Prologue
All pair of eyes were fixed on the stage blinklessly. The round stage which also a time machine was veiled by a blue light.
Everybody in the room that had the size of a hangar looked worried waiting for the arrival of the search party.
Soon enough came some lights which started as flashes but ended iluminating the stage. All of a sudden like one of those David Copperfield show, appeared several people on the stage.
Yet it brought dissapointment to the people in the room waiting in their lab coat, for the one guy they had been waiting for was not among them. They all wondered how Mr. Reign would react.
Mr. Reign himself, standing up front among the scientists needed some time to came back to reality.
Slowly he looked down, shatered in the age so old he needed a walking stick by his left hand.
"The search party must return tomorrow to bring my grandson back.", He commanded.
"One more thing...", he added as he tapped his stick to the ground, " My grandson's dissapearence to the past must never leave this room!"
"If this ever go public my investment in this time travelling technology won't be the only thing will be lost, but each and everyone of your reputation will be ruined. This failure to find my grandson lost in Osiris period will be all the world remember."
"Who, then, would even consider time travel as a recreation!? " []
Thousands of people were at the Bastille prison. On the entrance of the Bastille prison, villagers were rebelling. Riot erupted after castles and monastries were raided and burnt. The Bastille fortress was burnt by fire so great, black smokes escaped high from the top of towers and the buildings. A man stood on a chair and provoked the rebels with an oration. He was cheered in furiously patriotistic yells that echoed to the sky.
"Vive La Nation!" Screamed a farmer waving a cane in his right hand. France flag was tied at the end of that cane.
"En Avant!" Raved another man commanding everybody to moved toward the Bastille prison gate. This one had a spear with him while many others even brought fire arms with them.
"The reason why people are attacking the Bastille prison is because the King mistreated them. The people revolt to destroy the king as a symbol of power, people want the political and community leaders to be fred from this prison of Bastille." Monsieur Duran explained.
Even with Monsieur Duran naration Elenore, Austin, Eliot, Kirana and Geoffry couldn't hide their shock witnessing the attack.
The people gets even more furious discovering the plan to gather 20.000 royal troops to dismiss National Council and counter the revolution. Monsieur Duran continued among the commotion.
"The National Guard who initially never intend to shed their fellow countrymen's blood in the end decided to conduct a more repressive approach against the people." said Monsieur Duran. "In the end like most protests, a riot is inevitable."
And among the National Guard some of the King's followers tried to drew sympathy from the people.
"Vive, La cocarde noire!"
They shouted cheerfully.
A female activist praised the King
"A Versailles! Ramenons Le Roi!"
These claims of course were the opposite of how the people felt who had fed up with the abuses from the monarchy. The resistance move escalated when an arriving rioters arrived with a wax statue.
"Je vous le prete! Ne le faites pas fonder!" Exclaimed a guy in a royal dress. He stormed out from the wax factory and hailed the protesters to stayed united in the course.
"Just like all officials arriving at Paris, to the Bastille... here is Monsieur Mirabeau, the people's prince, joining them." Monsieur Duran explain when he noticed some Royal Family were among the peasants.
"Bring him back.... Necker!" Exclaimed the peasant that hold the wax statue
The half body wax statue was carried by three people while dozens followed behind; men, women and children.
"Vive Necker!" again the peasant yelled followed by the rest.
"Vive La Nation!" others chimed in.
Hot air blew the dust stomped by hundreds of pair of feet that surrounded the castle
Woried the two got caught in the riot Kirana pulled Eliot and Geoffry out od the mob's way
But it was too late, the mob is too close , it just barged right through their body reminding the boys where they were at the moment.
"Who's that statue was?" Geoff asked curiously why those peasant wanted him back.
"That was Jacques Necker, the treasury. Necker was removed from his position for siding with the people." Monsieur Duran explained.
The mob burned down the Bastile Prison. The prison guards were pushed back by the riot.
"Arretez Ces Harpies!" Ordered the prisoner warden to the National Guard commander to secure the Bastile Castle from the mob.
"Do you want to see what happens next? We need to get closer." Offered Monsieur Duran.
"But do not cross the yellow light!"
"In this part we will witness the warden, Marquis de Launay and 8 of the guards killed by the mob. He was decapitated and they stick his head on a stake to be paraded all over the town."
During this period , around 16.000 to 40.000 French people were dead. Horibble!, said Monsieur Duran.
