Fu Sichen was the person that Pei Zhen hated most in his life.
When Fu Sichen was awarded Best Male Lead in the most recent Film Awards once again, Pei Zhen almost flipped the table. A nearby camera caught him leaving in a huff.
“As expected of the eternal runner-up.”
“Please have mercy, Best Actor Fu. Give runner-up Pei Zhen a chance.”
Pei Zhen didn’t even need to read the news to know how the media would ridicule him.
That’s right!
Pei Zhen didn’t stand a chance with Fu Sichen around.
Pei Zhen reflected upon his own acting skills and appearance. How did any of these fall short of Fu Sichen?
None of them did. Apart from being a little shorter height-wise, he was outstanding in every other way!
After some deep self-reflection, Pei Zhen was even more sure of his own abilities.
Hence, when Fu Sichen walked over to shake his hand, Pei Zhen had the urge to both slap that smiling face of his, and give his trophy a flying kick.
“Another accidental win.” Fu Sichen flashed his typical gentlemanly smile, the picture of grace and elegance. His voice was deep and charming, and his lanky body had been fitted with a smart-looking suit. Fu Sichen lowered his head slightly to meet Pei Zhen’s eyes. “I hope you won’t hate me because of this.”
“How could I?” Pei Zhen said with a smile. “I’ve seen all of Best Actor Fu’s works. You have brilliant acting skills. I admit defeat.”
After that superficial exchange, Pei Zhen pulled himself up close to Fu Sichen. While his attitude didn’t reveal any hostility, his words were arrogant to the extreme.
“Just you wait. One day, I’ll have you bow down to me and call me daddy.”
After leaving these words, Pei Zhen stepped back to give Fu Sichen a friendly punch on the shoulder. He then proclaimed in a loud voice, making sure everybody could hear him, “Oh, so dinner’s on you? You really are the Best Actor! Unfortunately, I’m busy tonight. My apologies for not being able to make it.”
The crowd broke into a cheer after hearing that the meal was going to be free.
“Thank you, Best Actor!”
“We’re in for a treat!”
“The Japanese cuisine at the Jin Cheng Hotel has always been my favorite!”
The power of free food was strong. The crowd ignored Pei Zhen and surged forward. They turned all their attention to Fu Sichen, and lavished praises on him.
Pei Zhen stepped to the side.
He gave Fu Sichen a wry smile, and said, “Sayonara.” Then, he turned and left.
“Pei Zhen!” Pei Zhen’s manager Xiao Nian yelled, “Do you have any idea of what you’ve just done? You issued a challenge to Fu Sichen’s face! You’re clearly provoking a fight! This is self-destruction!”
“Why are you so negative about your own artiste, Xiao Nian? Do you really think that I’m that bad?” Before the media could turn their attention to him, Pei Zhen quickly started to walk out of the award ceremony.
“It’s not that you’re bad, or anything like that. It’s just that Fu Sichen is too good.”
Pei Zhen was speechless.
What kind of manager puts down his own artiste by praising other people!
Worried that this was too great of a blow to Pei Zhen’s self-confidence, Xiao Nian reassured him, “Don’t be too upset, Pei Zhen. Fu Sichen has been in the industry for much longer than you have. So don’t be too discouraged. You’ll have your chance when he receives his Lifetime Achievement Award in two years’ time.”
Pei Zhen suddenly stopped, turned his head, and smiled innocently at Xiao Nian. “Do you know what I said to Fu Sichen?”
Xiao Nian’s eyelids twitched involuntarily as a bad feeling came over him. “What did you say to him?”
“That one day, I would have him bow down to me and call me daddy.”
After a moment of silence, Xiao Nian yelled at the top of his voice, “Pei Zhen! You rascal!”
Pei Zhen– a superstar with more than 50 million Weibo fans– had been abandoned by his own manager in the parking lot.
As a thoughtful gesture to protect the privacy of the actors, the organizer of the awards ceremony made sure that the secret underground passage between the event and the parking lot was available for use.
When Pei Zhen was driving towards the exit of the parking lot, most guests were still celebrating at the awards ceremony.
He made a call to his personal assistant, asking him to pick him up. He didn’t forget to complain about his manager at the same time. “He’s so grim and cruel… Xiao Nian is way too temperamental. He’s definitely going to age quickly if this goes on. I’ll sue him for workplace harassment!”
The personal assistant felt immense pressure from being caught between both sides– the manager and the artiste. “Eh… But Brother Pei Zhen…”
“It’s not like I’m jealous or anything. Your Brother Pei Zhen is actually a pretty generous person. It’s just that…”
It’s just that Pei Zhen really hated being defeated by Fu Sichen.
“Watch out!”
The sound of screeching tires came from behind him. The blinding headlights cast the long shadow of Pei Zhen onto the ground. A pure white Persian cat jumped out of the murky darkness, and they locked with each other. Pei Zhen noticed that the cat’s eyes were clear blue, just like the color of the sky.
Crystal blue. Just like the color of a lake.
“Meow.”
“He’s not in danger for now, but he’s sustained a serious brain injury. If he’s lucky, he’ll regain consciousness soon; if not, he might end up in a permanently vegetative state. I’m sorry.”
Pei Zhen could hear people talking around him. When he heard the phrase “vegetative state,” he panicked, and struggled to open his eyes.
He was too handsome to have his life turn out this way!
