I am running down the street full speed away from the terrors that are chasing me. Suddenly, the world erupts with fire and smoke and turns into darkness. I feel myself falling, further and further from the dreams that haunt me. I awake to the sound of a gong going BING BONG, BING BONG. My head shoots up like a rocket. “It’s graduation day and I’m late again, but this time for something different!” I get ready and rush down the stairs headfirst into an awaiting mother. “Hurry up Peter.” she says with practically no patience. “Again and again, time after time you surprise me with how late you are. Father is already there and he has met up with Sam. Now, remember your brother hasn’t seen you in some time so he may be a bit excited. Oh, and your friends, Ben and Harry are waiting outside for you.” “Okay mom,” I exclaim as I walk to the door. Suddenly, a wall of earth erupts in front of me. “Don’t forget your spatial ring, I put new elemental crystals in it.” “Right,” I say as I put it on and walk out the door. I see Ben leaning on our garden fence, while Harry inspects our magnificent earth crystal tree. “We have been here forever,” Ben moans as he gets up from the fence. “Yes,” Harry agrees, “Why do you have to take so long every day?” “Whatever,” I say as we walk away from my house, “What element do you guys want? I want wind.” “Well, I want water, earth or sound.” Harry says. “Well, we know you won’t get one of them,” Ben says thoughtfully. “Which one?” Asks Harry.

“Let’s just say your guitar playing sounds like a screeching cat.” Ben says as we laugh our heads off. We round the corner to the graduation ceremony and I spot my dad in the crowd as we go behind the stage. “Boo!” Says a man dressed in rags jumps from behind the wall. “Aghhh!!!” We scream until I realise who it is. “Sam, that wasn’t funny.” I say to him. “Well, it was for me,” He says as he pulls off his rags to reveal the academy’s robes. Sam is a level-two astral element master. “Now you three had better get ready, as it’s about to start,” he shouts over the loud speakers blaring the acadamy’s school song. We line up behind the other ten year olds about to get their elements. I am behind a fair haired girl. She turns around to greet me and in that instant I find the first love of my life. Perfect facial features, long and beautiful hair, blue, silky eyes and that perky chest. “Hello,” she says to me as I stare into her eyes. “My name is Rose, Rose Williams, and yours is...? “P-Peter, my name is Peter Rogers.” I hear a shushing noise coming from my brother as the first person hops on stage. I hear a spinning noise, and it stops as fast as it started. “Plant element.” I hear as the young girl hops off stage, grinning from ear to ear.

The next person up on stage was a young boy. I heard the same spinning noise, and like last time it stopped almost instantly. “Iron dragon element.” The crowd gasped as the boy jumped off stage, smirking at the rest of us. Rose whispered into my hear “He is lucky, that is one of the rarest elements!” Oh, right I have to explain to you all the elements. Each one has a rank. Rank 1 is the best while Rank 3 is the worst. Iron dragon is Rank 1 and plant is Rank 3. Most of rank 1 is a mixture of other elements, like iron dragon is a mixture of metal and fire. Each element has 4 ranks with 5 levels in each one. From worst rank to best rank, they are: student, intermediate, master and grandmaster. Now someone else is on stage. “Sound element.” So far 10 have gone including the first 2. All the elements have been Rank 2 or 3 except for the iron dragon boy. Now Rose is up. There is the spinning noise, then silence. “Water king element.” Silence. More silence. Water king is a Rank 0 element, even better than iron dragon. Let me explain. Water is a Rank 1 element. Each element has a king version of it, making it rank up 1. The last king element was decades ago, and he was the creator of Riol element academy. It is my turn up. I hop on the stage and see a huge lottery wheel with a hand mark in the center. I place my hand on it and a blue marker appears. The wheel starts spinning and stops. 2 words appear. “King Void element.” Says a voice coming from the wheel. I am shocked. Void element is as rare, if not rarer than a king element. Normal void element is Rank 0, and the last person who had it was the first city lord. King void element was the element of Rank legend, even higher than Rank 0. The only other person to have it was 1 of the realm lords. I hop off stage and watch Ben jump on it. He puts his hand on the wheel and it spins. “King martial arts element.” Murmurs swept through the crowd. I have never heard of that element. Harry climbs onto the stage and Ben walks off. Harry’s hand goes on the wheel, and it spins. “King life and death element.” A voice comes over the loud speaker. “We just searched that element up on the royal library data base, and it was the element of 1 of the 3 realm lords, alongside the king void element and the king martial arts element. After Harry 28 more people came up, until we were all finished. The crowd started leaving and the students gathered around my brother. “Great job everyone, we will be heading to the academy in 10 minutes, so say goodbye to your family and friends.” I went to say good bye to my dad, but couldn’t find him. He must have already left. After 10 minutes had passed we all went back to Sam. He activated a teleporter, and we left to the academy.

