I was playing an otome game for the first time and... I was disappointed, really!
I mean, I was hoping to get a glimpse of the 'oh so trendy' villainess, but seriously, what the heck!
There was none! Aren't otome games supposed to have them? I mean they're quite the trademark in the reincarnation novels I've been reading!
And don't get me started on the capture targets! They're sooo lame!
I mean, it's like trying really hard to please someone, but I didn't sign up to be an ass-licker, I wanted to see a fantasy romance that doesn't happen, like ever in real life! But I've got to give it credit for something that doesn't happen in real life, and that is, me pleasing a guy...
I really love the villainess reincarnation program that occurs in otome game novels, so clearly it was a letdown. Like my boyfriend...
My parents are so eager to see me get out of the house that they actually set me up with their friend's son. But we don't have anything in common. We agreed to pretend that we're dating so that our parents don't force another inconvenient thing on us.
I love anime, manga and novels, while all he cares about is that boring thing called social media. I acknowledge the fact that we're both on our phones all day long, but anime is justice!
And the most infuriating thing is that he says that anime is for kids!
How could I ever forgive such a statement!
At least we can peacefully watch what we love while our parents don't disturb us.
What pisses me off is that I actually miss the time we aren't together. I guess human relations are indispensable to a social being like me, no matter how hard I try to deny it.
Just lying on the same couch opposed to each other was pleasant, I guess?
Anyway, as I was playing the game, I realised there was no villainess. The game was called 'My only love', but apparently, you could have a harem ending besides the friends ending, like how ironic!
There was a girl that was the fiancé of the main capture target though. She was so pitiful. Her own family got rid of her through this marriage, as she was useless, possessing no magical powers and not able to succeed the throne. They made use of the engagement to make ties with that country's royal family. The crown prince, he wasn't pleased with his fiancé. Even if she was the first princess of her respective country, she basically had no worth other than her title.
Well, as I was playing the game, no, I didn't die and reincarnate. What actually happened was, that I went to the store to buy some chips, when truck-sama, no, I didn't die and reincarnate. What eventually happened was that my boyfriend came on our usual date when I returned home and he turned out to be yandere, no, I didn't die and reincarnate, I actually accidentally touched his phone, so he overreacted. What did get me in the end is that I choked on some chips, I died and reincarnated.
Shit! I didn't get to delete my watch history!
As I was contemplating how stupid my death was, think about it, usually when people are sent to reincarnate, they go out with a bang, literally.
My mind was kind of fuzzy, and also crowded by the many worries of somebody reading my diary with my deepest darkest secrets, for example, actually liking my fake boyfriend.
And imagine death by choking while near your crush. Totally embarrassing!
I bet I looked fugly, pardon my language.
In my oblivious state of derailing from the actual pressing matter, like my death, darkness suddenly turned into light as I vaguely heard the following baffling conversation that made me question the reason of my new-found existence.
“Why? Why did I have to birth a child!?”
A woman started sobbing and it was disturbing thinking that she was my mother.
“Now get a hold of yourself! In your line of work it isn't even surprising. It would be a matter of time not a matter of why!”
A man's disgust resounded in his response.
That disgust was redirected at me as I slowly opened my eyes and took a glance at the sharp gaze inflicted upon my very being. The woman had a wild beauty as her pink eyes glistened in hatred and her pinkish light purple hair was slightly unkempt.
Although bothered by her unhealthy feelings for a newborn child, her beauty had stunned me silly. From the conversation I think I got what kind of business she's into, and it doesn't surprise me of the cold reception. Life is unfair like that.
“You should name her! I need to report the birth to the city lord for the documents. You should receive them of course, not tax exempted!”
The man was impatient to leave, while the last remark certainly ticked off my mother who announced my name unceremoniously.
“Ann, a bastard child doesn't need a last name!”
Her tone was stingy, but her eyes were mysteriously showing sorrow.
That was unexpected.
What surprised me was that after the man left, which I only found by hearing the door close, my mother collapsed in pain and huffed tiredly while her breathing steadied only after a couple of minutes.
Poor woman, she probably has no one in this world to take care of her.
She turned to look with moistened eyes at me after finally calming down.
That lifeless gaze terrified me, but although what happened till now could be considered an ordeal, I haven't cried at all.
Maybe that caused the woman to focus at me questioning and led her to poke my cheek lightly as if to see if I would respond. I blinked and thought that this situation is ridiculously amusing.
The young woman probably doesn't know a thing about raising a child, and her action was, from my point of view, cute.
As she desperately tried to take care of me these few months of my new life, made me question if she just looks like a villain and when it comes to something involving me, she can't help but lose her cold demeanour and look just plainly silly.
The small cramped room that was furnished with only a narrow bed enough to fit a person was strangely enough as long as I had my mom there to be with me.
She was away for quite a good part of the day, which should make her a bad mother, but I just can't get to hate her for that as it is the only way for her to survive. Well, it is alright since it's me and I can manage for a period of time.
Life wasn't that bad and I finally turned 1 year old.
My mother's name was Risa, as I finally found out when a messenger came looking for her at the door to hand a letter over. I didn't find out what was written, but my mother looked expectant at it, while also wary.
I didn't bother to find out, as I was more concerned about the fact that my mother was lovingly playing with me. What a tsundere though.
She still tries to convince herself that she hates the fact that I was born sometimes. She sighs when she can't help herself to hug me tightly as if I'm the only thing she has.
My first word was mommy, which shocked my mother a bit, since she didn't know how to react. She clumsily patted my head as a new found pride took her over.
By that time I also managed to stand, because I didn't take any chances with this body. Walking was a matter of time and by the time I was 2, I could speak without impediments while running without falling over invisible obstacles.
It was also more fun since mother finally took me out for a stroll. She was reluctant about it, because she tends to be overprotective. She took me to her new workplace, apparently she got a job at a bakery one year ago.
The owner was a sweet granny that most probably took pity of my mother. Not anybody could accept someone with that type of background.
My mother worked hard so I was happy she managed to put such a smile every day. Granny was a bit like any grandmother would be. She spoiled me rotten.
Granny was lonely since she didn't have children and her husband died shortly after marriage since he was an adventurer. She decided to adopt my mom by the time I was 3, my mother was an orphan so she didn't have any family either.
We moved in her house and it was very spacious. The room we had was at least six times larger and the house was surrounded by a lovely flowery smell while it felt extremely cosy. The structure was made out of wood mainly. It looked a bit rustic.
Well, after a few strolls around town, I managed to figure out that the place I reincarnated to was definitely a fantasy world, since there were elves and beastmen. The country was named Endras which reminded me of something, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
When I finally saw myself in a mirror, I saw that I had pink hair and pink eyes. I wasn't surprised since I look at my mother every day. And colours like that are common here.
There was something like a kindergarten and my granny decided to send me there to spend time with other children my age since I was already at an age perfect for learning and socializing.
Our teacher/caretaker was a grumpy lady in her 30's. Her hair was black and her strict grey eyes watched us like a hawk. I appreciate responsible personnel, but it was a bit scary when she got angry. She took care of about over 20 children.
I mostly just drew during my 5 hour stay, or read children books to the others. I did play tag and hide and seek, it was pretty fun.
I'm wondering if I am enjoying being a kid a bit too much, hehe.
