I Am Just Here to Survive the Plot

predictable as ever

. . . .
It was still early — too early for most students to even think about showing up — but Shen Ruyi was already seated in his usual spot by the window.
The classroom was quiet, sunlight crawling lazily across the polished floor. A few other scholarship students were there too, already bent over textbooks, highlighting lines, whispering formulas under their breath. Ruyi had his own notebook open, though he wasn’t reading it. His chin rested on his palm as he stared blankly at the page, his mind somewhere else entirely.
Half an hour, he thought. Half an hour before the circus begins.
And right on schedule, the atmosphere began to change. One by one, the rest of the students filed in — the wealthy ones, the glamorous ones, the ones who walked like the hallway belonged to them.
Tang Yuxi arrived quietly, her steps small, her expression unreadable. She slipped into her seat without a word. Ruyi’s eyes flickered toward her briefly — just long enough to register that the “main heroine” had entered — and then back to his notes. He had no intention of getting involved.
And then, about an hour later, he arrived.
The air shifted instantly as Li Zixuan stepped into the room — tall, composed, every step deliberate. Heads turned. Girls started whispering. Boys straightened their backs. Even the air felt like it had more weight when he walked in.
Ah, Ruyi thought, suppressing a sigh.

The male lead has entered the stage.~
Zixuan didn’t glance at anyone. He walked straight down the aisle and stopped beside Tang Yuxi’s desk — right next to where Ruyi was sitting. Without a word, he set down a bottle of milk and a neatly wrapped sandwich in front of her.

Eat
He said simply, then walked back to his own seat — the one right in front of hers — and put in his earbuds, leaning back and closing his eyes as if the world no longer existed.
The classroom erupted into hushed chatter

“I swear, I’ll die single at this rate.”
Ruyi’s pen stopped mid-word as he watched the scene from the corner of his eye. Classic

Chapter 57 material, he mused silently. Milk, sandwich, silent act of care. Cue collective squealing in three… two… one…
Sure enough, the whispers swelled louder.
But before Tang Yuxi could even unwrap the sandwich, the door slammed open again.
Zhou Minghao strode in — taller than most, broad-shouldered, carrying himself with the confidence of someone used to being obeyed. He walked straight to Zixuan’s desk and dropped himself into the seat backwards, legs sprawled out, grin sharp.

“Oi, Li Zixuan”
He called lazily, his voice filling the room.

“Stop acting so cool.”
Before anyone could react, he snatched the sandwich right out of Tang Yuxi’s hands.
“Hey—!” someone gasped
Too late. Minghao tore the wrapper open and took a big, deliberate bite. Then he reached for the milk, downed it in one go, and tossed the empty bottle into the trash with a smirk.

“This is what you give her? Hmph. Disgusting.”
Silence fell over the room. Some students glanced nervously between Zixuan and Minghao. Others leaned forward, eager for a fight. Tang Yuxi froze, her hands trembling slightly above the empty desk.
Ruyi sighed softly, turning a page in his notebook he hadn’t read. Ah, the plot thickens, he thought dryly.

Chapter 57: “Rival Appears, Sandwich Devoured.” Predictable as ever.🙄
He took a sip from his own water bottle, expression unreadable
I’ll just stay here, he told himself firmly. Quiet. Invisible. Safe.

Zhou Minghao leaned back in Tang Yuxi’s chair, chewing slowly and deliberately, eyes fixed on Li Zixuan like he was trying to start a fire.
The class held its breath.
Zixuan didn’t move at first. He didn’t even open his eyes. He just shifted slightly, pulling one earbud free, and exhaled like a man who’d just been interrupted during a nap.
When he finally spoke, his voice was soft — not raised, not angry. But the temperature in the room dropped a few degrees.

“Circus…” he murmured,
As if the word itself tasted bitter.

“You’ve started your circus again.”
A ripple went through the class. Even Minghao’s grin faltered slightly, but he masked it quickly with a scoff
Zixuan stood up slowly, turning to face him fully now. His expression was calm, but there was a weight behind his eyes that made even the air feel heavy

He took a step closer — not threatening, just enough to make everyone realize how tall he truly was.

Minghao shifted in his seat, jaw tightening, but Zixuan wasn’t finished.

