Chapter 1

Lior was the son of a rich tycoon who lived in the kingdom of Calystria. His family was loved and admired by many. To others, they seemed almost too perfect—their wealth, their status, and their happy life often stirred jealousy in insecure hearts. They had an adored only son, and a couple whose love for each other was admired by everyone around them
Lior’s life was too perfect, so perfect that he thought it would last forever. Each day felt like a blessing, and he never once asked God for more, for he already had everything—loving parents, a happy home, and a life others could only dream of.
He believed nothing could take that away. But on the very morning of his seventh birthday, the happiness he cherished most was torn from him forever. In a single day, the world he loved shattered, leaving him with a loss so deep he could never imagine healing from it.
When that day came, all Lior could think of was leaving the world behind, just to be with his parents again. He cried until his voice grew weak, he fell ill from grief, and hopelessness consumed him. The two people who had loved and adored him most were gone, and there was no one left to hold him, no one left to comfort him.
One day, questions began to rise out of nowhere. Why had the company’s shares been given to someone unknown? Lior was supposed to be the heir, his name should have been written on everything his parents left behind. So why had it all been taken by someone else?
Lior ended up losing everything — his parents and their properties.
Alaric was the youngest son of the king, but he often felt invisible, even as everyone watched and judged him. His mother had been a servant who got pregnant by his father, and to many, he was nothing. His father already had eight sons and a crown prince, so what happened with his mother was seen as just a moment of lust. Alaric grew up feeling unwanted.
His mother, desperate to gain power, was willing to do anything to get rid of the queen. But in the end, her plans failed, leaving her defeated and broken. She saw no way out and tragically took her own life.
When his mother left him alone with his stepmother, father, and eight brothers, Alaric felt out of place in the palace. Despite living among royalty, he felt more like a commoner who had only been invited there by chance.
Chapter 2
Lior grew up determined to uncover the truth about what really happened to his parents. There had been plenty of evidence back then, but the police offered no answers, as if they were hiding something.
Out of desperation, Lior finally discovered who had killed his parents. It was the king himself, the ruler of Calystria. From that moment, hatred consumed him. He despised the king and his entire bloodline, vowing to do whatever it took to destroy their family and bring them to ruin.
Lior hadn’t spent all those years just investigating. Over time, he became known as the “Shadow,” in the country, an assassin. (a clumsy assassin 🌝)
From that day on, he began plotting the deaths of everyone who stood in his way.
Alaric was the last surviving son of the king. One by one, his eight brothers had fallen, each rumored to be assassinated in the shadows. Even the king himself met a mysterious ill, the cause never revealed.
When the throne was left empty, it was “Alaric” the youngest and the only heir still breathing, who was crowned as the new king at the age of 18th.
Though everyone knew he never desired the throne, Alaric still rose to become a great ruler when the crown was placed upon his head. He smiled often, yet his people could see the truth in his eyes. They knew he longed for another life, far from the heavy weight of kingship. Still, they cherished him. They admired his wisdom, his effort, and even the fortune that seemed to follow his reign. To them, King Alaric, the ruler who never wished to rule, was both a blessing and a mystery.
One day, King Alaric announced that he was looking for new soldiers. Everyone was excited at the chance to serve the king. Lior was interested too, but not to work for the king. He saw it as an opportunity to get close to the king and the former king, planning to assassinate them and maybe even strike at the current king while he had the chance.
