Nexus
Act 1
Scene: Late at night, empty street. Nexus just got out of work, walking home.
Nexus
Nexus: Man… another long day. Same old boring routine.
Chris
(On phone call): Yo Nexus, you okay? You sound dead.
Nexus
Nexus: Haha, yeah. Just… feels like life’s passing me by. Nothing exciting ever happens.
He looks up at the night sky—stars unusually bright tonight.
Nexus
… Weird. The stars look different.
Chris
Different? What do you mean?
Nexus
Nexus: Like… they’re moving. Almost like they’re alive.
Suddenly, a streak of light rushes across the sky, crashing somewhere nearby. A rumble shakes the ground.
Nexus
Holy—! Did you hear that!?
Nexus
Something just crashed… I’m gonna check out.
Chris
Bro, NO. That’s how horror movies start.
Nexus
Haha… maybe. But hey, maybe it’s something that’ll finally break my boring cycle.
He runs toward the glowing crash site. The phone connection crackles.
Chris
Nexus? Hello?? …damn, he hung up.
At the crash site: A glowing shard pulsing with strange energy lies in a crater.
Nexus
Nexus: … The hell is this? Some kind of meteor?
He reaches out. The shard pulses. His vision blurs. A whisper echoes in his head.
“You’ve been chosen… Nexus…” it said.
The shard shatters into light, flooding into him. His body jolts, but instead of collapsing, he feels… alive, more than ever before.
Nexus
Wh-what’s happening to me…?
He looks at his hands. For a second, time around him slows—a car’s headlights in the distance seem frozen mid-motion.
Suddenly, everything snaps back to normal speed. He staggers back, breathing heavily.
Phone buzzes. It’s his Friend again.
Chris
Nexus!? Are you okay??
Chris
You sound… different.
Nexus
…Something just happened. And I don’t think my life’s gonna be boring anymore.
Act 2
Nexus
(Thinking): Yesterday felt… unreal. That moment when time was slow mooo… was it just my imagination?
Chris
Bro, you blanked out again. What’s with you? You’ve been spacing a lot since yesterday.
Nexus
Yeah… it’s nothing. Just tired, I guess.
Chris
You? Tired? Please, you usually have energy like a motorbike engine. Something’s up.
Nexus
(Thinking): He doesn’t get it… Yesterday, everything stopped. The ball froze in midair, the sound of people talking vanished. It was like the world was waiting for me to move.
Later – walking home alone.
Nexus
(Muttering): Okay, maybe I’m just going crazy… but what if it wasn’t in my head?"
suddenly, a stray dog runs into the street, a car speeding toward it.
His body moves on instinct – and suddenly, the world slows down again. He feels like he’s sprinting through honey, but somehow, he crosses the road instantly and snatches the dog away before the car passes.
Nexus
(Panting, Holding the dog): ... What… the hell did I just do?
The driver was madly shouting from the car "Kid, you crazy?! You could’ve been hit!"
Nexus
(Ignoring him, Staring at his hands): ... That wasn’t luck. I… I moved faster than the car.
Dog wagging its tail
"woof!"
Nexus
(Smiling nervously): ...Guess I saved you. But what does this mean for me?
Act 3
Morning – Nexus texting Chris.
Chris
Yeah. Why? You acting weird again?
Nexus
Maybe… I think something’s happening to me.
Chris
(Smirk): Don’t tell me… superpowers?
Nexus
Haha, maybe? I don’t know yet. Yesterday, I… well, I moved faster than a car. And it wasn’t luck.
Chris
…You saved someone, right? That’s cool, but also scary. Are you serious?"
Nexus
"Dead serious. I need to see what I can actually do."
Later – empty parking lot.
Nexus
(Thinking to himself): Okay… no cars, no people. Just me. Let’s see.
He takes a deep breath and starts jogging slowly. Then… Faster. Faster. Faster. The wind whips past him.
Nexus
Huh… I feel lighter. My body isn’t even touching the ground properly.
He jumps, running across the lot, doing loops. Time seems normal, but he notices small things—like falling leaves seem slower, distant birds barely moving.
Nexus
(Texting Chris): Something’s weird… I move so fast that everything else seems… sluggish. Not stopped, just… slow.
Chris
Wait… wait… are you saying time is slowing down around you.
Nexus
Maybe just my view. I move faster than my eyes can process. It’s… hard to explain.
Nexus
Alright, experiment #2.
He throws a small rock into the air, and instead of catching it with one hand, he moves around it, catching it behind his back. Then again, behind his head, then bouncing it on his shoulder.
Nexus
... Okay. Definitely faster than I expected.
Chris
(Texting nervously): Be careful, man. Don’t get carried away. You have no idea what this could do.
Nexus
Relax. I’m just testing. No one is around to get hurt… yet."
Evening – Chat with Chris.
Nexus
Day 3… I can do more than I thought. Nothing crazy yet, but I feel like… something bigger is coming.
Chris
Famous last words. Just don’t go crazy, alright? We’re your friends, not your stunt coordinators.
Nexus
(Smirking): Don’t worry. I got this… I think.
