The gentle tune of the alarm cut through the early morning silence in the room. The man on the silk sheets draped under the blanket woke up with a soft groan.
After stretching his arms, he got up and walked to the bathroom to freshen up only to find that something wasn't right.
He was now fully awake. He was wearing a silk pajama, standing in the middle of a bathroom three times bigger than the one in his one-room flat.
Where am I?
He began looking around and then heard a small 'ding' like a notification.
[Hello Host, I am the System. You have been transmigrated into a novel.]
A novel?
Oh?
Oh!
Now he remembered. He was reading a novel, where the protagonist was treated badly by the one whom he loved and later driven to insanity and ultimately to an untimely death.
[You are free to work this out as you like. There are no restrictions except to not let anyone know about your reality or there could be extreme dangers.]
"Okay. Got it. Thank you."
[The novel has been downloaded on your phone for reference. Have a good time Host. Goodbye.]
There was that same 'ding' sound and then the haze was cleared out.
August quickly gathered himself. Though it was his first time being transmigrated into a novel, he wasn't afraid.
In his previous life, he was a police officer. And the reason of his death was very noble and everyone felt bad for his death. He was on the Captain of his team, leading them to free up 20 children from the human trafficking racket.
He saved all the children and when they were about leave, he realized that three of his teammates had been held by the racket members.
He quickly jumped in and started fighting and firing simultaneously. Once his mates were free, they were all running when he was shot in his chest from the back and the bullet has passed his heart.
He died on spot, no lingering, no struggling. His death turned out to be the biggest lost of the Police Team.
Where they should have been celebrating the freedom of the 20 children, the entire city was plunged into sorrow mourning the death of their beloved officer who was not only brave and smart, but also very kind and generous.
August loved children a lot, and it was known throughout the city. He was always present at any kids' activities which needed police protection. Not just that, he actively participated in programs where they especially invited him knowing his love for the children. And children took a liking to him as well.
In this new life, he was living the original owner's life. And he would do justice by him no matter what.
So the first thing he decided to do was divorce the asshole of his husband and move out.
Call it a co-incidence or a gift of fate, the original owner was a teacher at the kid's school and nursery. And given August's love for kids, he decided to continue the job. It paid him well and most importantly, he loved his job.
He walked out of the bathroom and changed into a gym clothes. He picked up a towel and wrapped around his neck and then out of the room.
He walked into the kitchen, filled up a water bottle and then came to the living room. He changed into running shoes, put his ear pods on, turned on the music and then left the house.
August, as the special forces team's Captain, was very strict with his daily routine, which included running, push-ups and so on. A whole two hours of workout routine was set for him. Then he would move on to the team's training.
And now, he decided to continue it here as well. He ran for good 7 miles and then back to home.
As he entered the house wiping the sweat on his face and neck, his shirt was sticking to his body showing his well toned body.
Yes, the original owner also believed in having good health routine, so it wasn't a shock.
August had liked this protagonist because they had so many things similar between them. They even shared the same names. August mentally smiled.
He looked up and saw his husband looking at him with a visible shock on his face.
"Are you done drooling?" August asked with an indifferent tone causing the so-called husband to be more shocked.
The person just scoffed and was about to leave when August decided to stop him and put his plan in action.
"Finn, I want a divorce." August spoke making the man stop in his tracks.
Finn slowly turned back to face his husband and looked at him with confusion on his face.
"What did you say?" Finn asked him, his initial shock wasn't really gone, and now his silly husband of his had shocked him for the second time.
"I said I want a divorce. Get the documents ready by tomorrow and leave them on the dinning table. I will sign them and then send them to your office. The sooner this happens the better. Then you can live happily with your lover." August spoke without any sign of hurt or depression.
His words with an indifferent attitude really stunned his husband. Finn opened his mouth to speak when August raised his hand and stopped him.
