I was born into a wealthy family. Although my face is pretty, I don't have any talent. In third grade, I was diagnosed with color blindness. I lost my voice due to an accident in eighth grade. I grew up living with my biological father. He's the CEO of a big company. Even though he's my father, he never loved me. He treats me like I'm rubbish. I have a twin sister, unlike me, she was talented and normal. She was the perfect daughter of my family. While I was treated like the servant of the house, my sister was spoiled. I guess it's normal since she's the heiress of dad's company after all. Whenever we go to school or go outside together people would gossip. I was considered the ugly duckling of the family.

"I've been waiting for this day since the day I was born." I said waking up in the servant room on my eighteenth birthday.

It was strange everyone was gone. My birthdays have always been my favorite, I get the day off. Although I was treated like a servant in the house, I never felt alone. There are people working for my dad that treats me like their own family. I walk out and BOOM! Balloons and confetti rains. There in front of me, Maria was holding a cake. Maria is one of the maid in the manor. I always thought of her as my mom.

"Happy birthday." Maria smiles,"You're 18 now, that mean you can leave this place! Blow the candle and make a wish."

Although she was smiling, I could see tears forming in her eyes. I obey and blow the candle out.

"Maria, don't worry. I'll visit you often" I signed and have her a hug.

Maria know sign language.

"Come on lets clean this up before my dad finds out." I wrote on a note pad reaching for the broom smiling.

After we cleaned up the confetti, I went back to my room and pick my stuff up. After packing, I headed straight to my dad's office. Full of confidence, I opened the door. With the sign saying "Dad, I'm moving out!".

Seeing that he wasn't there, I just left it on the table. And so I left the Gu manor for good.

Fast forward 4 years later, I graduated from Ming de college,in China, majoring in Business Administration and Fashion. After graduating, I went to company after company in search for a job. Until one day, while I was on a search for a job, I bump into someone.

"I'm sorry" said a voice offering me a hand

He helped me stand up. Nervously, I tried sign "I'm sorry" to him but it seem that he didn't understand.I anxiously search for my notepad. And finally find it. On it I wrote "I'm sorry for bumping into you."

"No, it's alright, but let me get you something else to wear." He said waving a hand.

I continue to write, "It's okay, sorry for bothering you." I smiled and walk away.

"Wait! Your resume!" He yells out

"Oh right, I left took it out!" I thought to myself

Walking back, I wrote,"thank you!" And try to take the paper back but he seem to hold onto it.

"So you're July Zhou? I'm Nian Zu Wei. Nice to meet you!"

I wrote, "Yes, and nice to meet you too." And smiled

"What's your major?"

"Business Administration and Fashion" I wrote

"Come work for me? We need a Fashion director, what do you say?"

"Really? That's great!" I nodded and wrote with a big smile across my face

"No problem, why don't you come to my company. And we can get you started."

"Sure!" I wrote.

Now at the age of 28, I'm the Director of Wei Group's Fashion sector. In just 10 years, I went from being someone useless to the Director of Wei Group's Fashion sector. I was the first mute person to be a director at Wei Group.

"What a beautiful day, I didn't over slept so I can take my time walking to work!" I thought to myself.

I decided to go to Barnes' coffee and get a cup of good old plain coffee.

"Good morning Mr.Barnes" I sign smiling

"The usual?" Mr.Barnes asks

"Sure, thank you." I signed

I waited at the counter for a while. Then Mr.Barnes came out with my iced coffee in one and and cake in the other.

"Here you go dear, happy anniversary. It's on me today!" Mr.Barnes said happily.

"Thank you Mr.Barnes. Happy anniversary!" I signed

"No problem! You should run, you'll be late. Have a great day!" Mr.Barnes said point at the clock behind him.

"Oh, thanks. Have a good day!" I sign

Then I ran out of the shop. Since I was in the rush, I just waited for the light. I didn't look at the car like normal.

Then my world went black...

I woke up to not being able to see anything. However, I realize I could speak.

"July! You're awake!" Said a voice.

"Maria?" I said, it was the first word I said in years

"July, you can speak now?" Marks said

It sounds like she was crying.

"Maria, I can't see anything."

"What? Let me ask the doctor!" Maria rushes out

A moment later, the doctor comes in.