"CEST LA GRANDE PEUR!" Eleonore objected out of fear, "Lets just skip this part!"
The part they were trying to avoid happened anyway.
The riot reached its climax.
"We have to end this riot!" The command of national guard decided.
... Trooopers!
The National Guard troopers who initially stood by the road side, started to aim their bayonet toward the rioters. But the peasants kept charging forward courageously.
"Ce Serait Un Massacre!" Austin screamed begging to stop viewing the slaughter about to begin. []
The horrific scene faded as the landscape of Bastille prison superimposed by the view of the space where the prison once established.
"Sorry! Time is up," claimed Monsieur Duran to the youngsters
The kids got their wish after all as the horrifying scene they were about to witness was stopped.
All out of words still very much in shocked by the view of Bastille Castle siege.
The bloodshed upon Bastille prison was vanished replaced by a new view. They found themselves standing on a street filled with poles of dimming lights.
While some yellow lines stayed apparently bright, which separated the inside and the outside of the tourist site
The line kept the tourists from running into walls, stuff on the sidewalk or fell into the sewer while the tourist attraction were commencing.
"Let us head back to the entrance and let the next group come in." guided Monsieur Duran.
The friendly but stern tourist guide lead the five of them away, as tourists of other groups barging in the area they left.
Outside, Monsieur Duran had each of them returned the wireless earphone. The kids handed them to his hand and after a farewell greets Monsieur Duran left them to join the crew of Time Travel Park.
The five youngsters now completely realized they were back to reality and exuberantly about their recent experiences as they walked along Champs Elysees, the most beautifull street in the world. They joined other groups leaving the same tourist site.
It was late in the afternoon when they strolled along the 2 kilometres long area most visited spot of time traveling tourists held by Tunnel Educations in cooperation with Paris Commerce and Industry Chamber. On any given day, the sidewalk with luxurious stores were swarmed by wandering tourists. The prestigious bicycle race, Tour de France, is also held in the area.
Meanwhile, behind them were several TV crews covering the attraction live.
in no time, the world is having a Time Travel fever. Everywhere people are sharing their experiences having visited the past. One TV reporter narrated an opening facing the camera for his audiences at home.
He continued by greeting, "Good afternoon. I am Victor Bazin live from the Bastille Day this year. The day which celebrates the French Revolution during 1789-1799, a period where radical social and political struggle marked the history of France forever, perhaps even, the Europe in general. The centuries old monarchy that ruled France crumbled in just three years.
The conflict between supporters and opposition of the Revolution continued for the next two centuries. France Revolution politically gave birth to Liberalism which demands democracy and individual freedom, democratic republican countries and revolutions against absolute power.
Ever since Tunnel Educations Inc. invented the time machine, we now are able to not only celebrating but experience the social revolution happened 3 centuries ago, first hand."
During the broadcast, everybody on the street could view Victor Brazin report on an outdoor LED TV
"Eh!" Geoffry exclaimed, the tall fellow realizing something. "Where are we going?"
All of them stopped walking toward the bus stop.
"Aren't you gonna get some pins, Kirana?" Geoffry asked.
"Oh Yeah." Kirana was delighted to be reminded, "And you are looking for some T Shirt right, Austin?" She paid it forward.
So they all hasted back and headed for the souvenir shops.
Along the Champs Elysees luxurious restaurant were lined up such as l'Atelier Renault and Ledoyen, with some night clubs. Aside of those, worldclass beautiques were also available like Louis Vuitton, Mont-Blanc, Guerlain, Ferrari along with Banana Republic, Abercrombie, Sephora were also in the area.
But the five of them despite studying in Paris, were not exactly from jet set families, Kirana Chandra Dewi was an Indonesian student. They were all content just to window shopping and settled for tourist grade souvenirs.
"Look!" Kirana exclaimed pointing at an outdoor screen
All of them went wild seeing themselves on TV which means they were right behind Bazin.
They posed and had fun with the instant fame which Bazin not only didn't mind but sort of played along with it.
"Hi guys! This is a live show broadcasted worldwide." Bazin greeted. "Would you mind sharing what's like traveling through time?"
The kids were totally excited by the greeting and half believed they were interviewed on global TV! They frantically looked for the nearest camera.
"Awesome!" Eliot yelled before being asked.
