Blue Moon
One snowy early morning in Ohlaval Village, I was in a deep sleep until I felt a pulling on my shirt. I slightly peeked out of one eye, wondering what was waking me up so early.
“ Come on Isaac, it's snowing!” My sister Anabella groaned,
shaking me back and forth.
Anabella is my big sister, she is very adventurous and brave like mother. However, I'm the opposite, I just like to stay home, reading my books. But today I had some motivation to go outside with Anabella because I love the feeling of softness of the snow. So what could go wrong?
I didn't say anything and got up, I think Anabella knew it was a yes because she leapt to her feet and started running toward the hallway, I guess she is going to ask Mother if we can go outside. When I was finished getting dressed Anabella rushed back.
“ Mother said we can go outside!” Anabella was jumping for joy.
We went down stairs and put our boots and jackets on. Before we left we fed our dog Oma. We opened the door to a cold breeze slapping our faces. Then I saw Anabella picking up some snow.
“Ouch!” I yelled, glaring at Anabella, “ Oy I’m going to kill you!” I picked up a snowball, firing it at her.
In the middle of our snowball fight, we heard a roaring sound near the meadows. We both stopped in our tracks, then we heard another roar. I walked towards Anabella.
“ Lets go Anabella, I’m getting cold and I don’t want to be eaten by a wild animal when I’m so young.” I explained, trying to act brave.
“ Oh come on scaredy cat, I will protect you!” Anabella proudly announced.
She started to walk towards the meadows, I tried to say something to her but nothing came out, my legs automatically moved on their own, following her.
ROARRRRRRRRRR,
“There!” Anebella said, running to the trees.
This time I heard the roar again but it was louder and more ferocious.
What I saw next was the weirdest thing ever, a little girl with sloppy, greasy clothes on. At first, I wasn’t expecting this, I thought she was a little girl lost in the meadows. Until I got closer, seeing her clearly. She had a long scaled tail, big puffy ears, wings and gleaming scales on her body. Her sharp fangs looked like gleaming razor blades. Her wings started to move side to side, her tail whipping back and forth.
“ Hello I’m Anabella and this is my little brother Issac, we won’t hurt you.” Anabella explained, approaching closer to the girl.
“ Anabella be careful!” I uttered.
Anabella gave me a look, I was scared but I trusted Anabella, she knows how to defend herself, but I was still worried for our safety. The girl didn’t say anything but was violently shaking.
“ Mother won’t want us bringing a weird creature into our home, she might have fleas!” I exclaimed.
Anabella was desperate to bring her home, so I reluctantly agreed. We brought her back to our house and offered her some of Anabella’s clean clothes. Suddenly she started writing in one of my books, I reprimanded her and gave her a notebook she can use instead. Then she tapped on my shoulder, and handed me a ripped piece of paper.
It said that “My name is Claudia, the princess of Nilava Kingdom. One day when I was strolling through the woods I stumbled across an enchanted cave. I went inside out of curiosity, and ended up in this world.” The note also said that there will be a portal going back to her world tonight when the blue moon is shining the brightest. After Claudia was all clean and washed up, we went downstairs to get some food.
“ Oh is that your new friend?” Mother asked as she walking downstairs.
Luckily for us, she is blind as a bat without her glasses.
“ Yeah, this is Claudia.” I said, stuffing food in my mouth. “She can't speak English but she can write really well for a 7 year old.”
Claudia wrote something down on a piece of paper, saying “for your information, I am 160 years old and hello Mrs. Lavender.” She waved and started devouring her steak. Then Oma pranced over to my legs, giving me the puppy face, she is like a baby crying for food even though she already had her dinner. Claudia started to growl at the poor dog. I guess in her world dogs and her kind aren’t on good terms.
It was now dawn, Claudia wrote something, “the portal will open soon, we should go to the meadows and get ready.” We immediately went to the meadows. I looked up and saw the shimmering blue moonlight filling the abyss of the dark night sky. The blue moon only happens once every 30 years, so I hope Claudia will be able to go home safely.
Suddenly we saw a light coming from one of the trees, which served as the portal to Claudia’s world. She gave us another piece of paper. It said, “ Dear sister and brother, thank you for bringing me in and taking care of me, this is goodbye for now. Sincerely, Claudia Logard.” I looked up seeings Claudia spreading her elegant sapphire wings. She waved and turned, walking into the portal. Then she disappeared, I hope one day we will see each other again one day.
The end...for now.