"I don't know why but it seem that somehow, you have lost your eyesight and gained your voice back." The doctor said

"Will she ever get her eyesight back?" Maria asks

"It's unknown, there a chance it will come back and there's a chance it won't." The doctor said

Then silent.

"Maria, I want to rest for a bit, can you help me?"

"Sure darling."

There, I lay in the hospital for a few days. One day, my colleagues came.

"July, we're so glad you're okay!" Mary said

Since the day I lost my eyesight, my ear became very sensitive.

"Mary?" I asked

"July you can talk again!"

"Yea, but I lost my eyesight in exchange."

"Oh... it's okay"

"I can't do my job anymore." I burst into tears

"No no, July. You can still do your job even when you're blind." Mary pull me into a hug

"But I can't supervise anyone without seeing them."

"July, don't worry too much." Mary said calmly, "We'll find a way!"

I don't know if she smiled or not but her voice sound very happy. A few days later I got discharge from the hospital. They gave me a service dog named June. He's a great help, not only physically but mentally. Although I'm blind, I can still prepare food like normal since I've been doing it for so long. This saves me lots of money especially because I have no family member that would care about me enough or have time to take care of me. After getting discharged from the hospital, I stayed home for a week. Then I decided to go to my company and ask about my situation. Mary came over to walk to work with me.

"Mary, thank you for doing this."

"No problem."

"Can you tell out the street names?"

"Sure, I'll sus the street name every time we turn or got into a new street."

"Thank you, you're the best."

With Mary holding one hand and holding my dog on the other hand, I feel safe. Mary tell me the street names as promised. But when we reach Emison road...

I started to have a panic attack.

"No no no, the car. I'm gonna go blind, I'm gonna die. I can't do my job. No no no" I mumbled with my hands around my head.

Mary pull me into a hug, "It's okay, I'm here. It's okay, it's okay. Nothing gonna happen to you it's okay."

I started to calm down but. I could feel all eyes on me. Then I heard siren, it was very familiar. I lost consciousness.

When I woke up, the doctors ask me to follow them to go get a MRI scan of my brain.

I changed into the hospital gown and lay on the platform. It was like something from outer space. It was kinda terrifying. I calmed myself down and the platform started to move toward the circle looking thing. After the MRI scan, I waited for a result from the doctor.

"Miss Zhou, according to the MRI scan and what happened. Emison road gave you memories of the accident and you got a panic attack." The doctor said

"Oh, is there anyway to stop it?" I asked

"Well it hard to say. But in most case, it only happen occasionally. So you don't have to worry about it too much. But to be safe, you should come here once a year for a check up. That being said, you can go back now."

"Thank you doctor." I smile finding the railing.

"Let me get you to your room, your dog and colleague is there waiting." He put my hand on his shoulder.

"Thank you." I said as I follow behind

"Oh and your friend has registered for you to get discharged."

"Oh okay, thank you for the information."

"We're here. Take care!"

Mary ran out to help me.

"Are you okay?"

"Yea Im fine."

"I register your leave, do you wanna go to the company now? I'll drive you." Mary offers

"Mary, you know me best oh and thanks in advance."

"We've been working together and best friend for years now." She laugh

"Come on lets go." I stand up reaching for June

"Okay"

"June come here!" I call out as she runs to me. "Good girl!" I have her a belly rub

Mary grab my hand and lead me to her car. Then we drove to my company. Mary brought me to Chad's office.

"Mr.Wei, July is here to see you." Mary said

"Tell her to come in." Chad said

Mary help me to the chair in front of Chad the leave.

"How are you?" He asks

"I'm fine. But I don't think I can continue my job being blind. Do you have any job that doesn't require eye sight?"

"Well, you have a point. But we don't have jobs that doesn't require eyesight. But I know someone who's hiring. This job doesn't require your eyesight. Just years of experience which you have."

"That's great! Could you ask that person for me to get an interview Mr.Wei?"

"But you need to know mandarin and move to China to do this job."

"Hmmmmm, I don't have any family here. I am very good at mandarin. But I'm blind so I'll need assistance to know where I am."

"That won't be a problem. If you're willing to take that job, I'll arrange things for you!"

"That'll be great. Thank you for everything."

"No problem."

"Oh and here my resignation paper." I said reach for the paper then hand them to Chad.

"Thank you. You may go."