Bazin laughed with them and join the excitement.
"Let's hear it from the gorgeous one," Bazin turned to Kirana while Eliot kind of having his own show.
"Do you enjoy the trip to the past just now?" Bazin asked and held up the mic to her.
"I am definitely going to be back ..." Said the new time traveling junkie, Kirana.
Bazin shook his head smiling totally amused but not done yet. He turned to Geoffry.
"Ok, let's try it with you and see if we can have a coherent answer."
Geoff smiled at his friends and was ready with an answer.
"Was traveling to the past as amazing as it sound, to you ?" Bazin asked
"It's nothing special ... just like going to an IMAX show." Geoff said. That got Bazin curious.
"Really?" Bazin followed." How is that ?"
"It felt like a setup! There are nothing cool about it, just the same technology like for concert and movies."
"But didn't you see as you get the ticket in the building ..." Bazin continued," there is a special room with special crews, the time machine and skilled operators?"
Geoff stood his ground.
"There should at least a weather effects... some winds or breezes... but no... just plain audio visual."
"No it's not just that!" Austin disagreed. "In the time travel we are really IN the scene unlike IMAX where you just sit in a rocking chair."
"Yeah, Geoff," Eleonore chimed in," What do you expect? Blood on your face?" she laughed.
"Geoff, you should tried the other ride," Victor Bazin suggested," Like going to the 19th century, when Napoleon War broke!"
Bazin pointed the Arc de Triomphe monument at the end of the stree which was build by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806 to celebrate his victory over Austerlitz war. It is now as iconic as the Eiffel Tower.
"You will see the difference between real war and hollywood war!"
Bazin had to end the interview. One of his guy signaled they were connected with US, Phoneix reporter for another live coverage.
Through the LED screen, the time travel attraction were reported live around the globe. Phoenix, USA was special because it was the city where the time travel first invented. A female reporter was standing by patiently.
Bazin waited for the central broadcaster to synch the show so the audiences could view them both without delay despite thousands of distances between the two reporters.
After awhile he was given the green light.
"Bonjour Michele Wicaksono, Tu vas bien?" Bazin greeted his Phoenix colleague,"You look loveliest today ...."
Michele blushed by Bazin compliment.
"Halo Bazin, we are doing great here. I see Paris seems to have the greatest time there." Michele returned the greeting by cleverly change the subject back to the scene instead of answering her co worker flirts.
"Michele, I understand you are there with the CEO of Tunel Educations Inc. So go ahead we are all here in Paris pretty curious of what you can tell us from Phoenix, USA."
"That's right, Bazin," Michele concured, "right now we in Phoneix, USA are covering the launching of time travel in the city featuring Richard Wearnstein.
The camera panned to the lovely Michele Wicaksono from TVMaker interviewing Mr. Wearnstein live.
"After years of mega promotions in various major cities in the world Time Travel finally launched here in Phoenix, Arizona this summer. This is an a historical moment for Tunnel Educations Inc. and the world." Michele deliver the opening speech
She then turned to the number one person in Tunnel Educations Inc.
"Tunnel Educations appointed Phoenix as it's gateway to the world. Tickets for the show that opened last night have been sold out.
With me is Richard Wearnstein as the CEO of Tunnel Educations right in the middle of this excitement as a true entertainer.
Mr. Wearnstein with this promotions, Phoenix becomes such a hit that Tunnel Educations is flooded by audiences. What do you think about this?" The reporter directed the mic to Mr. Richard Wearnstein.
"Yeah... delightful, most delightful... this second day morning, people already been lining up to enter the beautifully decorated building. Tunnel Educations have prepared some shows with world class artists inside to entertain everybody with songs and othwr attractions..." Reported Mr. Wearnstein. "Tunnel Educations also offer souvenirs which also sold out on every batch." proclaimed Mr. Wearnstein proudly."
"On a more serious note, Mr. Wearnstein...", Michele continued
CEO Tunnel Education noded for the next question
"How is the prospect of Time Travel in the future? These last few weeks it has been a hit, but would this realistic illusion stay entertaining in the future?" Michele inquired.
Wearnsteins shoulder shaken as he could not contained himself scoffing over the question
Then confidently he replied. "We had worked with the FBI, solving crimes with the Time Travel machine, we even succeeded in uncovering cold cases. The Time Travel machine had proven useful as a prosecution tool for the FBI, we are now just waiting for the US Congressional Bill to be approved."
