Having to grow up alone is the scariest thing ever

My name is Khloe Karl I'm 18 years of age yeah I grew up on my own (giggles) well not literally on my own of course I have parents but I still grew up on my own.

Well I'm still in the University although it gets crazy, stressful,and boring most times,I have to keep going and studying for my parents and of course my self.

I am a science student studying a course that will bring money I've always dreamed of having my own company or maybe working for a prestigious one well I guess I just have to finish my schooling and start preparing for it then.

THREE YEARS LATER

"Khole" we could hear my mom Jasmine calling.

So I have finally finished my studies and my master degree I am official an architectural engineer.I'm back home to stay with my parents well for now.

JASMINE'S POV

"Khole"she called hurry up you are going to be late for your interview "Jasmine said" I'm coming mom khole replied.

I am preparing for my job interview in front of a mirror,I am pacing repeatedly back and forth memorising my speech, I was going to be interviewed verbally based on my qualifications well I was running late and it's getting mom worried.

"Khole" her mom called again "I'm here mom and I am also prepared for my interview" I said "that's good to hear but you delayed" my mom said "mom but I'm ready now" "yeah let's pray and commit your interview into God's hands" .They prayed and her mom wished her Good luck .

"I have to take the bus uugh I hate public transport they also delay mate I just book a bolt" just then my phone rang "hey khole" hey ayra are you there yet" no I'm actually at the bus station I think I'm going to book a lift because I've been waiting for the bus ahh" I sighed "so what about you have you reached" "nope I'm in a lift I'm a bit nervous" "dont worry you will get it okay" yeah thanks alot I wish you the best too" "thank you"

XAVIER'S POV

Xavier is a handsome well built, Afro-italian guy with cute curly hair and perfect white teeth he's in his 20's.He is also the CEO of Diamond Rush.

Diamond Rush is a very well know company that is located in the middle part of Italy (it's where market is really on a rise), well Xavier was placed there to oversee the running of the company.

"Oh thank God,here I've sent it"checks to see "oh thanks" yeah thank you "and he drove off "I'm finally here oh"I looked up and boldly it wrote "DIAMOND RUSH" I was finally here I thought to myself, I let out a sigh and walked inside with a smile on my face. Reaching the reception I greeted "gooday" "gooday" the receptionist named Clara replied "im here for the job interview "oh yes" she picks up the telephone"hello sir,yes I should send he in ok bye" I'll take you there" ok thanks" she smiled.

We took the elevator on getting there she bowed and left me.I took a deep breath and relaxed before pressing the door bell a voice inside "come in" I hesitated a little before I walked in "Goodday sir" I said bowing my head he looked up not noticing me for the first time said to me "welcome"I looked up upon seeing him she was so astonished I would say I was staring at his eyes he had clear eyes, his perfectly curved lips still fantasing he brought my mind back "excuse me I didn't get your name" he said smiling I couldn't help but to smile back "im sorry"he nodded "go on" "My name is Khole Karl" "so miss khole what job position did you apply for" he asked "there was a vacancy for assistant manager" "oh so you applied for it then" "yes I did" I replied "ok can I see your credentials"he said "sure" I said handing it over to him with a smile well him also returning the smile he took the file from her and went through it he gave me back the file and rest on his chair turning from side to side with his index finger on his chin he said"well I've gone through your file I must say impressive "I nod" well you are hired"shocked I asked "what" "you got the job congratulations" so happy I said "thank you sir I appreciate"yeah well you can actually stop calling me that my name is Xavier since you're going to be my assistant you should you know be a little formal."thank you" I said "sorry sir but when I'm I to start" well you can start today" "what seriously" he chuckled "no no I'm just kidding you can start tomorrow you take today and arrange" he said and smiled and she returned the smile and said thank you once more to him and bowed and left.he kept admiring me after I left.

Back at home I couldn't hold in my excitement anymore so I ran upstairs into my mum's room and told her the good news I went in and saw my mom asleep well it wasn't my place to wake her up, but I couldn't hold in the excitement any longer I called her out "mom ,mom" she finally woke up turn to the direction of the voice and saw that it was me and said "oh sweetie your ba…" she couldn't finish her statement "i got the job mom" all excited "what oh my God well that's a goodnews" mom said I'm happy for and proud of you"she said hugging me "congratulations" she said once more "we should celebrate?" mom asked "well not quite sure" "when are you going to start" "Tommorrow" "thats nice I shouldn't bore go,go prepare"mom said then she hugged me.

