Accidental Family (Taekook)

Two worlds

Jungkook’s Side
The early morning light spilled across the polished floor of Jungkook’s apartment, golden and soft, but it did little to chase away the heaviness in his chest. He sat at the edge of his bed, carefully tying the laces of his shoes while glancing at the small figure curled up beneath a blanket on the couch.
Eunbu had fallen asleep there the night before, clutching one of Jungkook’s sweaters as if it were a shield against the world. Jungkook smiled faintly, brushing the boy’s bangs aside.
Jungkook
Jungkook
(softly): “Sleep a little longer, my star. Appa has to work, but I’ll pick you up soon.”
He straightened, slipping on his jacket. On the outside, he was Jeon Jungkook — a flawless model, admired by cameras and adored by crowds. But here, in the quiet, he was just a father still learning how to fill the emptiness Yuna had left behind.
For five years, he had tried to be both parents for Eunbu. Some days, he succeeded. Other days, he felt like he was barely holding it together.
.....
Taehyung’s Side
Meanwhile, across the city, the kindergarten was just waking up. The smell of crayons and chalk filled the air as Taehyung carefully arranged little chairs into a circle. He hummed under his breath, his low voice calm and melodic, as he placed a small vase of flowers on the windowsill.
To him, teaching wasn’t just a job — it was a rhythm of care, a way to nurture small souls into brighter futures. He bent down to stack picture books, pausing when one slipped open to reveal pages smeared with old paint stains from last year. He laughed softly.
Taehyung
Taehyung
(to himself): “Messy little hands make the best memories.”
Children filled the room with laughter soon after, tiny feet pattering across the wooden floor. Taehyung crouched down, greeting each one with the same warmth he always carried.
But when his eyes landed on a small boy clinging shyly to his bag, he noticed something different. The boy’s big eyes were filled with quiet strength — and a loneliness Taehyung recognized all too well. This was Eunbu, his newest student.
The stage was set. One man living behind the glamour of flashing cameras, weighed down by grief. Another, grounded in a world of crayons and storybooks, carrying warmth like second nature. And in between them, a little boy — the bridge who would bring their two worlds together.

The classroom bustled with noise, children laughing and comparing the stickers on their bags. Some darted straight for the toy shelves, others tugged at Taehyung’s sleeves, demanding his attention all at once.
Eunbu, however, stood frozen near the door. His tiny hands gripped the straps of his backpack so tightly his knuckles turned pale. He looked around the colorful classroom, eyes wide, but his little body stayed stiff, uncertain. Taehyung noticed immediately.
He crouched down, lowering himself to Eunbu’s height so their eyes could meet. His voice was soft, patient
Taehyung
Taehyung
“Good morning. You must be Eunbu, right?”
The boy blinked up at him, lips pressing together. He gave the smallest of nods.
Taehyung
Taehyung
(smiling gently): “Welcome to our class. Can I see what’s inside your bag? Maybe you brought something special with you today?”
Eunbu hesitated, then slowly tugged the zipper open. From the bag, he pulled out a slightly crumpled drawing — stick figures holding hands beneath a messy sun. One figure was small with messy hair (clearly Eunbu), one taller with dark hair (Jungkook), and another figure drawn faintly, faded by repeated erasing, as if the boy couldn’t decide whether it belonged there.
Taehyung’s chest tightened, but he didn’t let it show. Instead, his eyes sparkled with admiration.
Taehyung
Taehyung
“Wow… you’re an artist already. Is this you and your Appa?”
Eunbu nodded again, this time a little quicker. His voice was soft, barely above a whisper.
Eunbu
Eunbu
“…Appa works a lot, but he always comes back.”
Taehyung’s heart ached at the quiet pride in the boy’s tone. He reached out, gently tapping the sun on the paper.
Taehyung
Taehyung
“And this big sun — is it you? Shining bright even when Appa is busy?”
For the first time, Eunbu’s lips curved into a shy smile. The ice cracked.
Taehyung guided him toward a small table where crayons and paper were waiting. A few other kids waved eagerly for him to join. Eunbu still hovered close to Taehyung, but the way his shoulders relaxed just a little told Taehyung enough: the boy had decided he was safe.
As the day went on, Eunbu stayed close to his teacher. While the other children scattered across the classroom, Eunbu’s little hand always seemed to tug lightly at Taehyung’s sleeve. And every time, Taehyung welcomed it, offering nothing but warmth in return. By dismissal time, when Jungkook appeared at the door, tired but smiling, Eunbu did something unexpected.
He tugged Taehyung’s hand and whispered, just loud enough for him to hear:
Eunbu
Eunbu
“Appa will like you.”
Taehyung blinked in surprise, then chuckled softly, though his heart gave a strange flutter. He didn’t know it yet, but this small boy had already started weaving his way into a place Taehyung hadn’t realized was empty.

