"People. **** them. **** mankind. This is what killed me, or what I thought killed me; if they did why would I be taking this time to even be here, Doc."
"You have no choice, sir. Please, what's your name?"
"Like hell, I'm telling you! Just let me leave."
"I'm sorry, you can't. Just tell me your name sir."
"Why?"
"Well, because you came here so badly beat, you were explicitly telling them to let you dissipate. Now don't look so flummoxed."
"I don't remember shit! So of course I'm going to be flummoxed."
"You have no need to get an attitude, sir."
"Bitch, I was beat to an inch of my god damn life! While your sitting on your ***, asking for my name, when you, a police officer, have reports, while I'm in the hospital!"
Doc breaths heavily. "Calm down, sir. We still need your name."
"Madachi Yuzami, of the Shinagoki-Yumachi clan."
"That's a surprise." Doc says with a little laugh.
"Yeah, I'm the weakest mother fucker ever, and what clan are you from?"
"Well, I came from the Ditachi clan."
"And what's Doc short for?"
"Dochuzami."
"I can see why you choose to go by Doc." I say.
"If you think I'm going to let you leave just because you're 'nice' to me, fucking forget it." Doc says as he gets out of his leather arm chair. "I'll be taking my leave now, Madachi. You have to get some rest. I'll have an officer posted up outside."
"Haha! Fine I won't leave." I said sarcastically with a small smirk.
"It's not that, it's something about the reports we got." he said with a very disturbed facile expression.
"What is it about the people who put me in here?" I asked, more so to know if I need to climb out the damn window tonight.
"Their called, The Wolves. Their extremely difficult to find, let alone arrest. They run with this clan, not a family clan like our own clans, Madachi, more so an organization. They're called, Subsete Ni Shi."
"What kind of stupid name is, 'Death To All'?" I said wanting to laugh.
"I wouldn't laugh at them, they're three times deadlier than the Yakuza." Doc said with tension in his throat.
"Shit. Then you definitely need to let me leave!" I exclaimed, also thinking 'Yeah I'm totally getting my *** out of here through the window. **** this shit!'
"I can't do that and don't even try to get out the window, we booby trapped it." Doc said with a big grin.
"What does it do?" I ask as I have this sinking sensation in my gut.
"It sends fifty thousand volts through your body." Doc says with such clarity it seems like it's the apotheosis of his day.
"Agh!" I choke in shock.'Well shit! There goes my escape literally out the window!'
"Yes, now get some sleep. I'll be back tomorrow, Madachi." Doc said with a grin as he walked out and softly closing the door behind himself.
After that I turned to the television to see what's going on. I'm expecting something about me being on it since I only arrived here at the hospital three days ago, but nothing! It was like my beat down never even occurred. Which is strange because the news always gets stories about gang beat downs and things like that; however I'm afraid these police officers payed the news to keep quit, for the Wolves may be looking. As I continue to flip through the news I suddenly get drowsy and then the next thing I know.......
Black. That's all my eyes see and my ears hear nothing. No! That's not right because in the distance I hear, Click click click click. The steady pulse of experience dress shoes on the marble floor. My heart rate begins to speed up and grow with such pounding I can barely hear the the foot steps outside walking ever so closer to my room. 'Please, dear god don't let them hear my heart. I really don't want to die!'
Crack!
Thump!
"Puny human!" said a masculine voice muffled by the door.
"Shut the hell up you fucking muscle head! We need Madachi, he can't escape through the fucking window!" said a high pitched, scrawny voice also muffled by the door.
'****! I can't leave! What do I do, what do I do!'
The sound of the door is heard as it opens, sending an icy chill down my stiff spine. My eyes stiffly shut to hide the fact that I'm awake.
Click. Click.
'Why the hell is there only one set when I heard two voices?'
Click. Click.
'This doesn't make sense.'
Click. Click.
'Is the scrawny asswhole a cop? And why did the feet stop? I hear the opening of something with a zipper but it's a small one, not like a coat.'
Tink tink.
'What the hell it sounds like the guys hitting a needle tip! Shit that's not good, it could be any number of things! Poison, sleeping agents, this isn't good I still have my IV in!'
"Goodnight Madachi, see your *** in a few." said the masculine voice before I hit the deck.
"Waky waky!" came the high pitched voice as before. The faint but stinging sensation of him slapping me awake.
"Mmmhhhmmm"
"Oh, he finally responded!" Said the high pitched voice through the sleepy, fuzzy, swirling feeling in my head.
"That feeling you have, it may go away in a bit, but we need you to be like this for awhile while we do something, Madachi. Hey! Takeshita go get the tools."
"Got it boss." said Takeshita as he leaves through an unseen door to my right.
"Who are you guys, and what do you want with me?" I said still fuzzy and tired.
"Oh, come on! Didn't that cop, Doc, tell your \*\*\* about us?" said the pitchy voice.