When I got to my room I called my friend ayra "hello bestie" hello you got the job?" asking curiously there was silence they I finally spoke up "yess!"what are you serious""yeah" congratulations I'm happy for you""awwwnn thank you,so tell me did you get yours" "i did" ayra said "oh my gosh that's great news" I said with excitement "right" ayra replied then we both laughed we talked for quite sometime before I hung up and went downstairs for a snack. When I saw mom making Arancini which is an Italian snack. Arancini are big golden rice balls filled with a savory combination of ingredients in the center well this time mom added lots of beef which I love and less of cheese don't get me wrong I love cheese but too much no. My mom turned and saw me then she said "come on khole you know that I can see you right"she said with a smile I returned the smile and said "im hungry mom I feel like my organs are gonna pop out" I said and gave her a little chuckle "well I am almost done dear go wait for me at the table.

At the table the snacks where set we were eating Jasmine asked "have you prepared the things you need for tommorow" "yes I have mom you I can't wait" I said. We both stayed up talking while watching a movie together when mom check the time "oh it's five already let me hurry up and prepare dinner honey"she said "dont worry mom I will make …."mom didn't let me complete my word she said "no I don't want to stress you dear you know that tommorow is your first day at work so don't stress yourself out dear I will do it ok? "I nod"yes mom" and she just smiled.

After eating I went back to my room to sleep after telling mom good night of course.Because I have a big day tomorrow yeah I met the CEO Mr Xavier himself but I still had to met the other co-workers I already made a good first time impression on Mr Xavier so I need to do the same with the other workers although I won't be mingling with them but I still had to ,this was my thoughts before she slept off.

Khloe’s POV

“Oh my God!” I exclaimed, almost tripping as I pulled on my shoes. “I can’t go late on my first day.”

I rushed down the stairs, nearly skipping two steps at once. “Mooom!” I called out, fumbling with my bag.

“Yes, honey,” my mom, Jasmine, replied from the kitchen.

“Mom, I think I’m going to be late on my first day!” I whined, sliding into the dining area. I grabbed some food quickly, stuffing it into my mouth without much grace. Then I kissed her cheek in a rush. “Goodbye, Mom! I’ll see you later.”

“Aren’t you going to sit and eat properly?” she called after me.

“No, Mom! I’ll get some snacks on the way,” I replied, already halfway out the door.

“Okay, bye then!”

I hurried outside, silently thanking God when I saw a cab approaching. At least I wouldn’t have to wait or bother booking a ride. I flagged it down and slipped inside.

“Good day,” I greeted the driver, trying to catch my breath. “Please, Diamond Rush. And if you can, be quick—I’m running late.”

“Okay,” he nodded.

By the time we got there, I paid him and practically sprinted towards the building. Two minutes early. Not ideal, but still better than being late. I reminded myself that first impressions mattered, and I didn’t want to mess mine up.

Inside, I walked straight to the reception desk. “Good morning,” I greeted.

Clara, the receptionist, looked up with a smile. “Good morning! Oh, you’re here.”

“Yes,” I said, smiling back nervously. “Uhm… is Mr. Xavier in?”

“Yes, he is. I’ll give you his schedule and explain other things you’ll need to know.” She disappeared into a back room and returned a moment later with a tablet. “Here you go. This one is meant for you—it has most of the company details. I’ve uploaded Mr. Xavier’s schedule already. You’ll be able to track his meetings, outings, and other things. The rest, you’ll get directly from him.”

“Thank you,” I said, taking it with both hands, like it was some sacred item.

With my heart racing, I made my way to his office. I paused at the door, exhaled deeply, and knocked.

“Come in,” his voice called.

I stepped in and bowed my head slightly. “Good morning, sir.”

“Yeah. Good morning,” he said without looking up at first, his pen still moving across the documents in front of him. “Not quite on time, though.” His brow rose when he finally glanced up at me.

Heat rushed to my face. Not on time? But I was two minutes early! Still, I swallowed back my protest and kept quiet. He handed the signed documents to a man standing beside him—Trevor, his father’s assistant. Trevor left with the files, and finally Xavier gave me his full attention.

“I assume Clara gave you the schedule,” he said, his tone clipped but clear.

“Yes, sir. But she mentioned you’d explain the rest.”

He leaned back slightly. “Okay. I have a meeting by ten a.m. with the owner of those documents. My father was supposed to complete the deal, but something came up, so it falls to me. You’ll come along—you’re my assistant now, so you’ll be in the loop from the start. I’ve already instructed them to prepare a table in the other room. You’ll sit there; sometimes you may be moved here.” He waved his hand casually, as though the decision wasn’t life-changing for me. “That’s all, for now.”