“How could this have happened?” Through the slits of his eyes, Pei Zhen could see Xiao Nian sobbing uncontrollably. “It’s all my fault… I shouldn’t have left him there by himself.”
Pei Zhen grunted, and continued struggling to open his eyes. He wanted to chide Xiao Nian, “Why are you only admitting your mistakes now?” However, he began to realize that something was terribly wrong– the silhouettes around him started to look strangely large.
When did his effeminate manager become this tall? No… this was beyond tall. This was huge.

“Pei Zhen, I’m sorry… so very sorry. Please wake up. I’ll let you do anything you want– whether that be yelling at the media, or even reprimanding your evil fans… Please just wake up, Pei Zhen!”
“Shush.” A low voice boomed, “Get out if you can’t be quiet.”
The voice sounded familiar.
Pei Zhen recognized it right away.
Fu Sichen!
Pei Zhen suddenly opened his eyes wide, staring angrily at the man while cursing under his breath. But, all that came out was a meow.
What?
He tried speaking again, “Meow.”
Meow, meow, meow?
Unconsciously, Pei Zhen reached out to touch his throat. Instead of an Adam’s apple, there was only fur. Even his hands seemed to feel strange.
Pei Zhen froze and looked down. His tiny hands were covered with short white fur. He turned them over to only to see fleshy pink paw pads that looked like plum blossoms.
Not only his hands, but even his body felt strange now. Pei Zhen looked further down, only to see a swinging tail.
Holy cow!
He… he… he had turned into a cat!
Someone exclaimed, “The cat is awake!” This reaffirmed what his instinct had already told him. Xiao Nian reached out to hold Pei Zhen up, before crying out, “Oh… oh… Did you know that he was hit by a car because he wanted to save your life?”
Superstar Pei Zhen felt humiliated being held in the air so easily. It really made him just want to go find a place to die!
Yes.
He finally remembered how the accident had occurred.
Before all this had happened, he remembered that a white Persian cat had appeared in the underground parking lot. It had suddenly leaped out in front of an approaching car.
Pei Zhen hadn’t had time to think about how the cat had gotten there. He simply threw himself forward to protect the cat from being hit by the oncoming vehicle.
Right when he had just managed to grab hold of the cat, the car ended up hitting both of them with a loud crash.
So, what had happened after that?
Having trouble believing all of this was reality, Pei Zhen sank his claws into Xiao Nian before springing towards the direction of the bathroom. Xiao Nian cried out in pain.
From the perspective of a cat, all of his surroundings seemed to be magnified a few times. He also found that his senses had been heightened. Pei Zhen found that he could easily jump onto a sink counter that was at least a meter high.
He stared at the cat in the mirror. His reflection stared back at him.
Sapphire blue eyes, a glossy coat of pure white fur– what was staring back at him was clearly the reflection of a purebred Persian cat.
I’ve really turned into a cat!
Pei Zhen felt like crying.
“Is Jerry there?” An anxious female voice came from outside the bathroom. Pei Zhen thought that this voice sounded familiar too. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw a white dress.
“Best Actor Fu what brings you here? Um… I heard that my cat…”
“Please give me a moment.” Fu Sichen walked into the bathroom without giving her a straight answer.
Whenever this handsome man was in sight, Pei Zhen would become alert. Before he could jump away, Fu Sichen quickly caught him.
Pei Zhen: “Let me go!”
Pei Zhen: “You *sshole!”
Pei Zhen: “Scram! Don’t touch me with your filthy hands!
But no matter how much Pei Zhen tried to scream and struggle, all that came out was a weak meow.
This was so frustrating!
“Yes, that’s him.” The lady ran forward when she saw Fu Sichen come out with Pei Zhen in his arms. “This is great! Jerry’s fine. It’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have brought him to the award ceremony in the first place.”
That would explain why the cat was roaming around the parking lot.
Pei Zhen looked at the lady with mixed emotions.
She was a pretty young thing.
Recently, she had been active in the entertainment circle.
She had been nominated for Best Actress at the awards ceremony last night.
Being as lazy as he was, Pei Zhen normally didn’t bother remembering names and faces. In the entertainment circle, the only person he could really remember was his rival, Fu Sichen.
“I thought I lost him, so I was devastated. Thank you for saving him, Best Actor Fu.” The lady smiled sweetly while reaching out her slender arms towards the cat. “This must be fate.”
Fu Sichen stepped back, not letting her touch the cat. “Miss Lin Yousu.”
“Yes?”
“It was Pei Zhen who saved him, not me.”
Lin Yousu was stunned and speechless for a moment. Then, she remembered the news about the accident, before immediately expressing her gratitude. “So the report was true? It was really Mr. Pei Zhen who saved my cat’s life? Is he… is he alright? I’d be more than happy to foot his medical bills as a token of my appreciation.”
However, Fu Sichen replied coldly, “That won’t be necessary. I’ll be the one taking care of the medical fees. But, I do have a proposition for you— I’d like to buy your cat.”
“Fu Sichen… Best Actor Fu? Do you… do you like Persian cats too?”
“No.” Fu Sichen paid no heed to the cat, who by now, was already yowling hysterically. He continued to hold it tightly before saying, “Miss Lin Yousu, I know this is hard for you. But, please name your price. You can name whatever amount you’d like.”
“This cat is very dear to me.”
“That’s why I said that price wasn’t an issue, Miss Lin Yousu. All you have to do is name a price.”
