Attack on titan,,, since it first aired in 2013, has only kept getting better and better with each new season. And the third season, particularly Part 2, may just be the best one yet.
While there were a lot of moments responsible for making Season 3, Part 2 what it is, such as Commander Erwin's inspirational speech and suicidal charge that won the battle to reclaim Shiganshina, the secret of what was in the basement under Eren's childhood home was teased from the very first episode. Eren's father, Grisha, promised to show him what he was hiding in it one day. Of course, things didn't go Grisha's way after the walls collapsed and Shiganshina fell. All the while, the next 50 or so episodes went by while the secret of the basement was dangled like a carrot above the audience's heads. The anime used this time to brilliantly build-up toward the grand reveal, which finally dropped in Episode 56, turning the entire premise of Attack on Titan upside down.

The episode came immediately after the battle for Shiganshina. Eren and his friends successfully regain control of the district after the sacrifice of many of their fellow soldiers. The squad finally arrive at Eren's old home, now a battered wreck, and make their way into the basement. Initially, Eren and co are startled when Grisha's key, which he had given to Eren before his death, doesn't open the door. However, they soon realize the key wasn't for the basement at all but, in fact, for something else altogether -- a locked desk that belonged to Grisha.

Inside, the squad found three journals written by Grisha and a photograph of him with a child and a woman, all of them dressed rather elegantly. Most significantly, however, was a detail as small as the photograph itself. The technology for taking photos did not exist on the island Eren lives on. And, as you'd expect, the characters were perplexed by it -- remaking on how realistic a drawing they thought it was. The back of the photograph had a message from Grisha revealing that humanity had not perished like the Royal Government had led people to believe. On the contrary, the people outside were living a refined, technologically-advanced lifestyle.
The following episodes were dedicated to the information Grisha left in his journal, and how he came to live within the walled island of Paradis even though he was a former citizen of the nation of Marley. It was revealed that humans who could be transformed into Titans, like Grisha, were a particular race called Eldians who, outside of the island, are treated as second-class citizens. The way they were depicted drew a clear comparison with the way Jewish people were treated in Nazi-ruled Germany, a controversial analogy that left audiences divided.

Beyond this criticism, the revelation that other humans lived outside the walls, and with 20th-century privileges, was earth-shattering for the series. For three seasons straight, Attack on Titan led the audience to believe -- through omission -- that either humanity had perished outside the walls, or a few remained outside, planning the downfall of those within the walls. Instead, it is revealed that civilization is thriving, with the people outside living normal lives, completely unlike that of those within the walls who are living in a technology-stunted world, in constant fear of the terrifying Titans.

The biggest implication of the reveal, however, is one that completely changes the tone of things to come. Before this, Attack on Titan was a show about humanity overcoming evil monsters. Now, we know that the enemy is indeed other humans, with the Titans only being mere weapons. Over one episode Attack on Titan, went from being an apocalyptic thriller into a sociopolitical drama. For the main characters, it was one thing fighting for freedom by killing monsters, but completely another doing the same by killing helpless victims. This moral dilemma is now at the forefront of the show.
Through political upheaval, Part 1 had established other human enemies to slowly ease the viewers into this drastic change. However, the basement reveal may just be one of the greatest twists in all of anime. It was expertly executed and was foreshadowed over multiple seasons so that the eventual revelation did not feel like information being pulled out of thin air. The thematic core of Attack on Titan, the answer of freedom, was given a new question. What does fighting for freedom mean when the enemy is no longer a mindless monster? This simple change is what makes the basement reveal so great. After this episode, Attack on Titan was no longer the same, and neither will the experiences of those watching.

As is the case with almost all anime out there, Attack On Titan has not been able to catch up with its manga yet. Due to this, there are some extremely important plot and character details that most fans don’t know about. For fans of Levi who love getting to know new and fresh facts about him, here are 10 facts that the anime is yet to cover.
10He Shows Regret For Killing So Many Titans

Despite his deadpan expressions and his extremely strict nature, Levi is a man who feels a lot of empathy. He also places a lot of importance on saving every life that he can, simply because he values the lives of innocent human beings.
He used to slice titans without giving it a second thought. But ever since he learned that titans once used to be humans, he became greatly disturbed at the sheer number of human beings he had killed.
9Despite This, He Has A Hidden Sadistic Side

One would think that someone who has empathy wouldn’t be the kind of person who would derive pleasure from torturing others. Yet, Levi’s like that. This behavior of course is reserved for those who have wronged his people or all of humanity.
This is shown when he describes to Anne in detail how he would mutilate her human body till he got all he wanted from her. He also tortured Djel Sannes, Zeke, and a random soldier he had captured to get information from.
8He Physically Assaulted Historia When She Didn’t Do What He Asked

In rare case scenarios, Levi has shown to let go of his calm exterior and give in to his strong emotions. One such situation was when Historia Reiss was supposed to become the queen of her kingdom but refused to do so.
An enraged Levi grabbed her, lifted her off the ground, nearly choked her, and told her to fight her feelings. He then let go of her, and she can be seen coughing while trying to regain her composure.
7He Gave A Tough Fight To Zeke Yaeger

Levi considers Zeke to be his greatest enemy, more so because Zeke has had a target on his back for a long time. Yet in the battle in Shiganshina that happened between the two of them, Levi was able to blind and wound Zeke without getting hurt at all.