“Okay, sir,” I replied softly.

For the first time since I entered, I noticed his eyes pause on me, lingering briefly on my floral blouse and black skirt. His expression was unreadable, and I wasn’t sure whether to feel flattered or uncomfortable. I quickly excused myself and stepped out.

Breathing out a sigh of relief, I walked until I saw the office space prepared for me. They’d set it up quickly—a neat desk, some drawers, and a phone. I smiled to myself, thanking God silently before I arranged my things.

Just as I was finishing, a knock sounded.

“Come in,” I called.

Clara popped her head in with a grin. “Hey, your office looks really nice.”

“Yeah, thank you,” I said, smiling.

“Oh! Almost forgot—these documents just came in for Mr. Xavier. Since you’re his personal assistant, you should pass them to him.”

“Of course, I will. Thank you,” I said, accepting the papers.

“I think we’ll get along quite well,” she chuckled.

“Yes, I think so too,” I replied.

“Okay then, I’ll leave you to it. Bye!”

“Bye, and thank you.”

I walked back to Xavier’s office, documents in hand, and knocked again.

“Who is it?” he called.

“It’s me, sir. Khloe.”

“Come in.”

I stepped inside. “Sir, Clara asked me to give you these documents—they came in earlier.”

He took them and flipped through with a sigh. “I’ll go through them later. Likely the remaining parts of the ones I signed. Thank you.”

I nodded and was about to leave when his voice stopped me.

“Erm… sorry.”

I turned back. “Sir?”

He studied me with one brow raised. “How do you see your office? Is it okay to your taste?”

“Yes, sir, it’s really nice,” I replied truthfully.

“As my assistant, you’ll have to be comfortable. There’s a telephone there, right?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Good. I’ll communicate with you through it. That will be all.”

“Okay, sir.”

I returned to my desk, exhaled, and pulled out my phone. I dialed Ayra.

“Hello, Ayra!”

“Hey, sup baby girl!” she replied, her voice instantly bright.

“Fine. How’s your first day going?” I asked.

“Not so good. My boss is a nightmare—arrogant, bossy, sassy, you name it. Finds fault in everything I do.”

I laughed softly. “Oh, sorry. Well… my boss isn’t arrogant. At least not yet. He’s been polite, and people here seem fine with his aura. I guess he’s… nice, so far.”

“Lucky you. I hope mine loosens up. Anyway, talk later, babe. Love you.”

“Love you too,” I said, ending the call.

Leaning back in my chair, I finally allowed myself a smile. Maybe this wouldn’t be as bad as I feared.

Xavier's POV

Mr Xavier and I are seen sitting beside a big round table Mr Carlos is here to formalise the deal properly "I sent some documents to your Dad to sign I guess he gave it to you then" "yes Mr Carlos that's why you're here right to formalise it properly"Mr Xavier asked "exactly I wanted to sign the deal with your dad since he sent it to you we should proceed then I would love to partner with the DIAMOND RUSH company it will benefit both our company's greatly you went through the other files I sent that's means you saw my proposal" Xavier just sat back listening to Mr Carlos and then he also said "yes Mr Carlos I'm aware of the benefits of our company partnering with your company and I also went through the other files that were sent" he slowly raised his body and said "so with your consent shall we sign the deal then Mr Carlos? He said raising a brow "sure you've sign the other halves remaining these ones" he signal to his assistant who was standing beside to get the other documents which he did and handed it over to him "here sir" Mr Carlos took the document and handed to Xavier who took it and went through it before he signed.

Well both parties signed the agreement when they where done they stood up and shook hands "the deal is sealed" Mr Carlos said with a smile almost a chuckle he always wanted to sign a deal with the DIAMOND RUSH company and now he just did "yes Mr Carlos and thank you very much" he said as Mr Carlos was about to leave "thank you too"mr Carlos said and left.

After everything Mr Xavier and I both went out to our various office when Xavier called me "Miss khole" he said moving a bit towards me when I turned "yes sir" I answered,now by my side he said we have a meeting later on by 4 pm before that you will be following me to go see the construction site and also my dad to tell him how the deal went today mmm" "okay sir are we leaving now? "yes the car is out waiting for us shall we? "sure sir let me just go get my things I will be out" "okay don't waste too much time then" he said and left I watched as he leave before I went to my office and carried my bag and other things and went out to met Xavier. When I went out there was a car waiting for her with Xavier already inside she was about to open the front when he stopped her and told her to get in the back sit with him "no you sit in the back with me" "oh I'm sorry" I said and got in and we drove off.

