The alarm which she set at 5:30am started ringing (beep,beep,b....) she lazily opened her eyes and offed the alarm.

" ahssshh..., it's 5:30am already, seems like I only slept for 30 minutes."

she stood up and made her way to the toilet. she brushed her teeth, took a shower and came out after 20 minutes. she took her ironed school uniform which she hanged in the wardrobe and kept it on the bed.

" I can't believe it, am graduating from high school today. Today is the best day ever and the last day in school(giggles)." she said as she was putting on her clothes. she finished and stood infront of the mirror admiring her look. She quickly went out of her room and made her way to the living room.

Wei Wei's mother already made breakfast, and was waiting for Wei Wei to come down.

" good morning mom."

" morning my princess, did you sleep well?"

" no, I think I only slept for 20 minutes."

" look who's talking, I went to your room to check on you at night, but you were snoring.'

" (trying to cover her face), what's that smell?, it smells nice."

" i made noodle's."

" i love you mom, you're the best mom ever. You didn't forget about my graduation did you?"

" of cause I didn't, my princess."

" where's dad?"

" i think he's getting ready, quickly finish your food, the bus will be here any minute."

" yes mom, thank you."

Mrs.Tian went upstairs to check on Mr Feng. Wei Wei finished eating food and unknowingly started dozing off. She was awoken by the horn she heard, she quickly packed her bag and lunch.

"mom,dad am gone bye, see you at my graduation, I'll save a sit for you."she shouted.

**AT SCHOOL**

"wow Wei Wei you look beautiful."

(cling cling c....) the school bell suddenly rang, it's time for classes.

" the bell! seriously?, we're graduating today and we'll be having classes, that's not fair.'said Bai xou Wei Wei's friend."

"let's just go and see what's happening"

said Wei Wei.

they all went and sat down on their chairs. They waited for about 30 minutes but no one came in. they were distracted by the speaker above which said:

" congratulations seniors, we're wishing you best of luck as you go. and yes, my apologies it's just a prank, please proceed to the graduation hall with your gowns, thank you."

"(Bai xou slightly hit the table with her hand)I knew it, I knew it's a prank, yet I decided to dance to their toon."

(Wei Wei laughed).

" calm down, common let's go."

*AT WEI WEI'S HOUSE*

Mr Feng was having his breakfast in the morning، he turned around and saw Mrs tian who was cleaning the house.

" the house is quite, I guess Wei wei has gone to school?"

" yes she did, she's very excited to go to school, she'll be graduating today. Are you going?"

" no , I have a lot of work today at the office, I never wanted her to go to school anyway" (he said angrily).

The graduation ceremony started, the graduates were seated on one side and the parents and visitors were seated on the other. Wei Wei was looking at the audience, trying to spot her parents. she finally spotted her mother who raised her hand towards Wei Wei's direction waving. The principal Mr choi began speaking:

This school opened in the year 1898, it started with five males and two female students. Today we have one hundred and eight students in the school comprising of sixteen female students and the rest are male.The principal finished his statement, and prize were given to the best students in the school and the pioneers also received a prize.since the graduation was over, people started taking photos with their family members.

" mom"

" my darling, am so proud of you."

" where is dad?"

" he....he-e-e he went for work."

" I know you're lying to me.i know that dad never wanted me to go to school, he always says that girls who go to school people regard them as **********'s and a girl belongs in the kitchen."

Wei Wei's mother laughed

" you just sounded like your father."

" mom let's take a picture, to my happiness, I mean our happiness."

" to happiness."

click,click. They took a picture and collected it from the camera-man.

Wei Wei bid goodbye to her friends and went away with her mother.

" mom,let's not take a carriage, why don't we trek back home?, it will be fun."

" okay let's do that. Wei Wei look( pointing at an ice juice seller) would you like some?"

" no mom am okay."

" stop thinking that I don't have money,just take one.'

" will you also pick one?"

" yes my dear i will."

they both picked their ice juice and kept on walking.

" mom I've never asked you this but why did you put me in school?"

" I was about your age, probably older than you, I got married to your father and I had you. my friend sent me a letter but I couldn't read it, then I saw a woman, that woman translated it for me, and she earned my respect, since then I said my child would read no matter what."

" how did you get dad to agree with putting me to school?"

" I didn't, my dad was. your grandpa went straight to your dad and confronted him."

" and dad said yes?"

" of cause."

They kept talking and they finally reached the house. Wei Wei took her bath and went to the kitchen to help her mother. They finally finished everything and was sitting in the living room, waiting for Mr Feng to arrive.

Mr Feng came back at 5:48 pm.

" welcome back."

" mhmm."

" your food is in the living room."

" dad welcome back." said Wei Wei.

" aha how was school?"

" it was great, I won many prizes."

" huh! look at your daughter now? she won many prizes, and she's telling me with confidence.tell me one thing my dear, is that how you'll behave in your husband's house?"

he turned and looked at Wei Wei's mother,

"you have just one child and you can't teach her manners!, well listen carefully , am getting Wei Wei married to my boss son and that's final."

she felt a shock waving through her body as her dad mentioned about marriage.

" appa, I do not consent to this marriage". she didn't know she uttered the word. The glare her father gave her made her realize what she said.

" you have no other choice."he said.

Wei Wei angrily left the living room and went to her room.

" you see, can you see what she's learning from that so called school?, a woman is not supposed to talk balk at her husband, her family relation or anyone. Now tell me, is this what she'll do when she's married?" he said angrily.

"am sorry" that was all Mrs tian could say.

" I don't even know what's your use" he said as he stood up took his brief case and turned around to leave.

" excuse me?, you don't know my use anymore?"

he was so surprised as of what Mrs tian said. It's been 21 years since they got married and she has never talked back at him, she usually nods when he talks or says yes or no when the situation is crucial. He turned as saw Mrs tian standing furiously.

" what did you say?"

" you heard what I said, do you want me to repeat myself again?"

" Tian...."

" How can you make such a crucial decision without telling me?, I deserve the right to know."

" must I ask for your permission before doing something for my daughter?"

" so now she's your daughter?, (giggles) it seems like you've forgotten about what happened 18 years ago, do you want me to remind you. You forced me to do a scan when I was pregnant and it turned out that it was a girl not a boy, and you were not happy with the condition so you told me to abort the pregnancy, didn't you?"

" why are you bringing this up, it's all in the past....."

she quickly cut's him off.

" you're asking me why?, I never had a miscarriage nor did I skip my period till date, if I didn't run away that day, I would live to regret it. You clearly said you have nothing to do with her that day, so stick to that."

" tian... hear me out once......"

she left the living room and headed back to the room. he followed her with his eyes as she walked pass him and went to her room, he couldn't figure out what just happened.

Mr Feng , was very tired and hungry but couldn't bring himself to eat, he kept thinking about the discussion he heard with his wife. he took his bath and went to Mrs tian's room. He kept knocking on the door but there was no answer,he slowly opened the door and saw Mrs tian sleeping, he gently closed it and left for his room.

** AT ZHANG HUI'S HOUSE**
