After a ten hour drive from the city of Newsbury, their old home, Eve finally arrive at the peaceful little town of Petlya Palacha when the sun is setting, giving way for the night to come. The small, serene town is surrounded by large thickets of trees. She look at her mirror to see the backseat of the car. Two small kids are seen, asleep. A young boy about ten, is leaning against the side, asleep, his black hair cover his eyes a bit. Leaning against the sleeping boy, a little girl around the same age as the boy, is also asleep, hinting the two are twins. She chuckle when she sees the twins asleep.
She continue driving as she goes through the town and down a shopping area. A mass array of buildings are seen on both side, many are small shops, restaurants and even a handful of bars. A barbershop with an antique look to its front that draw in customers, a home cook restaurant with the smell of food that parents would make, and then, the main attraction, the crown jewel of the place, a large clock tower in the center of the entire town. In front of the ancient clock tower, stands a large plaza with a fountain containing beautiful statues of angels, each holding a chalice that let out water. People and families alike walk around in the plaza or go to the small swap meet where merchants sell a variety of clothing, food, or other accessories. Eve continue her way until she reaches the residential area.
Long lines of houses are seen on both sides of the road as far as the ***** eye can see. All have neatly mowed lawns and are usually two stories high, but some are only one. Even fewer have really big lawns. Soon, the twins stir and start waking up. Soon, she pulls up to a particular house. The house is painted a nice shade of blue with a red roof. It is two stories high. Some windows are seen as well. A small garage is seen next to the main house. Once she parks on the small lane, she look back at the twins and smile.
"Here we are, guys, our new home. I'm sorry for the long drive. Want to go check it out?" Eve ask the twins, who nod in response.
"I wanna see! I wanna see!" The young girl shout out as she start taking off her seatbelt, followed by the little boy. They both get down with Eve and follow behind her. They stand in front of the door, waiting for their big sister. Eve, with keys at hand, unlocks the door and open it, letting the two kids and herself inside. She flip on the light switch, revealing a large living room. Two couches fit for two people face a stand with a good sized TV. A shaggy carpet with brown and black designs is underneath the couches and TV stand. A small coffee table is set in the middle, in front of the couches. Another doorway leads to the other sections of the house. The twins goes to sit on the couches and relax. Eve close the door behind her and sigh.
"Ok guys, you can stay here and get comfortable. I'll check out the rest of the house." Eve said to the twins, who nod in agreement. Eve then goes to the doorway to see a small hallway with multiple doorways. On the end to her right leads to a stairways towards the second floor. The left side contains the other doorways to the other rooms. She flip on another switch to light up the hallway. Eve continue her pace to the right and go up the stairs. Soon, she is on the second floor. Three more doorways are seen ahead of her on both sides. She goes over and open the door to her left, revealing the master bedroom. A king sized bed is seen with no sheets on them. A bookcase is also seen sitting in a corner with lots of books. A dresser on the left of the bed with a small TV set is positioned. Beside the bed, a nightstand stands with a large lamp. A door leads to a bathroom. She nod with satisfaction, thinking it is worth paying to buy the house. She left the room and checks the other door across the bedroom. She look within to see another bedroom, only this room is a bit smaller, possibly a room for children. Two full sized beds stands next to each other to the left of the room. Between them is another night stand, but a bit wider. A dresser is positioned to the the right of the room with another TV set.
She think to herself. "This is perfect for them. Now, I should get them to change to their pajamas and rest for the night." She look out the window, nighttime is upon the town. She goes back down the stairs and back into the living, but only to see the twins, sleeping on the couches. She smile softly at the sight of the twins and went over to them, and shake them a bit. They stir and look up to Eve with drowsy eyes.
"Lilian, Danny, wake up, sleepyheads. Let's go get your bags from the car, so you can change to pajamas. We have a busy day tomorrow." Eve explained to the twins. They groan and moan, but they got up and put their coats back on. They went back to the car and got down their luggage. Lilian's bag is a pink bag with white lilies printed throughout the bag, while Danny's bag is a bright blue with red spots throughout. They head back inside, and Eve lead them to their room. Lilian stays in their room to change while Danny goes the bathroom to change. Eve stays in her bedroom and change into her laced nightgown, which is pink with red flowers. Once she is done, Danny got out, wearing his pajamas, which is a blue onesy with black paw prints all over it. Immediately after, Lilian is also done. She is wearing a pinkish long sleeve shirt with crowns all over with reddish pink pants with hearts. Eve then set up a nightlight on the plug that is between their beds. She then kiss them on their foreheads and smile, seeing they are falling asleep.