"One more thing, I will be moving out of this place by tomorrow. Also, I don't need any alimony or support or whatever the fuck they do after the divorce. Instead, I will need you to pay for the cost of the apartment I will find by tonight. I haven't checked any apartments or prices yet, I will let you know soon as possible. That will be it. You can continue whatever that you were doing." August put forward his conditions and left without looking back.
Finn, on the other hand, stood there, shocked and stunned. He didn't know what happened, and it took him a second to understand that his usually quiet and meek husband had actually asked him for a divorce.
"Master, breakfast is ready." One of the maids reminded him, bringing him back to the present.
"Yeah, set it up." He ordered and left to go to his room to change.
Meanwhile,
August quickly showered and changed into brown pants, a dark green turtle-neck with a brown trench coat. He wore his shoes and then came down for breakfast with his bag.
Fin was at the table having breakfast. He was once again stunned by the way August had dressed up. But this time it wasn't just him. It was all the maids and the servants too.
August didn't mind and had his breakfast quietly. Once he was done, he looked up at his soon-to-be ex-husband and smiled.
"Don't forget about the divorce papers." He reminded Finn and then left the house.
Once he was out and in his car, only then he relaxed.
"Fuck, it was so hard." He cursed, but then his lips curled, and a small smile graced his lips.
"My little kittens and puppies, your guardian angel is on the way." August smiled and drove away.
At K&K Headquarters :
A man dressed in an expensive Armani, a limited edition Rolex on the wrist and shiny black shoes, sat at the head of the table going through the pages of the project that was being presented.
But his expression kept getting worst as he kept turning pages. His jaw clenched. He looked up slowly at the man presenting.
The two men on his right and left also noticed the problem, their reaction was the same as the first one.
No one else noticed the problem, except the man at the end of the table, who was the partner-in-crime of the one presenting.
What in the world were they even thinking before bringing such a project to the table?!
That too in front of the Kane brothers. Basically the royalty in the world of Finance and Real Estates!
The man sitting at the head of the table simply folded the folder and then lit it up with his lighter. Several gasps were heard in the room and the one presenting stopped.q
Once the raging flames were up to the top, he dropped it in the bin next to the wall, then looked up and clapped.
Shivers went down the spines of every single member sitting in the conference room. Everyone visibly straightened up.
"Keep presenting. Go ahead." The man said and leaned back in his chair.
Silence shrouded the room. It was so chilly in the room, that people almost held their breaths, in the fear of making a sound and being the one getting killed.
"Was this property checked thoroughly? Were there any problems? Was it given a go from the environmental office? What about the green belt? What information do you have on the owners?" The man asked and he was answered in silence.
Just when he was about to snap, the door opened.
"Daddy, Daddy," came a sweet voice of the fluff ball running in and jumping straight into his Daddy's arms.
"Careful, love." The man's voice softened as he held the boy in his arms and kissed his head.
"Get it fixed by tomorrow. Meeting adjourned." The man stood up with the boy in his arms and left the room.
The two men followed him as well. No one said a word until they were in the office.
"Alright, what is my Bunny doing here? No school today?" Asked one of the two men.
"Uncle Declan, I missed Daddy, so I came here to give him a kiss." The little boy spoke and then held his Dad's face in his tiny hands and placed a kiss on his nose tip.
"Daddy, you do the same." The boy demanded, and all three men chuckled.
The man holding him also placed a kiss on the little one's nose tip and then leaned his forehead onto the boy's.
"Daddy missed you too, my love. But Daddy's got work, right? And my baby doesn't wake up so early. I wish you can sleep more as you are still little and young." The man coaxed his little one.
"Come on, let's all go drop our baby to school." Declan suggested, and the others agreed.
"Mase, you wanna drive?" Declan asked and threw his keys to the other man.
"Cool, why not? Let's go drop our baby to work." Mase replied, and all of them left together.

At The Little Angels School & Nursery:
August had just reached the school. He parked his car and got out. Once he left the parking, a little boy came running and hugged his leg.