"Wait. Your telling me that you and this, Takeshita, are the wolves?" I said trying desperately to look out my eyes to see anything, but with the bright white lights in my face burn my eyes and give me a migraine.
"Hahaha! The Doc did tell you then!" laughed the pitchy voice. Just then Takeshita comes back into the room shutting the door behind himself.
"Here you go, Derikagi." Said Takeshita setting something big and made of metal on a table not too far in front of me by the sound of it.
"Now Madachi, I would say that this wouldn't hurt at all, but that would be a lie! Hahahaha!" laughed Derikagi grabbing what ever was set on the table.
Bang! The one single gun shot rang out through my head and my surroundings.
Bang! The second was just like the first one but muffled by the ringing in my ears.
I'm expecting to be dead by now to feel something, anything to tell myself I'm dead. To my surprise, I receive nothing. No pain and no warm, sticky substance running down my body. I try looking out my eyes again only to see.... Red. It was all over. I began to scream but nothing came out, it was like those dreams where you are running from something and trying to yell out but all you hear is this strange noise. That's all I hear now. I'm seeing two lifeless bodies with blood spreading over the the floor. Each one with a single hole through there heads. I continue to cry out trying desperately to be heard, to call out to the cold world around me. That strange noise is all that's coming out and I want it to leave, to be my own scream again.
'Please, god let someone me!'
"Madachi! Madachi! Your ok, it's me! It's me, Doc!" the faint words just barely piercing into my head.
"What! How the hell d-did you get here!" I screamed trying to hear myself over the ringing still playing in my ears.
"I was able to follow you with a tracker on your sock. I told the officer to put it there as soon as he knew you feel asleep. I'm just glad I got to you before they were able to take your sacred gear." Doc says with heavy breathing as if he ran here instead of driving.
"W-what the actual \*\*\*\* is a sacred gear?" I ask, beginning to feel the sleep agent coming off and the ringing disappearing.
"You are the last one to possess a gear and that's what Subsete Ni Shi want. Every person the Wolves have killed have possessed a gear." Doc says still panting hard.
"How do you know all this? I..." taking a quick look at the blood that pools even closer to my feet. My words catching in my throat. "...mean I'm not this special person! Just get me out these fucking chains, Doc! I want to go home!" I screamed trying desperately to force my chains to break, knowing that they won't.
"Madachi, please stay still. I'll get you out and bring you to my house, there I'll tell you everything you want to know." Doc says calmly, calming me down as he fumbles through Derikagi's shirt pockets. Obviously grossed out he has to fumble through the pockets of a dead man. He finally gets a hold on some keys that jingle as he walks over to me in my chair. He tries the first three keys to be failures, however the fourth key is the lucky one to set me free.
As Doc and I walked out the abandoned building, I noticed the entrance was set up to be a maze, each turn we take and each long dimly lit hallway had doors and traps. The sight of that blood still pools in my mind. To my surprise Doc noticed that I wasn't quite myself, blindly walking behind him. As we walked out into the blanket of night, there was a small layer of snow covering the ground. The soft steady crunching of our feet made me feel uneasy but tired.
'I hope no one is here looking at us as we pass! Those gunshots probably woke up every damn soul in this place.' I thought as my gut sank into the feeling of someone or something was really following us. Doc helped me into his nice black Subaru BRZ, the interior of the car had a nice leather and chrome dash board. The sliding sound of us sitting onto the leather seats sounded even so more distant in my mind then the shutting of the doors. As he pulled away with the heat on, the feeling of eyes on me grew but I kept pushing it out my mind, for I'm tired of all this weird shit happening with me.
'I swear I don't get any of this! I want to know everything about everything at this point! If I am what Doc says I am, what will that mean, and I'm sure I'll have to reevaluate my life!'
"Madachi, you ok? You look green." Doc said looking to the side at me. The soft hum of the car passing over the highway makes me feel even drowsier.
"Of course, I've been trying to make sense of all this, but it's killing my brain!" I say.
"I have no doubt about that. I'm terribly sorry, Madachi. Why don't we go to a bar, it's loud and I'm friends with the owner." Doc says cheerfully.
"Fine, but you're paying for it." I say roughly.
"I was planning on doing that." Doc said intensely watching the road.
We continued to sit in the car in silence. I'm still enjoying the soft purr of the car even with this uneasy feeling of someone following.
"Do you have seat warmers?" I asked shaking from the cold.
"Yes I do."
"Can you turn them on, my *** is cold!" the drizzle of a shiver passes over my spine again.
As my *** was getting warm, I began to think 'What if I am this special person? I mean I've always had this weird feeling of differentiation. It's not a long stretch once I really think about it.'