"Goodnight, Lillian, Danny. We have a big day tomorrow. Get some rest." Eve whisper to them and slowly walk out. She goes back to her new bedroom and lay on her bed. After a few minutes, she is asleep.
The following morning, around 9 a.m., Eve stand in front of the electric stove, cooking some breakfast for her and her siblings. Danny and Lilian are still sleeping upstairs, but once the smell of scrambled eggs laced with cheese, crispy bacon, and soft and fluffy banana pancakes fill the air and pinpoint to their noses, kicking up their sense of smell into overdrive, they wake up immediately and run down the stairs, pushing each other to try to get down there first. As they are about to reach the bottom of the stairs, Eve yell out to them once she heard their thumping footsteps .
"Danny, Lilian, no running down the stairs" She called out. The twins skid to a halt and walk down the rest if the stairs before taking off once they're down. As they barge in, laughing and giggling, they go over to the small dining table. She look back to them and smile.
"Now, come over and help me set up the table, you two. I can't do everything myself." Eve told the two, who groan, but ended up, going to help her anyway, gathering the plates and cups and setting them on the table. After about ten more minutes, Eve is done cooking. She scrape off the eggs on to the plates the twins set up. She set up the plate of bacon in the middle of the table along with the pancakes. Eve even got out a carton of orange juice. Once they give their thanks, they all go to chow down on their delicious breakfast. Danny starts eating the scrambled eggs while Lilian start cutting up a pancake first. Eve takes a sip of her glass of orange juice before the doorbell rang. She gets up to check.
"You two can continue eating. I'll go check the door." Eve stated. "Ok." They respond before going back to eating their food. Eve starts walking up to the door, putting on her coat from yesterday. She opens the door to reveal a man dressed in a brown collared shirt with a movers logo and cargo pants.
"Good morning, miss. I hope I didn't catch you at a bad time." The man remark. Eve shakes her head.
"Oh no, it's fine. I see the rest of our stuff finally arrived." Eve observed, seeing the large truck up front.
"Yes," said the man. "Now, we can start by getting the furniture down, and move on to appliances last. How does that sounds?" He ask her.
"Sure, that'll be fine. Let me just go change and I will come out in a moment." She said before the man nod and goes back to the other worker to get started. She goes back inside and went to her room to change into some comfortable clothes, such as a loose t-shirt and jeggings. Once she gets back outside to watch the move go underway, she heard someone calling out from behind. She turn to see a middle aged man with a woman of the same age calling out to her. The man appears to be wearing a black Polo shirt and a black fedora. The woman is wearing a pinkish red dress shirt with a pink skirt.
"Morning, are you the new neighbor?" The man ask Eve in a slight Russian accent. "Welcome to our fair town."
"Thank you. Yes, we just moved in last night. My name is Eve." She introduced herself. The man takes his hat off and nod.
"Name's Ralph, Ralph Ayromos. This is my wife, Sophie." "Hello and welcome, Eve." She introduced herself to Eve. "We hope you enjoy your time here." "Thanks, you two. I hope so, too. It is so clean and such a quiet place. I think my siblings will love it here as well. Well, I got to get back. My kid brother and sister must be waiting for me." Eve stated when she look back to see two heads popping out of the doorway.
"Take care, Eve. Just give us heads up if you have some questions." Ralph said as he and Sophie turn and goes back to their house, which is across the street from theirs. Eve turn as well and goes back with the twins, who went back to the dining room to continue eating. Eve sit down as well and enjoy the rest of the breakfast while the movers are bringing in their furniture amd other things.