"Mr. Sage, good morning." The boy smiled, looking up at him.
August's heart skipped a beat, and he felt overwhelmed as the memories from his past life came flooding in. His memories about this little one also became clear to him.
August lifted him up in one hand as his other hand held his bag and coffee.
"Hello there, good morning to you. But what have I taught you, little monster?" August fake scolded the little boy who pouted, and then his eyes turned red.
"Oh, these tears and this cute little pout works on me. Fine. No scolding today, but no running again. Understood?" August was almost about to cry himself.
"Mm hm. No running again. Pawmise." The boy said softly and August chuckled.
"God, why are you so cute? Did you come alone? Where's your nanny?" He asked and suddenly he heard a deep voice.
"Good morning, Mr. Sage." The man greeted him and August turned around to greet him back.
"Morning, you are?" He questioned, a little frown forming on his face.
"Mr. Sage, he is my Dad, Cal - um- Cal, it's too hard." The little boy lowered his head with a pout.
"Callahan Kane." The man answered and August gave him a nod.
"August Sage. I'm his homeroom teacher. He's with me for most of the day and also my favorite boy. What do you say, sweetheart?" August asked the little one who nodded.
"I am. And Mr. Sage is my favorite Daddy." The boy answered getting excited again.
"Alright then, are you picking him up later?" August questioned, and the three men looked at him as if he'd asked for their property.
"Dax has a nanny who picks him up, I guess." Declan answered August and the latter frowned.
"Take my advice, and fire that nanny. I don't remember a single day when she was on time to pick him up. There were times, when I was the one to drop your son home, and only then we saw her leaving the house. As to what she was doing or does, that's your problem. Now, if you excuse us both." August explained and excused himself.
"Oh, it was nice meeting you, Cal. We'll keep it short." August said with a wink and then both teacher and his favorite student turned to leave.
Callahan, Declan and Mase stood there and watched as the duo laughed and talked while leaving until they were out of sight.
Callahan put his sunglasses on and then dialed a number.
"The nanny is fired. Pay her for one month and then blacklist her. Also find me details on August Sage." Callahan ordered, and then hung.
"Do we keep an eye on him? I don't think he's any kind of harm to Dax or us." Declan was the one to break the spell of silence.
"And Dax likes him. He clearly loves children. I agree with Dec." Mase agreed with his brother.
"I know. I feel the same. But after... I don't want to take any risk." Callahan admitted and then shared a look with his brothers.
"We agree. Do your checks then. Let us know. Till then, I will ask my men to keep an eye on him." Declan answered and Mase gave a nod.
Callahan looked in the way of the school before driving out of the school campus.
It was almost 12 Noon and everybody was going home. August finished packing his teaching materials and was cleaning the board.
There was a knock on the door and August turned his head to look over. Callahan Kane stood there leaning against the door in all his glory.
August felt his heart skip a beat. He just smiled and then looked at Dax who looked like he was busy coloring pictures.
"Hey, Daddy's here to pick you." August told the boy, but he also noticed the slight redness on his cheeks.
"Mr. Sage, I don't feel well." Dax pouted and had tears in his big doe eyes.
August frowned. He touched the boy's face, and it was burning.
"Cal, come in here quick. Gather his things for me, will you?" August asked and Callahan raised his eyebrow but did as told.
"Alright, my sweet boy, look at me." August tried to wipe his tears and kissed his cheek.
"Daddy's here, okay? I will go with you to the doctor, yeah? We will get you medicine, and you will feel well. Is that okay, honey?" August spoke very softly and looking at the little one's red face, Callahan's eyes darkened.
"What's wrong with Dax?" He asked, but he didn't get any reply, but he continued to walk behind the duo.
"He's having fever, somehow. I'm not a doctor, so I don't know why. But he looks like he's in pain as well. Probably stomach ache. Get your car, I'll carry him. I doubt he'll even let you touch him right now. My poor baby." August explained and then cradled Dax's head between his neck and shoulders and then grabbed his own bag on the way.
