The steady beat of drums filled the air. It echoed in the distance. The night was cool and dark and my feet flew across the soft land. I ran around trees and bushes. Trying to lead them away from what I cared about most . My Mate howled to my right grabing their attention. I dashed out of the trees and into a meadow. There was no cover here. No where to hide, how ever this was the plan. My Mate hid in the shrubbery, as I waited for our pursuers. It was quiet, to quiet. There was a faint bit of movement at the tree line. Then all of a sudden the ground erupted with darkness. Every living thing it touched shriveled and died in its quake. and at the center of this evil stood one man. As pale as freshly fallen snow. He approached saying in a midnight deep voice, The last of the pureblood must fall. He attacked straight on. I faced him knowing alone I may die, but I was never alone. My mate emerged from hiding, bolting towards our enemy. we battled together, tearing and ripping at flesh as hard as stone. The man knowing his mistake suddenly vanished into the shadows. an eerie laughter reverberated through my head, saying now you have lost. I did not understand till I heard the wailing of my child. He reappeared near me. Fear took over. I lashed out teeth baird. latching on to his throat. Ripping at it. It was like tearing into stone. My mate tore at his leg. Then he shattered into a million tiny black diamonds. My mate communicated to me, saying that there may be more we should go back to check on our daughter. I ran to her a gun shoot sounded but the sound came from behind me. My mate fell to the ground. A howl of grief escaped me. For i could not turn back Because the urgency to get to my daughter was too great. When I reached the hiding spot she was not there. The wailing stopped I could not hear her. I could not smell her. I searched but she had completely disappeared. The only thing that remained was The smell of human. the Dank musk filled the air. There was a lot of them which meant I would never be able to retrieve her, however my daughter would be safer with them because their smell would hide hers from the vampires. At least until she started to change. This was never what I wanted. But it may be for the best. We are being hunted she wouldn't have ever made it to 5 let alone 15. don't worry my love when the time is right I will come for u, and we will be a family again. We are not the last. There will always come another. I howled my goodbyes and went back to my Mate. He lay on the ground. I sniffed him. it's not fatal. The shoulder will heal.
I opened my eyes to the sound of my mom banging on the door.Come on wake up! I reluctantly pulled off my warm covers. Another day. I smiled and realized today wasn't just any day. Happy birthday Raina! mom calls from the door. I swiftly dress and dash down the hall, with my suitcase. My mom, dad and brother were waiting for me, all with huge smiles on their faces. Are you ready to go? Dad asked. Not yet, remember what you told me? Giving an evenly matched smile of my own. Ah... Yes. How could I forget. He pulled out a present from behind his back, giving it to me with shaky hands. I quickly unwrap it, opening the box inside. A heart charm necklace! I love it! Thank you so much dad! I knew you would. Did u pack every thing u need? Of course! So we all got into the car after loading everything. Which was a lot. Every one was excited to take this trip. We are going to the cabin near the place where my parents first found me. Yes I knew I was adopted. I mean u could just flat out tell. I look completely different from them. However the fact doesn't change how I feel towards my parents or older brother. If anything it only strengthens my resolve, because they saved me. I was abandoned in a field surrounded by tree's that were infested with Wolves. I remember the story they told me. About hearing howling in the distances, while they were out hunting. They didn't get very far though, because they found me not even a mile from their cabin. Around this time of the year, every year, on my birthday, we go back to the cabin to remember the day they found me. Early spring when the wind has a bit of a chill, but the sun is warm and the ground is soft, with freshly blooming flowers. The cabin is owned by Mom and dad so we can come here when ever we want. We arrived quicker than I thought. We helped each other unpack the car and set up the decorations. The cabin was a bit dusty to. It's only ever used on holidays or my birthday. I'm the one who chooses to come here every year for my birthday. I'm so drawn to this place. It's like the woods here call out to me inviting me in. even now I can feel my heart longing to take an exciting hike through it, off trail. I've never done it for fear of getting lost. When I was younger, but today is going to be the day I try it. I just have a feeling I could never be lost in these woods. Almost as if it's my true home. I sit out side on our porch. waiting for supper to finish. The smell of grilled steak was wafting through the air, making my stomach growl vigorously. I kept breathing in the beautiful aroma until something dank and musty wafted in as the wind picked up. In instinct I jerked my head towards the Direction the smell originated. In the woods I could see something move. It had an odd color of fur. like reds, grays, whites, and blacks all battling for dominance over the other. I don't know how I was able to see let alone smell the animal. The tree line had to be several yards away.
The night dragged on. I opened my presents; we all had some cake, but I felt restless and edgy. It had started this afternoon after seeing that animal. My body is riddled with pain. I feel pint up and hot. It's nearly 9, and it's relatively cool outside at this time. I must have caught something. mom I'm going to step outside for some fresh air. ok honey don't be to long. I'm just about to beat ur dad at Go Fish. Wouldn't want to miss that. I sated with a smile. I headed for the back door, to sit on the porch. I can still see my breath. even though spring just started. Then I heard it and my heart pounded. A howl so loud it shook the house pierced the night air. my breath caught in my lungs. I can see the creature about 10 yards off. it's not possible. It was huge, it's fur as white as the moon and it's eyes glowed blue, silver. It watched me as if waiting for a response. The moon light gave it's fur an eerie glow. Moon light... my eyes follow involuntarily towards the giant full moon. My ears began to ring. My body began to shake. I grip my head to try to make it stop. my flesh began to crawl as if there were spiders shimmying down my spine. I could only think I could only feel one word. With all my being I ran. I ran to be free. my body stretched every leap. I changed my form was now a wolf, and I was completely aware. I was no mindless beast, as says the fairytales. my fur was various shades of white, black, and brown. I run to the white wolf and howled my response, but before I reach him he bowed his head and vanished. Right before my eyes. The wolf turned into blue spots of falling light. What was that? my body didn't want to stop moving. so I didn't I ran. enjoying all the freedom and the feeling of being a wolf. I was stong, fast, and I couldn't feel the cold. This feeling is like nothing else I've ever felt. The wind rushing through my fur. I can smell everything, and I can see everything. I can hear everything. And so much more. I could feel a connection to this place. I wasn't sure were I was going but my gut told me I knew. I just hadn't figured it out yet. I dashed out into an open meadow. I smell the air. Another had been here recently but by the smell they were long gone by now. This is when the thought struck me. I'd never wondered about my parents till now. Did they know? Is that why they abandoned me? Were they like me? Did they actually abandon me? Was it a mistake to believe they did my whole life. Was it a mistake to hate them for what they did? That they might not have even done.