.........
The days passed quickly, each one weaving Eunbu a little deeper into the rhythm of his new classroom. At first, he hovered in the corner, watching the other children build block towers or chase each other in clumsy circles. But Taehyung always made space for him — never forcing, only inviting.
One morning, during art time, Eunbu sat at the edge of the table while the others splashed colors without restraint. He gripped his crayon tightly, hesitant to start. Taehyung noticed, sliding into the tiny chair beside him.

Taehyung
You know, I’m terrible at drawing cats. Mine always end up looking like… potatoes
Eunbu
Eunbu
(eyes widening): “…Potatoes?”
Taehyung
Taehyung
(grinning, doodling quickly): “See? Look, this was supposed to be a cat. But now it’s… Mr. Potato Cat.”
He turned the paper around, revealing a round blob with pointy ears that looked more like triangles stuck in mashed potatoes. Eunbu stared, and then — a sound Taehyung hadn’t heard from him before — a quiet giggle.
Eunbu
Eunbu
It’s silly
Taehyung
Taehyung
(pretending to sigh): “I know. That’s why I need a real artist to help me. Can you fix Mr. Potato Cat for me?”
Eunbu’s small hand reached for the crayon without hesitation this time. He drew carefully, adding whiskers and a tail, his tongue peeking out in concentration. When he finished, he pushed the paper back.
Eunbu
Eunbu
“Now… it’s a cat.”
Taehyung
Taehyung
(smiling warmly): “Now it’s perfect. Thank you, artist Eunbu.”
From that day on, Eunbu began sitting closer to the other children, joining in games with Taehyung always nearby. If he tripped, Taehyung’s steady hand helped him up. If he grew shy, Taehyung’s calm voice anchored him. And slowly, the boy who once stood at the doorway clutching his bag now started running into class with a tiny smile on his face.
One Afternoon It was story time, and Taehyung read with his usual flair, voices changing for each character. The children were in stitches of laughter. Eunbu sat right at his side, his small hand absentmindedly resting on Taehyung’s sleeve. When the story ended, Eunbu leaned closer and whispered, as if sharing a secret.
Eunbu
Eunbu
“Teacher Tae… do you stay alone when school ends?”
Taehyung
Taehyung
(pausing, then gently): “Sometimes. But my family visits a lot. Why do you ask?”
Eunbu
Eunbu
(looking down): “…Because Appa works late. And it’s just me and him at home.”
The words were soft, but they hit Taehyung like a stone dropped into still water. He looked at the boy’s solemn face, the way his little fingers fidgeted. Taehyung smiled, brushing a hand over his hair.
Taehyung
Taehyung
“Well, when you’re here, you’re never alone. You have me, and all your friends too. Okay?”
Eunbu nodded slowly, as if filing the words away carefully in his heart.
That evening, when Jungkook came to pick him up, Eunbu ran to him, clutching the silly “Potato Cat” drawing in his hands.
Eunbu
Eunbu
(excitedly): “Appa! Teacher Tae and I made a cat! Want to see?”
Jungkook’s tired eyes softened as he crouched to look, but for the first time, his gaze flickered past the drawing — to the man standing behind his son, smiling gently. And so, without realizing it, Jungkook’s world and Taehyung’s world brushed together for the very first time.
