Chapter 1 - The Beauty

Once upon a time, there lived a small struggling kingdom called Rive, which was ruled by a King.
The Kingdom had one pride and joy. It wasn't their commerce nor their huge temples and monasteries.

Meanwhile, the tip of pink hair was seen running through the corridor.
The sound of high heels shoes clacking against the floor filled the maid's ears as they smiled at the girl passing by.

Foxtrot! Come back here!
The girl in question chasing after the dog was in fact me, Rose Riverback.
I'm the Princess of Rive and am well known for my beauty, which attracts many suitors from lords to prince's.
However, since I am the treasure and hope of my people, my father won't let any of them dare approach me.
As I followed my dog closely, running across the gardens and corridors, I eventually reached my father's garden, where I caught my dig by the collar and giggled, sitting down on the dry grass to pet him.
Through the window, at this very moment, a man's head shifted and immediately got his breath taken away.

She's my daughter... how could your Prince ask me to give her up for the sake of this country?
Dix Aveguard
She's suddenly your prized possession. I heard rumours that you were going to marry her off to Elfhane once they attacked.

Those half-breeds who will only see her as a trophy and a means to bear a royal heir.

My Prince will treat her with respect and dignity.

He also isn't planning on taking any concubines and will swear that he will only love your daughter, Your Highness.
Alois frowned as he glanced outside. The peach blossoms were falling off of the tree, setting themselves in his beautiful daughter's hair.

Unlike Elfhane, the Kingdom of Trixx is honest and doesn't condone violence.
Dix Aveguard
Consider this, please. My Prince, the only living heir to the Trixx Kingdom, will take the greatest care with your daughter, giving her everything she needs, including love and comfort.
Dix Aveguard
It is either us... or Elfhane. Choose wisely.
In despair, Alois clenched his fists, biting his bottom lip.
Alois Riverback
You swear all of this?
Dix Aveguard
I am the closest to the Crown, Your Highness. Here is the letter that I was given sealed by the Prince himself.
The attendant produced a letter, which Alois was quick to open.
Alois Riverback
Gosh... this is-
Dix Aveguard
If you are not doing this for your kingdom, do it for your daughter.
Alois looked out of the window and right at me. My beautiful smile shone through the sun and all he wanted was my safety and happiness.

I shall ask my daughter. And if she refuses... then, so be it.

Chapter 2 - Sacrifice
Word that my father needed to talk to me quickly found me as I raced through the halls, hoisting up the skirts of my beautiful dress.
He had given this to me for my birthday only a week ago. I had turned 18, the age of prime for marriage.
Just before I entered the throne room, a maid quickly fixed up my hair and frowned at a small bit of dirt on the side of my dress.
Maid
My Lady! You shouldn't play around and get yourself dirty! There is a guest inside of there. Here is your crown.
The maid slid a beautiful silver crown encrusted with deep sea blue jewels onto my hair. This crown used to be my mother's... she was said to be a beautiful woman herself.
Everytime I wear this crown, I feel like I'm a little closer to her. She was a magnificent queen, ready to do whatever it took for her country. She even died for it.
Ever since then, my father became terribly protective of me, not even allowing me to attend my own parties.
He locked me out of the view of the public yet news of my beauty were still present.
The double doors opened up in front of me as I put my hand over the other, walking in like a lady.
As I did, my eyes immediately found the man next to my father.
He was handsome... as handsome as a prince charming like those in fairy tales.

My daughter... come so I can see you in the light, my dear.
I obediently walked forward, looking down until I stopped. I then slowly looked up at him as he smiled.
Alois Riverback
My darling...
Then, his expression darkened a little as he looked at the man next to him.
Alois Riverback
I've got some news, Princess.
Alois Riverback
The Elfhane... they are going to attack.
Immediately, all of the colour in my face drowned out. My legs felt weak... so weak...
Rose Riverback
But we can't stand another attack, so shortly after the last one.
Alois Riverback
Don't threat, my dear. The Trixx Kingdom is willing to aide us.
The Trixx Kingdom? I've heard of that place. Their new ruler made it so that everyone is equal. Politics, everything... he made everything better.
Is he doing this as a gesture of goodwill or...
Rose Riverback
What did he ask for in return, Father...
Rose Riverback
I can handle it, it's okay. This kingdom is mine too.
Alois bit his lip, clenching his fists.
Alois Riverback
He asked not for commerce or material things...
Alois Riverback
He didn't ask for jewels or territory... he asked for you.
That's all he wants... nothing else. Just me...
My Kingdom... needs the support. We can't fight off another powerful attack from Elfhane again.
Suddenly, I heard the rattling of the jewels in my crown.
Whatever it takes... that's what my mother told me once.
Rose Riverback
Whatever it takes out of me... I will protect this kingdom.
Rose Riverback
Mother left it in my hands and I will be its sovereign.
Rose Riverback
I accept your Prince's request... and his aide.

Chapter 3 - The Attendant
Since war was approaching faster than expected, I was forced to flee the castle.
Maid
Only take the things that matter the most, My Lady.
Maid
Travelling light is better than travelling too heavy.
As my request, our union wasn't to be made public until the war was over, as my people needed their hope to fight.
Alois Riverback
I entrust my daughter to you, Sir.
Dix Aveguard
Don't worry, I won't allow anything bad to happen to her.
Alois Riverback
Rose... stay safe.
Putting out my palm and placing a beautiful necklace into it, he closed it over and smiled.
Alois Riverback
I'll always love you.
Alois Riverback
And so will your mother.
At that moment, the attendant helped me up onto his horse as he sat behind me while the maids attached my small trunk on the horse's back.
Rose Riverback
Whatever it takes...
I mumbled to myself, making the attendant look at me with gentle eyes.
And immediately, I faced my fear of leaving castle grounds. I wonder... am I leaving a small cage to enter an even bigger one?
We rushed out of the palace, my cloak covering my beautiful pink hair from any prying eyes.
Soon, after a few hours of silence, the attendant stopped to let his horse drink.
The way he looked... he seemed familiar.
Rose Riverback
Excuse me, could I know your name?
The man looked up and smiled gently at me, approaching me slowly.
My heart lept out of my chest as he slowly picked up my, hand and placed a kiss on the back of it.
Dix Aveguard
My name is Dix.
Rose Riverback
That's a beautiful name.
Dix Aveguard
I actually don't care for it much...
Dix Aveguard
Now, do you care to introduce yourself, Princess?
My name, he should know it already.
Rose Riverback
My name is Rose Riverback. It is a pleasure to make-
Dix Aveguard
You don't need to be formal with me.
Dix Aveguard
Just speak to me normally, like we were just two strangers who met up by chance.
Rose Riverback
We are two strangers!
He then smiled and put his hand onto my cheek gracefully, caressing my bottom lip.
He sent sparks through my body, making me feel a little warm.
Dix Aveguard
I missed that smile...
Dix Aveguard
I saw you playing with your dog before. You seemed very happy then.
Dix Aveguard
I just wanted to see how beautiful you were... when you were in front of me. And let me say this... you are indeed the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.
My heart beat out of my chest as he smiled and picked me up, putting me back onto the horse.
Dix Aveguard
You are welcome to fall asleep. It is late after all.
Rose Riverback
F-Fall asleep? In front of...
I blushed even more and closed my eyes tightly, turning around yet again.
The man chuckled and then, we departed again.
Slowly, the swaying of the horse made me sleepy and my hands slid around Dix's waist unconsciously, falling asleep in his arms.
Dix Aveguard
Darn it... she really did fall asleep.
Blushing and trying to resist the urge, Dix continued to race through the evening, precious cargo in his hands.