It had been three days since Eve and the twins had move in to their new homes. During those days, Eve was busy looking into the schools and getting the twins back on track to attend school again, so that they don't fall behind on their education. After going through the process of getting the twins back in school and signing up numerous paperwork and attending meetings with the teachers, getting to know the neighbors and help out with moving their stuff around during all of this, she found herself exhausted from the massively productive time. However, she was only done with the twins. Eve then heads out later that day to the shopping district to find herself a job. She walk down the sidewalk, going through pedestrians of all ages. Some are couples and some are families. She pass by many store fronts and restaurants, but not a single one is willing to hire her or are looking to hire someone. After at least two hours of walking and searching, she decides to take a rest and goes to sit on a bench at the town square. She sigh, disappointed about not being able to find a job to support her and her siblings. She ponder about her next move and what to do if she can't find a job before the bills and payment of the house was due. Then, a young man about her age, twenty years of age, goes to sit next to her. He has black, messy hair that hasn't seen a comb in years. He is wearing a black and red sweater, cut up gloves, and jeans. He look at her and smile.
"Hey there, what's with the frown?" The young man asked Eve, who look up at him.
"Well, I just couldn't find a job here. No one is hiring and I need a job to support my siblings." Eve explained. "But, why are you concerned about that?" She ask the young man, confused about him. He nod.
"Tough luck, huh? You're not from around here, are you?" He observed, disregarding her question. Eve nod in response and sigh, seeing he is not gonna answer her question about him.
"I just moved here a few days ago." She stated. "And you are?"
"Ah, right. Sorry about that. The name's Nicholas, but everyone here call me Nick. Welcome to Petlya Palacha." He address before extending his hand out to her. She hesitated at first to shake his hand, but seeing he can be trusted, she smile and takes his hand, shaking it. Then, a hunched old man in a brown coat start to shout something in the middle of the plaza. He sounded worry about something.
"My brothers and sisters, hear me! He's coming back! The end is almost upon us! He will return to inflict punishment on us! We must band together and rid ourselves of this incoming threat to our existence!" The old man yell out to the unsuspecting pedestrians before a couple of officers went up to put him in handcuffs and start taking him away as he was causing a scene with his rants. Eve look back to Nick.
"Mind if I ask what was that about?" Eve questioned Nick, who shakes his head at the scene.
"Don't know. He's been like that for a couple of weeks now. He's been spouting that nonsense since then. Anyway, I know a restaurant not too far from here who's in need of a working hand. Want me to take you there? They got a pretty good pay and benefits." Nick asked Eve.
"Yes, please. That will be extremely helpful." Eve said. "Thank you."
"No problem." Nick stands up. "Just follow me and we'll get there in no time." He starts walking with Eve following beside him.
As they're heading over to said restaurant, Nick over to Eve and tries to start a conversation.
"So, is it just you and your siblings here? You don't have any relatives?" Nick asked. Eve look at Nick and shakes her head.
"No, my parents died in a boating accident when my brother and sister were just babies. They don't have siblings of their own, so it leaves us as orphans. So, at the age of sixteen, I set off to start supporting us." Eve explained to Nick about their circumstances.
"Must be bloody tough to care for them and working." Nick stated. "I would not even last that long."
"Yeah........ So, what about you?" Eve asked. "What's your story?"
"Still living with me pa. Mum left home when I was eight. Never came back. So, I dropped out of high school to help me pa in supporting us since his work cause to move place to place before settling down here. So, I know how tough it can be. Anyway, how old are you? Ya seem a bit young still." Nick ask jokingly. Eve chuckle at the question.
"Strange question to ask a girl. Anyway, I'm twenty. You?"
"I would say the same thing to you. But, I'll tell you anyway. I am twenty two."
They both laugh and continue talking until ten minutes later, they arrive at their destination. The restaurant has a nice, homey feeling radiating from it. It is structured and designed as it is came straight from the 80s. Tables and chairs are seen outside along with a few people eating. A large sign above the entrance read, The Country Cooking House.
"Well, here we are. Just go in and ask for the manager. Tell him, Nick sent ya here."
"Sure thing. And again, thank you, Nick, for helping me." Eve said. "I don't know what I'll do if I haven't find a job any time sooner."
"No problem. Maybe later today, we can hang out again."
"Sure."
"Take care, Eve, and good luck. Ya gonna need it." Nick said before waving goodbye to her. Eve wave back and head inside her home.