Once I began to fall asleep we arrived at the bar called One Treat, which is ransacked with people. Once Doc and I got to the door a woman with platinum hair burst out crying, I wanted to say something but I figured I might as well stay out of it. So Doc and I walked in without a second thought. The cold staring eyes of people watched us even more intensely than my gut feeling.
'Shit I still have my hospital clothes on' looking down at myself. Doc lead me to the private room he has from his friend. As Doc and I began to sit at our table, our waitress comes to get our orders. I look up and the breath is drawn out of my very lungs. She stunningly beautiful; with her red crimson hair falling perfectly over her shoulders and dazzling deep blue eyes that make you want to drown in. Her smile was bubbly and her red lipstick gleaming in the light, with her hair outlining a beautiful young woman. On her right shoulder lays a rusty colored kitten, sleeping safe and soundly as if this bar noise doesn't even effect it.
"Hello! My name is Haru. This kitty is Azumi, and we'll be your waitress for the night."
"Hey beautiful! I'd like sake, please."
"Same for me." the words soft and quiet as I spoke.
"I'll be right back with your drinks." Haru said walking off to the counter on the other end of the bar.
"Doc. Stop staring at her ***!" I grumbled out raising a fist.
"Come on! Don't tell me you don't find her body hot." Doc said leaning back against the booth.
"I do but I at least have some decency." I say. "So now tell me..."
"Here you boys go! Drink up and call me over if you need any more drinks." said Haru setting the drinks down in front of us.
"Thank you, Haru." I said.
"You're welcome." Haru said in response, and left closing the sliding door.
"Ok, now tell me, Doc. What are these sacred gears?"
"Well, there relics. They have different powers and different shapes. Your relic, what ever it is, is the most powerful. You could say that your relic could destroy the world in itself." Doc said taking a swig from his bottle.
"Ok, I get that but how do you know all this?" I asked holding my bottle, not really in the mood to drink.
"Because I was raised by monks who were supposed to protect the relics. I was trained to sense them and use them,in some cases." Doc said.
"How do you know which bodies have these gears?" I asked.
"They still have some of the power left by the gears."
"Well, when you were talking to me, you knew, didn't you."
"Yes."
"Well, how do you sense how powerful the gears are?" I ask.
"The monks taught me that as well." Doc said taking a big swig of his bottle.
"So I need to go talk to these monks. Where can I find them?" I asked.
"You're talking to the last one." Doc said depressingly.
"Oh. I'm sorry, I didn't know." I said.
"It's ok, but why don't we just drink and have fun." Doc said drinking more of his sake.
"I disagree." I said drinking some of my sake. "I'm some freak with some mystical power inside me. How do I use it? How do I control it? How do I..."
My words cut off by Doc's hand covering my mouth.
"Shut up for now! Damn. I'll help you tomorrow ok? Just drink for now."
As the night went on we became more drunk and probably closer as friends, but that isn't a problem for either of us. Haru eventually told us to pay and go home because we couldn't make proper sentences. I was the first to leave and I walked toward my apartment building. The snows coldness seeped through my clothes, the bag crinkling as I walked that held the clothes I had from the hospital. After a few minutes I make it to the building, but I'm freezing.
"Fuuuuuuck! I hate these damn stairs!" I say aloud to myself as I walk up two flights of stairs. On the third floor I walk to the third door on the right, apartment room 1998.
"Ah, I'm home." I say to my self with a chuckle.
As I begin to unlock my door to go into my apartment I hear a woman crying. I want to push it from my mind, for I hear this shit all the time but something was compelling me to see if she was ok. As soon as she a merged from the stairs my jaw dropped. Her dazzling platinum hair fell perfectly over her shoulders, her deep blue eyes were like the ocean. Her tight black shirt exposed her breasts and perfect curves. She was the definition of dazzling beauty. I began to think who would make such a beautiful woman cry. I pull my keys out the doorknob and walk over to to her. She notices me about half way to her.
"Oh I'm terribly sorry you have to hear this." she says still crying.
"It's ok, but are you doing ok? Oh, and by they way my name's Madachi. I live in 1998." I say looking into her deep blue eyes.
"No. I caught my boyfriend cheating on me with my best friend." she said, taking her right fist and slamming it into the door as hard as she can.
"Hey, hey. Don't beat yourself up!" I say grabbing her and pulling her into a hug. "Trust me there's assholes like him all over the world. Don't beat yourself up. It's not worth it." I whisper into her ear as she starts balling, and hugging me back. A few neighbors walk past giving me some dirty looks because of this beautiful girl crying in my arms or because I'm still in my hospital clothes.
"Thank you, Madachi. I really needed this hug, and my name is Brianna." she said into my shoulder, finally calming down.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Brianna." I say.
She stays hugging me for awhile longer, so I just continue to hold her tight. As she pulls away she asks if I'd be interested in talking inside her room. Me being me with my big *** heart, I say sure. She smiles and unlocked the door, going in first. As I walk in she tells me to make myself feel at home and asks if I'd like some tea.
