The encounter
It was midnight. The moon was hiding behind the mist while the stars shone dully as if their spark had been snatched.
Jessamine walked the streets of London, sobbing and muttering to herself. She had a miserable life. Her step mother treated her as a slave, with cruelty and her step sister made all the efforts in the world to make her life even more awful.
Jessamine
I will show them both one day...as soon as I leave that house and become independent, I will get them imprisoned by revealing all of step mother's dirty business plots...
She muttered to herself, the plan of ruining her step mother and her spoiled daughter.
As she was walking, lost in her thoughts, she didn't notice that a sewer was left open and she fell in it.
Jessamine
Oh gross- what is this gunk? My dress is ruined...
She got up in frustration and tried to climb out of the sewer, when she heard a blood-curling scream and froze.
Jessamine
Is...is anyone there..?
She slowly walked towards the other path in the sewer, her heart beating fast and her mind racing.
Jessamine
*Why would anyone be here...?*
She stopped dead in her tracks. She saw a boy, no older than 19, looming over a woman, biting into her neck and sucking her blood.
The man quickly turned around as he saw Jessamine.
Mikael
Who are you?? Why are you here??
Jessamine
I...I should be asking...you! Don't come near me or else I will call the police!
He walked a closer towards Jessamine, while she took a step backwards. He held her chin and started sniffing her.
Mikael
You should know...the police can't do a thing to me...
Mikael
Although...you sure smell nice..
Mikael
I mean your blood smells nice...you smell like gunk..no offence.
Mikael
But...just your luck! I've already had dinner.
He smirked, looking towards the corpse of the woman behind him.
Mikael
Well...it was nice to meet you, I'm sure we'll meet again.
Jessamine
What...what do you mean-
He was gone. He disappeared as fast as lightning, leaving Jessamine aghast.
Jessamine took a quick glance of the woman's corpse. Her white dress had turned to brown, her blonde hair damped with blood and her eyes wide open as if she had died seeing a ghost but the most horrifying thing for Jessamine was the bite mark on the woman's neck.
Jessamine took a deep breathe and made a run for it. She dashed towards the end of the sewer and climbed out, rushing back home.
When she reached home, she quietly went to her room, not wanting to wake up anyone. She took a warm bath, got all that gunk out of her hair and slipped into a night suit. She hopped into bed, hoping that tomorrow she would return to her normal old self. Although, the trauma and curiosity of what she had witnessed kept her up, not even a minute of peaceful sleep bestowed upon her that night.

No....no...don't come near me..
Jessamine
Please...I beg of you...I won't tell anyone about you...just spare me..
Mikael
It's too late for that now...isn't it? I hate to ruin such a beautiful face though...
The vampire attacked Jessamine, ripping her throat out and sucking blood from her dead body until he completely drained her out. Leaving her on the floor. Colourless and lifeless.
Jessamine
It was just a dream?....
Step mother
What was, love?
Jessamine's step mother barged into her room and drew open the curtains. The room filled with sunlight as Jessamine moaned.
Step mother
You're getting too lazy these days, aren't you?
Step mother
How about you skip school today and clean the kitchen?
Jessamine
What's Agatha for then?
Step mother glared at Jessamine.
Step mother
You can always lend a hand in washing the utensils and sweeping and mopping the floor. Also, cutting the vegetables and washing the meat...I say, the work never ends, does it?
Jessamine
No thank you, I'm off to school. If you feel sorry for Agatha then ask Ariana to help her, she's always wasting time as well, maybe put her skills to use?
Step mother was shocked. She stomped towards Jessamine and sat down on her bed.
Step mother
You're talking back now?! I see. I raised you, gave you food, gave you clothes to cover your body and a roof to cover your head and this is how you talk about my daughter?!
Step mother
Girls who misbehave deserve to be punished.
Jessamine looked at her step mother uncomfortably and knew she had gone too far today.
Step mother had long nails, she sunk one of her nails into Jessamine's thigh and dragged it down, leaving a deep cut.
Jessamine had learned how to the endure pain and held back her tears.
Then Jessamine pulled back her step mother's hand and quietly went off to get ready for school.
As she got out from the bath, and started changing, she recalled yesterday's incident in the sewer. Chills went up her spine and blood gushed through her veins. She wondered if the police found the body or if the boy was caught.
As she dwelled upon the incident, her step sister Ariana stormed in the her room. Jessamine snapped out of her thoughts.
Ariana
You're going to make me late! Come out now or I'm leaving you behind!
Ariana
There's no time for you to do breakfast by the way!
Jessamine
All right. I'm coming.
Jessamine pushed back the urge to say something more in return by she knew better.
Ariana
FYI, if you're wearing that for school, and people say stuff...then don't say I didn't warn you...
Jessamine
As if I care about your opinion...
Jessamine muttered to herself.
Jessamine smiled. A bitter-sweet smile.
Ariana glared at Jessamine one last time before she stomped out of the room leaving Jessamine alone so she could finish getting ready.

