I Adopted The Unwanted Child

Chapter 1: A New Beginning

It was a rainy night, and I was there lying on the ground, covered in a pool of blood. I could see people around me, their eyes filled with pity and sympathy...

It all started when I was on my way home from work. A man wearing a black hoodie is arguing with someone on the side of the street. I don't know what they are talking about, but...

The man in hood suddenly pulled a gun hidden in his shirt and aimed it towards the man. This caused everyone in shock and run in panic.

Gunshots rang out as the two person, engaged in a fight. Recognizing the danger of the situation, I quickly turned away, planning my escape.

But who would have thought, the man in the hood accidentally pulled the trigger, sending a bullet towards me. I collapse to the ground, feeling the pain where I was shot.

'Damn, why out of all people, was it me who got shot' I said in my mind.

10 minutes had passed and I'm starting to lose my consciousness. Even the pain from the gunshot seems to dissipate.

'I can't feel anything..... My eyelids are growing heavier. Can I... still make it?'

As I closed my eyes, the sound of sirens and people shouting filled the air around me. Despite the fact that help had arrived, I knew for sure that there was no hope left. My time is running out...

Accepting my fate, I believed that everything is going to end now... Until, I opened my eyes and found myself in an unfamiliar place.

I could already tell from the surroundings that I'm in a deep forest, but why am I here?

"Where am I?" I pondered, my mind filled with curiosity.

Hoping to find some hints or clue, I surveyed the area, only to find myself growing more perplexed.

"How did I end up here? If I had survived that gunshot, shouldn't I have woken up in a hospital?"

While thinking about my current situation, a sudden thought crossed my mind. I glance at my clothes and noticed something startling.

"Wait, these aren't my clothes!" I exclaimed, my voice filled with confusion. I instinctively ran my fingers through my hair, only to discover that it had grown longer than I remembered.

"This can't be right" I muttered in disbelief. "I remember having a short hair! How could it have grown so quickly?"

"Wait, what about my face?" Anxious to find out, I hurriedly made my way towards the nearby river to catch a glimpse of my reflection. "Alright, let's see what I look like."

As I stood by the water's edge, my heart raced with anticipation.

I gazed into the rippling surface, hoping to see my familiar features staring back at me. But as soon as I caught sight of my reflection, I froze, unable to believe what I saw.

"W-who is she?" I stammered, my voice trembling.

As I looked at my reflection, a mix of surprise and awe washed over me. It's a face that is undeniably beautiful.

The features were mine, yet somehow different, as if I had been transported into another person's body.

The face that stared at me had eyes that glowed with a bright blue color, like the deep sea. The skin on her face seemed to emit a soft, radiant glow, while her hair was a striking shade of black, as dark and smooth as obsidian.

"Hahaha, no, I must have seen it wrong." I awkwardly laughed, desperately trying to convince myself that I must be mistaken.

Yet, no matter how many times I looked, the reflection before me remained the same.

"No way, you got to be kidding me. Are you telling me that I actually died and now possessing someone else body ?" I found it hard to believe, but everything seemed to point in that direction.

Questions flooded my mind. 'How did this happen? Was I dreaming? Or had I somehow entered an alternate world where everything I once knew had changed ?'

"Agh! I can't take it anymore!" The frustration and despair overwhelmed me as I grappled with the reality of my situation.

"If I really got reincarnated, can they have at least put me in a town, or somewhere other than a desolate forest." Feeling the weight of my frustrations, I let out a deep sigh and slowly lowered myself onto the soft grass beneath me.

Looking up at the trees swaying in the breeze, I couldn't help but feel the weight of isolation.

Closing my eyes, I tried to find some peace amidst the sounds of nature. I needed to clear my head and make sense of this whole mess.

As I was taking a nap, I heard a voice talking nonstop about my profile, skills or something like that... Unable to bear it any longer, I opened my eyes and shouted for it to stop.

"Argh! Enough already!" As I glanced ahead, I was surprised to see a blue screen with words displayed on it.

I fell silent, staring at the screen before me, then I finally realized and started to understand what might it be.. "Is this... what they call a status window or something? ... No way..." I wondered, my eyebrows scrunching together as I tried to make sense of it all.

The idea seemed familiar, like something I had seen in a game or a story. But seeing it in real life was both fascinating and confusing.

As I was looking at a display of my own attributes and information, I couldn't help but notice that my name was blank, leaving me puzzled.

"Um... Why is my name missing?"

Just as I was about to touch the screen, a voice emerged from it. "Please enter your desired name."

"Wah!" I exclaimed, taken aback by the unexpected response.

'Did it just talk?' I thought to myself with a mix of surprise. 'Then, the voice I heard earlier must be from this system.'

The voice sounded somewhat synthetic, yet undeniably human.

I let out a sigh and was about to enter my name, but a thought struck me. "Hold on, if it said desired name, does that mean I can choose any name I want?" I pondered aloud. The system responded, confirming my suspicion.

"I see," I replied with a smile forming on my lips. "Since I'm starting a new life, why not have a fresh name to go with it?"

With a sense of excitement, I entered my chosen name and stood up, ready test out my newfound abilities.

"Okay, now let's see." Looking at my status, I noticed that my abilities were not particularly impressive.

There were no cheat skills or remarkable powers, but rather, they seemed to be below average.

'Guess not everyone gets a special abilities.' I thought, feeling disappointed. However, as I continue to explore my status, I came across two intriguing things: An appraisal skill and inventory.

"Inventory!" I said in excitement.

"Thank goodness, at least I have something useful. And this appraisal skill too... Even though it's only at level 1 it's still useful, right?" I murmured, expressing my doubts.

Eager to test it out, I searched for an item to appraise. Soon, my eyes fell into a light blue mushroom attached on a tree trunk.

I used the skill on the mushroom, hoping for information, but was left disappointed when it merely described it as a mushroom. "Why?" I uttered in disappointment.

Then, the system responded, "Answer: Due to the level of the skill, it is unable to provide more detailed information."

I turned to the system and then asked, "Then, do you know how to increase the skill level?"

"Answer: To increase the level, the holder of the skill must level up." The system replied.

"Hahaha... Damn, my level." I let out an awkward laugh as I muttered the word under my breath.
