Chapter One: Ashes of a Broken World
The sky above the village burned with a violent, unnatural light—a roiling sea of crimson clouds
smeared with streaks of black smoke. It was as if the heavens themselves had ignited in fury,
reflecting the devastation below. The once vibrant village, nestled among ancient oaks and
flowing streams, lay in ruin, smothered beneath layers of ash and flame.
Temperu stood at the edge of the destruction, his breath ragged and uneven, the world around
him feeling surreal and distant. His small frame was coated in soot, his clothes torn and singed.
The familiar scents of home—the sweet smell of his mother’s cooking, the fresh earth of the
garden—were replaced by the acrid stench of burning wood and scorched flesh.
The ground beneath his boots was littered with broken shards of what had been: shattered
pottery, splintered wood, a lone doll’s arm curled in the dirt. The flickering orange glow of dying
embers painted ghostly shadows across the ruins, whispering secrets of the night’s carnage.
His heart throbbed painfully, a heavy, relentless ache that pulsed with every breath. The images
haunted him—searing bright and brutal like a brand burned into his memory.
He had been in the woods gathering herbs when the sky cracked open with screams. He
remembered the frantic dash back, the frantic pounding of his heart as the village came into
view. Smoke billowed from the rooftops, and the air was thick with cries of despair.
And then—the Monarch of Incineration.
A figure cloaked in flames and shadow, the Monarch had swept through the village like a living
inferno, his merciless laughter drowning out the screams. His eyes glowed with a terrifying
intensity, cold and unyielding as the fires he commanded.
Temperu had watched in horror as the Monarch approached his parents’ cottage, a cruel smile
curling on his lips. His father had stood tall, fists clenched in defiance, while his mother clutched
a wooden sword, her hands trembling but resolute.
But it was no match.
With a wave of his hand, the Monarch unleashed a torrent of fire that engulfed the home in an
instant. Temperu had screamed, trying to break through the chaos, but soldiers loyal to the
Monarch had blocked his path. When at last he reached the smoldering wreckage, his parents
lay cold and still, their lives stolen like embers snuffed out too soon.
“No… no!” Temperu fell to his knees, tears carving paths through the grime on his cheeks. The
world felt as though it had shattered, every hope reduced to ash.
And yet, amid the overwhelming despair, something inside him stirred.
A strange sensation blossomed in his chest—a warmth that spread like a pulse of light through
his veins. His vision blurred, then sharpened, as shimmering glyphs and symbols flickered
before his eyes, superimposed over the ruined landscape.

The words glowed softly, like a promise whispered in the depths of night.
Temperu’s trembling hands reached out as if to grasp the intangible, the reality of the skills
sinking deep into his mind. Confusion warred with hope. What was this power? Why had it come
to him?
But there was no time to ponder. The fire in his heart flared into a blazing inferno—a burning
need for justice, for retribution, for a chance to make the world right again.
He rose slowly to his feet, every muscle aching, every breath a struggle. His gaze swept over
the village once more—the ruins, the fallen, the silence that screamed in his ears.
He would not let this be the end.
With the ghostly glow of his new skills illuminating his path, Temperu took a step forward, then
another. The road ahead was shadowed and uncertain, fraught with peril and pain. But he would
walk it. He had no choice.
“This is my curse. And my gift,” he whispered, voice trembling but fierce. “I will become stronger
than any blade… sharper than any shadow. I will become the Skillsmith of vengeance, and I will
bring the Monarch of Incineration to his knees.”
A cold wind swept through the charred remains of the village, lifting ash like snowflakes swirling
in a storm. The flames died down, but the fire inside Temperu only grew brighter—a beacon
born of loss and fury, destined to ignite a path of reckoning.
From the ashes of his broken world, a legend would rise. And his story was only beginning.
