods behind your yard.

A pair of eyes that could only belong to a large animal.

It was glowing in the dark as it seemingly watched me.

But in a blink of an eye, they were gone.

Was it just a figment of my imagination?

Or was it the Big Bad Wolf lurking in the dark?
