"when I was a kid I used to be afraid of ghost, but then I realised that people were more scarier" She whispered to herself.

10 years ago... 

She entered the house after school with a bag of gifts from her friends as it was her birthday. She went straight to the kitchen and found a note on the fridge saying-

"I'm going to the market to buy vegetables and snacks for today, See you darling. 

Mom." 

After reading she tossed the note in the dustbin, opened the fridge found some coke and left over pizza, and snuggled in the sofa with her favourite show running on the tv. After a hour or so the bell rang, She opened the door to see her mother with lots of shopping bags. A lady in her forties, She had a pale skin but her features were well defined, long hair, black eyes and a motherly smile radiating from her face.

"The note said that you went for grocery shopping, then what's with all these dresses and shoes and snacks?" She asked while helping her mother with the bags. 

"It's you're birthday sweetheart. How can we not celebrate it?" she said with cheerful voice, 

"Oh god mom, I'm not a child now. I am already 16, you know.. plus dad will come home tomorrow, so what's the point of all these, and I've celebrated my birthday with my friends.

But.. since you are trying so hard.... lets do it." She said trying to keep a cool image while her mind was really excited. Around 7 they cut the cake, ate snacks and then her mother grabbed a bag and handed it over. She peeked inside the bag to find a jewellery box, when she opened it, she saw a beautiful gold ring. She was really mesmerized by it, 

"So how's it?" 

"It's so beautiful, perfect. Thank you so much mum, you're the best" she exclaimed with joy and hugged her mother tightly. 

"don't forget to thank dad. He selected it with me, and these bags are also for you, you'll love these." 

She handed her rest of the bags which contained a dress, a pair of heels and and a beautiful necklace. 

"I really love you both, it's the best day of my life, thank you so much mum." She replied with teary eyes. 

"aww sweetheart, we love you too. I'm really happy that you liked it. I've bought your favourite fish and chips and chocolate pancakes with cookie and cream ice cream. Let's celebrate, happy birthday my beloved daughter." she replied with a happy and satisfied face. After that they ate the food.

After eating they were watching her mom's favourite movie with popcorn and cold drinks. She went to the washroom and then the bell rang, she thought dad decided to give her a surprise when something broke, she was about to go when her mother eyed her to hide quickly, so she hid under the bed. 

"Why are you here?" Her mother shouted, 

"well you know umm... I also don't know, maybe you attracted me or your beauty.." he said touching her face and slowly brushing it, she shoved his hand with force. 

"stay away from me and get out of here," She exclaimed.

"hmm let's see... Should I go. should I not go. should I go. should I not...." that's when she picked up a vase to hit him but he shoved her on the wall, she fell like a fallen leave.

"please don't.." she whispered and when he turned, she eyed adira to not react at anything. Seeing her mother was bleeding from the head, adira was so shocked and scared, her hand covering her mouth, tears rolling down her cheeks. She wanted to stand and run to help her, but her body was not listening to her command, she watched quietly as he disappeared somewhere when she slipped out and slowly grabbed her mother's phone which fell when she tried to attack him and hid again when she heard footsteps. And then she saw a knife in that hand. Her eyes widened and shiver ran down her spine. With her frail and shaking hands she dialled police helpline number, the call was connected but she couldn't say anything, she watched as that man grabbed her mother's hair then took her to their parents room, the phone could receive the crying and begging..

"Mirror Mirror on the wall, whose the prettiest of them all.." She heard that man saying with a low and deep voice.

"It's not me please let me go." Her mom shouted.

"Wrong answer." That's all she heard followed by a shrilling scream piercing though the air and then silence.

Adira let out a whimper when she heard,

"peekaboo little kitty." And a hand grabbed her..