“If you don’t have manners,” he said coldly, “then sit quietly. Don’t disturb others.”
A pause — and then, with that same soft, steady tone, he added:

“Or someone will have to teach you.”
The room stayed frozen in silence. No one dared to breathe too loudly.
Zhou Minghao’s grin returned — smaller, tighter, with an edge of frustration he couldn’t hide. “

“Hah"
He scoffed, pushing himself up from the chair.

“You think you can teach me something?”
Zixuan didn’t answer. He just slipped his earbud back in and sat down again, closing his eyes as if the conversation was already over.
The tension broke like thin glass — whispers started again, louder this time, buzzing with excitement and nerves.

Tang Yuxi sat frozen, unsure if she should apologize or disappear. And Shen Ruyi, still seated quietly by the window, didn’t even look up from his notebook.

Chapter fifty-seven, final page, he thought dryly. ‘Alpha showdown in the classroom.’ Seen it, read it, living it. Next, please.
He sighed softly, eyes drifting toward the window again.
Just don’t look this way, he prayed silently. As long as I stay invisible… I’ll be fine.

stay quiet

The teacher arrived not long after the confrontation. By then, the tension had thinned into a nervous silence. Zhou Minghao had slouched back into his seat, grumbling under his breath, while Li Zixuan looked as though he had never spoken at all — leaning back with his eyes closed, completely unbothered.
Class began as usual
For everyone else, at least.
For Shen Ruyi, the next few hours crawled by like molasses. He listened, scribbled notes, answered a question when called on — nothing out of the ordinary. On the surface, it was just another morning class
But his thoughts kept drifting.
Halfway through the novel, he reminded himself as he drew neat lines under a sentence in his notebook.
Shen Ruyi

Everything’s already in motion. Male lead’s falling in love. Villain’s still a circus. Female lead’s pitiful and confused. And me? I’m a background plant.
His lips twitched slightly at the thought.

Good. Stay that way.as long as i can be alive who cares
By the time the lunch bell rang, the classroom erupted into life. Bags zipped. Chairs scraped. Conversations started instantly — mostly about the same topic they’d been buzzing over all morning. “Did you see Li Zixuan this morning?!” “He talked back to Minghao. That’s rare.” “I swear, if they ever fight for real, the whole building will collapse.”
Some students rushed out together toward the elite dining hall. Others, like Ruyi, moved more slowly, carefully avoiding the clusters of wealth and noise that filled the halls.
He packed his worn-out lunch box into his bag and stood, stretching slightly. His stomach was already grumbling — but he had no plans to eat in the rich kids’ section. That was asking for trouble.
The cafeteria was split into three distinct worlds: The first hall: where the richest students dined. Expensive food, crystal water glasses, soft music.
The second: mid-tier wealthy students — still luxurious, but less extravagant.
And the third: a plain, simple hall for scholarship students like him.
Guess which one he belonged to.
Shen Ruyi

"Plant stays in the soil," he muttered in his head
Heading toward the third hall.
--- The scholarship cafeteria was quieter, smaller, and smelled faintly of disinfectant and cheap rice. A few familiar faces were already seated, bent over their meals and books. Ruyi slipped into an empty corner table, pulled out his lunch, and began eating in silence.
His food was simple — leftovers from yesterday’s dinner, carefully packed by the novel-world “mother.” It wasn’t fancy, but it was warm and comforting.
Across the campus, he could hear faint laughter and the clinking of silverware from the elite hall. He ignored it.
He was halfway through his meal when the classroom chatter from earlier caught up with him again — carried over by a group of scholarship students sitting nearby.
“Did you see the look on Zhou Minghao’s face?” “He was furious! He’s totally going to pick another fight with Li Zixuan.” “Honestly… I kind of want to see it.”
Ruyi sighed

And poked at his rice.

Of course he will. That’s Chapter 58.
He already knew how this went — the endless rivalry, the jealous fights, the dramatic confessions. It was all so predictable. And yet… here he was, living through it again.
He leaned back slightly, gaze drifting to the cafeteria door as if expecting something ridiculous to happen any second.
I’ll just stay quiet, he told himself firmly. Eat. Study. Graduate. Survive. But deep down, he knew stories never stayed simple for long.
