The sound of the rain echoed in the vacancy.
As if silence shut out all the sounds, only rain was allowed to scream and cry.
Covering people, so they can cry, making sounds so they can laugh.
Making small attempts to wash away the grief life carries in itself.
Rain, happiness for the optimistic.
Rain, Comfort to the pessimistic.
A girl in her twenties sitting near the window.
With a cup of coffee in her hands, her face emotionless. Her posture voice out her burden.
A small kind, tired voice jolts her out of her thoughts.

The girl puts the cup down and turn around.
I looked at my mama. For the first time in ages I really look at her.
My voice caught In my throats, My guilt and regret, the silent rage. I feel it all growing.
And crushing down on me, all at once.
My eyes burn with unshed tears.
I take a shaking breath, making a pained face and lie like I always do.

As the lie effortlessly left my lips. I see my mom making a worried face. In seconds, she steps forward taking me in a comforting hug.

Saying in a worried voice, "Tia baby, you go lay on the bed. I will bring you some headache medicine."

Saying that she steps back, only to lift her hand to my head and Saying, "It doesn’t feel like you have fever. Baby lay down mama will be right back."
I see her walk away hurriedly, my face fall, tears gushed down my face. She believed my lie like she always did.
It reminded of a not so savory past.
A loud voice Interrupted the quietness of the surrounding.
A loud thud echoed in the surrounding as Cynthia pushed the chair violently.

Say in a scared voice, face covered in tears, "Tia-"

Hearing those words Angel broke down in tears in front of her daughter eyes, her shaking voice. It hurted angel, it broke her soul.

She tried to clam herself with shaking voice, she muttered with teary eyes,"I am sorry baby, please don't go."

Angel lower herself begging her child, with tears. She can't handle this situation. She can't handle her past repeating once again.
She can't see it happening all over again.
The sound of my mom feets brought me out of a memory wrapped in guilt.
I walked to the bed and sat down.
My mama came with medicine and water in her hands.
I took the medicine pretending as if I had a headache, but I knew the only thing hurting me was my aching heart, My screaming soul.
My mom pulled me in a hug.
Saying incoherent words, messaging my head.
In my head I stood in front of a mountain. I screamed loudly. I cried and screamed as If the world has ended.
Away from the eyes of the watching world.
The scene Changes once again.
To the familiar living room. To the familiar fight, my mother crying.
As my father feigned ignorance.
The scene which repeats in a loop for the past 20 years of my life.
His eyes on the TV, the voice of the news and my mother pleas echoed in the living room.

I look at my father, his face devoid of emotions as if my mom is invisible. As if her tears aren't worthy.

Her face breaking in tears, her body shaking slowly. She looks tired.
My thoughts spiral out of control, my mom's grown old.
She is beautiful everyone says she is pretty, but my mom says beauty doesn't help if your destiny is written to Suffer in hell.

I feel myself breaking like always my eyes dared to my father.

The screams filled our house. The loud voices of my uncles accusing my dad.
Of how cold-blooded he is, of how much of a liar he is.
It hurts as much as I hurt and hate when my mom is hurt.
My dad never physically abused my mom.
I remember vaguely the last time he beat someone, it was my older brother.
It was long ago, when I was very young about 12 years old.
I did mostly save my brothers by coming in front of them and dad but that day.
My brother behaved rudely with my mom, because he wanted to go clubbing with his friends.
My 19 years old brother, but dad never allowed clubbing or joining such gathering.
So he fought with mom first and when dad came from his evening stroll. He started misbehaving with dad as well.
Which lead to a big fight. I was crying, mom was crying, and my second brother was crying.
My sister wasn't home, she had academy it was evening.
My dad took hold of my brother's wrist, forcefully lead him to a room and closed the door.
And started beating him. After what felt like ages. He came outside and said to mom in a gruff and tired voice,

My dad and brother, when we are all together. Would joke about it. He says the reason why after that day, he never beat brother is because on that day.

I heard his words, I was outside with my second-oldest brother. While everyone else was inside.

Either my dad is too kind, too dumb or is like the fl in a toxic relationship with her ex.
After he leaves, I hear my sister and mom and brother trying to clam down my dad.
I look at my brother, and we shared the same tired look, how long will this fight last a week or maybe for a few months.
The most true answer, until he needs my dad's help again.

A Chance
After my university classes completed. I made my way towards the bus stop.
In head, I think of a family completely different from my own. I think of a world set in a novel I read yesterday.
I think of parents, who are in love. As stand on the edge of the crosswalk.
The buzz of the light brought me out of my fantasy.
It was the middle of the day, but it wasn't crowded like usual.
I walked as I laugh thinking of a fun scenario in my head.
Then, I could call process what happened.
I found myself on the ground, it took me moments to understand I felt pain gut wrenching pain.
I taste a metallic flavour in my head, it took me a moment to find out my body was hurting and all I felt was pain and blood.

I opened my out to whisper in a small painful voice, "M...Mom it hurts."
And as if someone switched off the light, I felt darkness as my consciousness faded.
When I opened my eyes I wasn't in a hospital bed.
But I was floating in air, I thought it should be hurting, but my body felt light.
I was wearing a white dress, I looked around. I was standing on water but I felt nothing.
I didn't feel the wetness of water nor I heard a sound.

I spoke out loud in a confused voice, "Hello anyone here."
But nothing happened, I expected my voice to echo, but I heard no echo-
Then a blinding light made me shut my eyes.
Then I heard a voice loud and authoritative.
"OPEN YOUR EYES, AND THROUGH THE PORTAL HUMAN."
As of my body moved on its own I opened my eyes to see the surrounding changed it beautiful hues.
I couldn't help but marvel at the beauty, but remembering what the voice said I moved and let the portal engulf me.
I opened my eyes to see what screams money, power and luxury.
Not only that, but I couldn't help but think, have I transmigrated into a rich person.