When we arrived at the academy, my jaw dropped to the floor. It was a grand building, black on one side, white on the other. In the middle was a symbol of a moon and a sun. In the very middle was a weird circle divided into three slots. From here he could barely make out a skeleton with skin on one side, absolute black, and a man in a fighting pose. “These are our elements, and the same elements as the realm lords.” He thought to himself. The kid that got Iron dragon came up to me and said “ha ha ha, you are so unlucky, your element is cursed. It is the same with your friends. In the academy prophecy it mentions the owners of your element dying, ha ha ha.” He walked away and Ruby, Ben and Harry came up to me, “Hurry up Peter,” Harry said,”We are falling behind.” “I can’t believe how lucky we are!” Ruby squealed as we walked up the steps to the massive wooden doors. My brother opened them and announced,”Welcome to Riol!” He shouted as a huge group of people filled the entrance. “Here you will have battle, maths, English and element classes!”The people around started talking to us. I heard snippets like “I heard you...rarest elements... maybe those 4 will... I feel sorry for them...I hope they like...Yeah, it was... last year...didn’t survive.” We moved down the huge hallway and found a black hole covering the floor. A boy stepped on it and started falling. “Charlie, no teasing the newbies.” My brother said as a young boy hopped off a roof beam. The boy sighed and snapped his finger and the falling child grew in size and started retching. “Sam, does that mean I have to disarm the 22 flaming crossbows, close the invisible trapdoor and let the bisons run loose outside instead of in the hallway?” “Don’t worry kids, he’s just joking...I think. This is Charlie, he is a level-1 master of the illusions element.” A kid among pushed forwards, squealing with delight. It was a young girl and she said as she shook all over: “I have the illusion element to!” “That’s great, you will be enjoying element lessons with me on the 9th day of the week.” Today was the 7th day. Sam lead us further down the hallway as Charlie waved us goodbye. We reached a door called dorms and Sam pushed it open. On the left were numbers 1-9 and on the right were numbers 10-20. My brother pushed open the 20 door and inside was more doors. “This place is like a maze.” Harry whispered to me. Each of these doors were labeled 20.1-20.9. “These will be your rooms.” Sam explained to us as he pushed open door number 20.1. “Your year level has 41 people in it, and each room has 6 beds, so there will be 2 rooms spare. You may choose whoever you want to be in your room, even if they are of the opposite gender.” I felt a hand on my back and I was being pulled away. I abruptly stopped and I saw Ben’s face looming over mine and Harry’s. “We stick together.” Ben said and he let us go. My brother started speaking again, “If you don’t have enough people in your cabin then I will pick some for you.” The class split up into groups of 6, leaving me, Ben and Harry on 1 side and Rose, the girl who got the Rank 3 plant and another girl who I think got Rank 2 technology. This techno girl was playing a computer device. “Well, It seems we have our groups!” My brother said, “Now choose your rooms and get unpacked.” The rest of us looked at him in confusion. “Oh, that’s right, I forgot to tell you that anything you want from home will instantly appear on your bed. Now get moving, go, go, Go!!!” We all rushed to a random room with our groups. My group found ourselves in room 20.5. “And remember, dinner is in 1 hour!” He shouted as we all heard a door slam. “Well,” Rose said, “let’s get unpacked!”