Angry, Zeke commanded the titans to kill Levi. But to his surprise, Levi not only survived but managed to find Eren’s location as well.
6His Comrades Turned Into Titans Before His Eyes

This takes place in the War for Paradis arc. Levi has captured Zeke, who surprises him by running away. While doing so, he lets out a very loud scream. As a result, Levi witnesses his very own Survey Corps soldiers transform into titans.
Levi is shocked but soon comes to his senses and is able to avoid an attack by one of the titans. It doesn’t take him long to realize that it was the wine that his soldiers were drinking, which was somehow responsible for turning them into titans.
5Even Zeke Didn’t Anticipate Levi Would Slaughter His Own Kind

When Zeke was running away, he anticipated Levi being slowed down and most likely killed by the titans, simple because he would refuse to kill his own kind. But in one of the more shocking twists in the manga, Levi showed zero hesitation.
In fact, when he caught up to Zeke by running after him, he taunted him by saying he made a huge mistake by not being able to see this outcome.
4He Instantly Punishes Zeke For His Actions

Due to the strong feelings of hatred towards Zeke, Levi has no issues hurting him over and over again. So long as Zeke’s alive, that is all he needs. So when Zeke wakes up after his recapture, he sees that the Thunder Spear went right through his stomach.
When Levi saw him waking him, he rebuked him for killing his soldiers. Then he starts cutting up parts of Zeke’s legs and enjoys it when he screams in agonizing pain.
3At One Time He Thought About Cooperating With Zeke

Way back in the Marley arc (a year after the Battle of Shiganshina) Levi is shown talking to Onyankopon and Yelena, the rebel Marleyans. The very purpose of this meeting is so that he and his soldiers (including Eren) could have a discussion regarding whether or not they should cooperate with Zeke.

Desperate times called for desperate measures and no one knew this better than Levi. It is also during this meeting that he confronts Eren about keeping his ability to control the Founding Titan’s power, a secret from him.
2He Makes Up His Mind To Stop Eren At All Costs

Much like Mikasa, Armin, and the rest of Eren’s friends, Levi soon becomes disillusioned by the path that Eren has taken. Although his feelings aren’t as strong as wanting to kill him, it changes when he receives startling news.
After Levi wakes up from his coma, he receives a message that was from a message and meant to be announced to all the subjects of Ymir. The message stated that he had made up his mind about letting the residents of Paradis live but killing every single human being who lived outside of it.
1He Loses Chunks Of His Body Because Of Zeke

In what turned to be a deeply ironic situation, Levi did not foresee Zeke launching an attack on him. While Levi was carrying Zeke away after recapturing him, Levi threatened to cut off more parts of his legs in order to shut up him.
A scared and desperate Zeke pulled the pin on the Thunder Spear, shocking Levi so much that he is not able to react. A huge explosion takes place, affecting both of the men. Levi is sent flying towards a river that was nearby. Due to this, Levi now has a few scars on his face and he is missing his right hand’s middle and index fingers.
Titans (also known as Kyojin) are are a race of humanoid giants that serve as the main antagonists of the anime/manga franchise Attack on Titan. Throughout the series, these towering monsters have been terrorizing humanity, slaughtering and devouring humans en masse and have driven mankind to the brink of extinction. The remnants of humanity have been forced to take refuge in the city of Shiganshina, erecting massive walls around it to keep the Titans out. Although the Titans have been present since 100 years before the events of the series began, very little is known about them. Their origins, their physiology and the reasons behind their consumption of humans remain shrouded in mystery.
Appearance
Titans greatly resemble nude human beings. They are bipedal creatures with the same number and arrangement of limbs and features one would expect in human beings. They are all deformed by human standards to a greater or lesser degree, ranging from minor abnormalities in proportions (enlarged head, small limbs, etc.) to apparently lacking skin and subcutaneous tissues, although they do not bleed from such deformities, indicating that they perhaps possess some other mechanism to compensate for this. The vast majority of Titans have a masculine body shape, although all of them lack reproductive organs (they have no need to reproduce since they are humans transformed through unknown methods).
Titans almost universally possess widened mouths with an enormous number of small, square teeth, though some have been known to possess only canines. Still, the majority of Titans have been shown to lack canines, although possibly not incisors and use incisors in their primary activity – eating humans. They apparently do not possess a complete or functioning digestive tract, merely a stomach-like cavity that eventually fills up with what they swallow, forcing them to regurgitate after consuming a certain amount before being able to continue eating more humans they encounter in their rampage.