"Really?" Michelle, surprised by the information, continued the interview.
There were rumours on how the Time Travel machine will be used to prove if Jesus really was crusified. Could you confirm that?" demanded Michele.
"Yes we must admit, with the time machine all the world mysteries can be unconvered to reveal the truth but we need regulation to a sensitive request like that. They remain as controversial requests hence we would need some kind of protection by the law."
Michele quickly added another question as the CEO of the Tunel Educations seemed to be about to move on.
"Will the Time Travel launched in Jakarta will be as successful as those being held in US and Europe?" Michele asked.
"Absolutely!" Mr. Wearnstein responded optimisitically. "Like any other countries, the success in Jakarta wont be too far behind."
Two cameras zoomed in on both of their warm conversations
"The thing is," continued Michele. "If we have the fascinating cowboys, indians and the confederation in US, the Midieval era in Europe and the Vikings or Columbus quest and the Egyptians in Pharaoh time ... Will we witness the beginning of colonialism in Indonesia?" Michele joked.
Amused by the joke, Wearnstein smiled before answering.
"Indonesian history is as fascinating as other countries like the Europeans." Wearnstein claimed. "One of the most anticipated packet is the research by Proff. Arysio Nunes dos Santos (Phd) that said Indonesia might have been the Atlantis in the past."
"Is that a fact?" Michele exclaimed but before she can follow up on it," Wearnstein added, "but there is nothing to say for now, it is still in the making. The press conference however will be launched simultaneously here and other places."
Michele held back to let Mr. Wearnstein finished.
"The most important thing of this time travel thing is the nostalgic values. Overseas universities have used this travel as a comparative studies in history." Mr. Wearnstein continued. "As you can see how in Paris. Wearnstein pointed out.the time travel machine has the academic advantages in researching the French Revolution."
Michele Wicaksono nods in agreement with the fit middle aged gentlemans statement.
"Ok! Thank you Mr. Wearnstein." Michelle extended her hand to end the interview, "Good luck!"
Wearnstein shook the hand and returned the greet, You are welcome., before retiring to join the crowd mingling.
"Ok, dear audience, that was a sneakpeek from Mr. Richard Wearnstein, CEO Tunnel Educations. Now lets take the 12 hours flight to jakarta. Michele directed, Sonia our reporter will shownus how festive the Time Travel launching in Jakarta."
After a brief pause waiting for the New York studio routing the broadcast, Sonia went online.
"Hello Michele, and everybody there in US, how is everybody." Sonias greetings was loud and clear on Micheles earpiece. Camera still fixed on Michele.
"Sonia!" Michele embraced the enthusiasm, It looks like a lot of fun there, how would you describe the scene in Jakarta tonight?"
"Yep, Michele. You can see for yourself along with the US audiences how crazy it is here!" Sonia had to scream through the crowd in the building.
"Sonia, we will direct the camera to you so you can report everything live from there." Michele announced.
Sonia took the lead as soon as she had the camera fixed on her reporting from Jakarta. []
While Sonia reporting the event live, behind her a new batch of audiences strolling out from the theatre all looked delighted.
On other coridor, a small groupmof families watched the panel above them holding out their tickets. They were so sure they are next on the line judging from their ticket numbers.
Sonia while still reporting, caught Marwan at the corner of her eyes and decided to pursuit him enthusiastically. She signaled the cameraman to follow her.
"... I have with me here Proff. Marwan Batubara," she reported as she caught up with Marwan gracefully. "How nice to see you here Proff, so could you share with us what do you think of this new time travel attraction?"
Marwan recognizing Sonia whom he worked with in several occasions before was about to answer that when his familys ticket number was announced.
"Im sorry, Sonia." Marwan regreted, "We are up."
Sonia couldnt do anything much but insisted anyway.
"If you dont mind, I will wait for you here."
Marwan shrugged.
Marwan couldnt afford to miss the ride along with his wife and two kids. They booked it three months ago.
The packet he ordered was an economic one, a journey 30 years into the past when he was twelve. He convinced the family the nostalgia is cool.
So Marwan left Sonia who insisted to wait for him to come out.
Sonia was determined to interview Marwan because aside of her good relationship they had, her career took off because of a piece she did with this antropolog professor. That last interview they had cranked up her talk show rating through the roof. []