Jessamine walked the halls of the school, still pondering over the incident with the boy and the dead woman. Jessamine thought about how that woman must have had a family who must be worried sick about her...or that woman could be like Jessamine, didn't have anyone to love her or doesn't care whether she's dead or alive...
Laura
Heyyyy! Jessie! Over here!
Jessamine snapped out of her thoughts and looked towards her locker where she saw her best friend Laura.
At least Jessamine had Laura to care about her.
Jessamine smiled and rushed over to Laura, who had just returned from Paris.
Laura
Ohhh! It's been three whole weeks since I last saw you!
Jessamine
I know...I missed you so much!
Laura
The feeling is mutual!
Laura
By the way!! I bought something for you from Paris!
Laura
Although... I'm still mad at you for not coming with me!
Jessamine
I told you, I'm sorry! Step mother didn't let me come... that old hag-
Out of nowhere Ariana appeared in the hallway.
Ariana
Talking about my mummsie like that?!
Ariana kicked Jessamines knee.
Ariana
Well...later sissie!
Ariana walked away and joined her girl gang.
Jessamine rubbed her knee and muttered curse words under her breathe.
Jessamine
Yes, don't worry about it
Laura
She hasn't changed one bit, has she?
Jessamine
Nop- well enough talks about her...show me what you got for me? From the city of romance!
Laura took out a bag from her locker and handed it to Jessamine.
Jessamine
No way! These dresses are from Madam Louvre's collection!!
Laura
I know!! I got matching dressed for both of us to wear together!
The girls squealed and jumped together in excitement.
Laura
Aww, time for class already?..
Jessamine
I've got literature...you?
Jessamine
Well, see you after class
Laura
Let's go to Shawn's Cafe?
Jessamine
Finally! Class is over!
Jessamine walks out of class to see that Laura is waiting for her next to the main gate.
Jessamine walks over to Laura.
Jessamine
What do you wanna have? My treat!
Laura
Hmmm...How about some beer?
Laura winked at Jessamine.

MARCEL! TWO BEERS PLEASE!
Jessamine shouted out the order to Marcel, the waiter.
Laura
So tell me more about your life! Who's the lucky guy?
Laura winked again at Jessamine.
Jessamine
No one right now... all the guys in my classes are either too boring or too simple..
Laura
Oh, that's just sad-
Jessamine
What about you??
Laura
Well....when I went to Paris there was this guy-
Everyone in the cafe was staring at them.
Jessamine
Nothing to look here folks!
Jessamine said looking around.
Laura
You kidding? Everything to look is here-
Marcel brought over the beers to their table.
As Jessamine took her drink and looked up, she saw the boy from the sewers walk in. He looked at her and a grin spread over his face.
Laura
Soo where were we? Ah yes, the French guy- my French guy I mean-
Jessamine
Laura, can we catch up later? I have to go right now.
Jessamine got up and rushed out of the cafe.