"Goodbye Mr.Wei." I smile waving as June lead the way.

"Well, you have a point. But we don't have jobs that doesn't require eyesight. But I know someone who's hiring. This job doesn't require your eyesight. Just years of experience which you have."

A few days later.

"Mary, thank you for helping me pack my stuff, I really appreciate it." I said

"No problem, but I'm really sad that you're moving to China." Her expression sadden

"Don't worry, I'll try go call you often. Chad has already arranged my helper so I should be fine. Don't worry too much. I'll stay in touch!"

"That's great. I'll drive you to the airport."

"Thanks Mary!"

"Buzzzz buzzzzz buzzzz" my phone rang.

"July, someone calling." She picks up the call and hands me my phone

"Hello?" I said

"Hello, this is Chad. The person I arranged to help you navigate China can't help you today because something came up in her family."

"Oh"

"I asked your employer, he said he'll personally come and pick you up from the airport. Don't worry."

"Oh that's good then. I'll just get June to go to China with me."

"Okay all set then. I gave your number to your employer so if he call you just answer him. I gotta Tun now. Bye bye." Chad hangs up

"Bye bye." I said after he hung up

"Mary, lets go." I smile trying my best to hide the fact that I won't age any assistance so she won't worry.

"Okay let's go."

We headed to her car and head for the airport.

Half way to the airport, my phone started to ring.

"July Zhou speaking."

"Hello, my name is Jun Jie Yang." Said a voice.

It sounded like he wasn't a native English speaker. So I thought he must be my employer. So I started speaking in mandarin

"My name is Zhou July, my Chinese name is Zhou Xiao Qing." I said in mandarin.

"Xiao Qing, nice to meet you. Your mandarin is amazing."

"Thank you. Mr.Yang, you must be my employer in China."

"Ah, you knew. May I ask what time your plane will be arriving in China so I could send my driver."

"It'll land at about 7 in the evening. Since I'm blind, I don't have any way to know who your driver is, is there anyway that will make it easier to know who it is?"

"My driver will have a board with writing on it that you could feel. It should say 'this is Jun Jie's driver. I'm here to get you to his company.' He'll know who you are so you don't have to worry."

"Oh that's great. Thank you. I need to go check in now. I'll talk to you in China. Bye bye."

"Bye bye" he hang up.

"Who was that you're talking to in another language?"

"My new boss."

"Oh, that's great?"

"I guess so. His driver will be picking me up from the airport."

"That's good then. You won't be lost. Well we're here. I'll get your luggage out."

"Thank you."

Then I flew to China. Leaving the busy New York City behind. After what felt like days, I finally reached my destination. My new home, my new future, my fresh start after a bad incident. I got my luggage and started to walk as June guide me toward the exit.

"Ms.Zhou, this is Jun Jie's driver. I'm here to get you to his company." Said a voice.

The same person hand me a note with carvings on it. I glide my fingers across the paper and make out the sentence, "this is Jun Jie's driver. I'm here to get you to his company." Exactly what Jun Jie said.

"Oh, okay." I reply

"Right this way." He said

"June follow the person I was talking to." I kneel down at her level and gave her a pat.

He took my luggage and June follows behind him. Jun Jie's driver open the door and for me and June.

"By the way, what's your name?" I ask with June sitting in my lap

"Lei Song."

"Oh"

"Ms.Zhou we're here." Song open the door for me and lead the way. June follows behind as always.

"Mr.Yang, she's here." Song informs

"Okay, I'll be there in just a second." Jun Jie replies

"Ms.Zhou, please wait right here." Song said point at the chair in front of me

"Thank you." I reply

After a few minutes of silent. I heard noise of someone moving toward me.

"So should I call you July or Xiao Qing?" Jun Jie asks

"Any name is fine." I reply

"Okay so from what Chad said, you have lots of experience in the fashion industry. Is that correct?"

"Yes, I was the director of Wei Group's fashion sector for 6 years. I'd would say I have at least some experience working in the fashion industry."

"Great. There are quite a few jobs I think would be suitable for you. But I'm leaning toward one right now."

"That's great, could I know what job it is?" I ask

"Well, you need to pass a this test first."

"Alright."

"Are you ready?"

"Yes"

"Okay. Song, bring them in." Jun Jie said clapping.