"Sure, whatever you have is fine with me." I say politely.
"Would you like to go home and change first? You are still in those hospital clothes." said Brianna with a soft smile.
"Oh ****! Umm yes please, I'll be right back ok?" I say as I stumble a bit blindly back to my apartment.
The sound of her cute giggle fills my head with flouting butterflies. 'Damn she's so hot and sweet!'
Quickly I change out of the hospital clothes and put on a nice pair of black pants, an orange shirt, and my bright red sweater. Rushing over to my shoes, I slide on my hard wood floor, stabbing my pinky toe into my table.
"****! UUUUGGGGHHHHAHAHA!" Grabbing at my foot I hold it tightly. Hoping around in pain for a few seconds. Grunting as I put my black Van's on, I grab my keys, lock the door and go next door to Brianna's apartment.
'Ok Madachi, you got this bro! Play it cool, try not to **** this up and make her happy'
As I go to knock the door opens and she runs her face into my chest.
"Oops! Hehehe, s-sorry! I forgot to grab the mail, so please come in and have a seat. I will be right back." she said quietly while blushing.
"O-oh it's ok! You go do that and I'll have the tea poured by the time you get back ok?" blushing back to her as her own cute giggle and blush is contagious.
"Alright thank you so much!" she said running down the stairs and disappearing.
Walking inside I'm hit with a lot of bright pink walls, decorated with a lot of anime figures. Her purple couch sits against the left wall under three shelves, the opposite wall has a 60 inch television mounted to the wall with a floor to ceiling book case on both sides, to my surprise, full of books. The sound of the tea pot ready, I walk into her kitchen and remove it. Her tea glasses she has set out next to the stove are white Chinese porcelain.
"Jeez those must have been expensive!"
Pouring the water into the cups, I take the plates they rest upon and walk to the living room again.
"Ok I'm back handsome!" her sweet velvety voice melts me like butter as she walks to me, tossing the mail to the counter.
"Welcome home! Here have your tea." I say as I hand her one of the cups and plates.
"Why thank you!" she says with such a bright smile it makes the room feel and seem brighter somehow.
"You really love anime, don't you?" I ask taking a sip of my green tea.
"Hehe y-yeah I do." the flustered look on her face is seen quickly as she looks away to hide a bit.
"It's alright! I love anime too. So you could say we are two weebs in a pod." making her try to feel a bit more comfortable about herself.
The soft and adorable 'Yay' she replies with makes me smile. We sit on the couch and sip at the tea slowly.
For hours we talk about our favorite animes, how we thought they should have ended or what we wanted changed from them. By the time I have ran out of shows I begin to make jokes, some really good while others are just plain, downright horrible. Just trying anything and everything to make her smile, to distract her from her horrible day. However even my jokes run out and it falls silent for a few minutes. It's both awkward and uncomfortable for us, so I decide I'll tell her about my past few days. Leaving out the part of having a special thing inside of me and the two dead bodies. The look on her face contorts from worry, concern, and a quick glance of excitement as I tell it.
"... And now I'm here. These past 5 days feel like a dream. I swear. People beating my *** up to being kidnapped! I swear I'm going to need a therapist after this week is over." I finish with a faint, disappointed half smile.
"It's alright! I believe you are strong and caring! I mean yes you say you aren't strong but then how did you get here? We each are strong in our own ways, but together we are stronger. Each one person filling the hole of an other." she says comfortingly.
Looking up to her. "But what holes do I fill with people, hmm? I mean Doc saved me and God only knows who else was apart of it, so I think you are wrong." I say with a small shrug.
"You fill the hole of loneliness. You don't make me feel less than a human being and you've made me laugh and smile for hours! Yes some of your jokes are bad but still they managed to make me smile and feel special! You didn't make me feel like a slut like most guys do." she said playfully hitting my arm.
I take her words in for a few minutes as I think hard. Wondering if that's the case. Trying to find the answer in the past with my own friends and family. Seeing if it's not just the fact that they had no one better to go to, to quell their loneliness with.
"You know what? You're right! I do fill that void in people. Even if it is a fake relationship. I know all I should do now! I will get that therapist and then I'll get new friends!" I say with a new found conviction. The hope of having a new and better life seems more like the truth than me having this fucking dumb gear in my body.
"Good! That sounds like a good plan! I hope it works for you." she says with a bright and happy smile.
"Yeah it does." I respond with as I yawn. "I think I should go home and get some sleep, but everything will be ok. You can come next door when you want and I'll be happy to give you company." I yawn out again as I walk to the kitchen and set my dishes in the sink.
"Alright, have a good night and I'll see you around, handsome~." she says with a smile. The play on the word of handsome rings in my head as I nod and go to my own apartment. I changed to shorts and an old t-shirt and fall asleep happy.