In the car Xavier was taking a glance of me well I didn't quite see him but he did then he scoffed we will first go over to my dad's side before heading to the site he said looking at her "sure anything you say sir but can I ask why the change tho" "well I just figured that going over to my dad's will be more appropriate since we just finished finalising the deal with me Carlos" "do you always meet with your dad after every deal you sign sir? Well the question came with a quite shock for Mr Xavier cause he wasn't expecting such from me but something made him find the question okay even though if it were to be someone else he would have just waved at it but he still answered "not exactly where I work is my own branch that means I run the business over here he only oversees it and Mr Carlos he brought for me sign the deal with he isnt doing too well at the moment so it would be nice and also show a sign of respect towards him that I did not call but went over to talk about the finalised deal does that answer your question? I could only nod then said "yes sir" he nod back and looked out the window.

After driving for some minutes we finally got to Mr Xavier's Dad's house Mr Williams the car stopped in front of the house and the driver came out and held the door for Mr Xavier and I, then we got out and he closed the door then Xavier took me into his father's mansion when we got in I looked around and was amazed by the house setting it was something really nice the way the place was nicely arranged decorated and the furnitures were really classy the entire house setting was that of a classy royal movie home I guess then Xavier spoke up after letting me fill my eyes "you will wait down here for me while I go see my dad you can sit I will order the helpers to get you something to drink" he said then call "marie marie" "yes sir Marie said coming out of the kitchen "yes sir" "yes please get her something to drink" he turned to me who was looking at them then said "what would you like? "a cold apple juice will do" I said he just looked at her and gave a little smile "okay then get her the apple juice" "okay sir" Marie said and went to get the drink. As Xavier was about climbing the stairs he saw his dad assistant Trevor coming down "good day sir" " yes Trevor is Mr Williams in" he asked "you mean your dad right he is in he has been asking of you to know how the deal went I was about going over to call you" "yes it is done I will go see him then" he said and went up he got to his dad room and greeted "Good afternoon dad" "ah son" Mr Williams said and stood up to hug him "its good to see you dear how have you been" "fine dad I thought you weren't doing well? It's nothing when it comes to me seeing you Xavier i'm happy to see my son" "okay dad sit okay" "okay so tell me how did the deal go did you seal the deal with Mr Carlos" Mr Williams asked looking for answers immediately "i knew you would ask me he"said arranging his jacket "you know me dad I did" do you have to be dramatic about it" his dad said and they both laughed "it's good to have you around" Mr Williams said "yeah have you find the assistant you said you were looking for one earlier" "yes I did" "is the person worth it" "yes we will get along fine" "oh good to hear" "yeah and we will be going to see the site today so dad" he said getting up "i'll be on my way we need to go and finalise a deal also" "a deal? With whom are you signing a deal" "well a lady this time around" "a lady? "yes a difference for a change her name is Miss viana" "oh I see okay then I don't want to be the reason you will be late then get going" "i will dad he hugged him and take care" then he left on his way down the stairs he called "okay khole we will be going now "okay" I stood up and we both went out we got into the car and drove off we stopped at a restaurant and we both came out of the car and went inside the restaurant it's one of the most famous restaurant around there there was a VIP reservation for them the lady they were to meet booked it the waiter took them to their table there the woman was sitting waiting for their arrival "Good day miss viana"Xavier greeted which she replied "Good day nice meeting you she said "this is my assistant khole" "Good day ma" I greeted said with her head bowed "good day I didn't know you had an assistant? They chuckled "shall we" pointing to the chair "yeah" they sat and talked about the deal and then it was time to finalise it she signed and also did Mr Xavier they both shakes hands and departed their both ways. "we shall be heading to the site before it gets dark" he said and hurried into the car she had no option but to do as he says she followed him into the car. They got to the site and surveyed the place and took some photos by the time they were done it was already 8 pm so he insisted on taking me home "I insist it late I will drive you home where do you stay? He asked looking at me "I stay at 43 Bruno street" "okay I will take you there come on get in" she hesitated a little before getting in. First day at work and my boss is already driving me home well my house is a Minutes drive at least I should be grateful that my boss cares we arrived at my place after the 45 minutes drive I came out and thanked him "thank you very much sir" I said "it nothing as my personal assistant I don't think you should be going home alone I will see what I can do so for now take care and goodnight" "goodnight sir" I said and he drove off.
