It was an extremely hot day, even though summer had ended.
Akari
POV: Honestly, It doesn't even matter to me anymore.
Akari's father had unfortunately passed away a few months before the start of school.
Akari
POV: I wish I could just move on...not forget, just feel less pain and dread.
The day she found out her father had colon cancer, she locked herself in her room, didn't eat, and barely drank any water. She cried so much, her eyes were as red and puffy as a tomato.
When her father eventually passed away after 2 years of chemotherapy, her mother was so devastated, she started drinking. She took out all her anger and sadness on her two daughters; Akari and Ichika. Ichika was only 8 at the time, when her mother started abusing both of them.
Akari
POV: Do I even want to go to school?
Akari
POV: How am I supposed to hide the scars on my hand?
Akari
POV: I really don't want people finding out about my screwed up and depressing life.
Akari
POV: All I have to do is wait a year, and I can finally live alone.
Akari
POV: Of course, I'm taking Ichika with me.
Akari
POV: She's the only person who still loves me, and I'm definitely not leaving her with- mom? No. She doesn't deserve to be called that. I'll call her by her first name from now on. She's no longer the beloved and sweet mother I used to have. She's not the same person.

POV: I miss you dad.
Where's my class?!
Ichika
You don't wanna wake mom up, do you?