Callahan walked ahead and opened the door for the duo. August sat in the back, Dax now on his lap. Callahan immediately dialed his brother's number.
"Cal, what's wrong? Didn't you go to pick up our baby?" Declan asked.
"Go to the hospital, and ask Jake to hold that Nanny down, don't let her go. Dax is not well. We're taking him to the hospital. Inform Mase and be there." Cal spoke hurriedly and then hung up.
"Cal, do you think the Nanny…?" August asked, but his eyes never left the boy in his lap.
"I'm not sure… But if she's done anything, then I promise I won't spare her. Don't worry." Cal spoke calmly, but only he knew that he was on the verge of setting the whole world on fire.
Callahan had married a girl which his parents had arranged. It was a business transaction. But who knew, she was planning to rob them, and run away.
Dax was 2 days old when that irresponsible woman left him all by himself in the hospital room and ran away without any care. The hospital gave Callahan a call and informed them.
Of course, they were raging with anger. But the baby was more important. But soon after the baby turned two, the woman came back demanding for custody in hope of trying to drain the Kane brothers of some money.
Callahan straightaway divorced her and given the situation, even the court didn't bother listening to her false pretense.
Which is also why the brothers never married and divided the work between themselves while one of them stayed back home to care for the little peanut.
Back To Present.....
The car stopped and Cal got out and opened the door for August, who got out with the little one in his arms.
He saw Mase and Declan, but didn't bother sparring a second glance. His eyes were red and glistening and his jaw clenched.
"Get me Dr. Rachel, the pediatric consultant." He barked at the junior doctor who was looking at the four men who had brought the baby with them.
"O-Okay," He said and ran.
Meanwhile, August found an empty bed and laid Dax carefully on the bed, while carefully taking out his shoes and the small jumper he was wearing.
The boy's face twitched. August frowned. He caressed the boy's face with his knuckles.
"Hey, look at me honey." He said softly, and the boy turned on his side facing him and clutching his tummy.
"H-hurts" he sobbed silently while big drops of tears flowed down his cheeks.
"I'm sorry, so, so, sorry baby. But it won't be long, yeah? The doctor lady will quickly check you and give you medicine for your boo boo, okay?" He coaxed the little boy, but his own heart was in some need to coax.
"August, darling when did you have a baby?" The doctor, ran to him with wide eyes.
"Can you please check up on him, pretty quick. Also, although I'd love to be a father someday, that day isn't any closer. He's the father and them, uncles. I'm his homeroom teacher." He explained while the doctor started her check.
"He's got fever, 39° for now. Did he say he was in pain?" Dr. Rachel questioned and August nodded.
"His tummy, he is clutching his tummy. Do you think it could be food poisoning?" August asked, and he heard three different sharp intakes of breaths.
"Possibly. Hold him, I will inject some pain meds for now, and then we will check him. He's too little to bear that much pain." Rachel frowned and sighed looking at the little boy.
"Okay, I will hold him. You can continue." August said, and he immediately picked up Dax in his arms.
Dax buried himself in August's chest while Dr. Rachel held his hand for inserting an IV line.
"You're okay baby, I won't let them hurt you, yeah. Just a little pinch okay, sweetheart." August held his head close to his chest with one hand and other around his body.
As soon as the doctor inserted the needle in his tiny hands, the boy screamed, but August held him tight.
"It's okay, honey. It's all going to be fine soon. Come on, aren't you my big boy? Big boys don't cry. Big boys are strong." He kept talking to the little one who instantly stopped crying.
Meanwhile, all the three brothers had a very bad look on their face. They observed the way August held their baby, coaxed him, talked to him sweetly. All three had tears in their eyes, especially Callahan.
Nobody had noticed that he had trembled and Declan had held his hand tightly assuring him. Mase was fuming, but he knew better.
"All done, August, this medicine will go on for a while." Rachel said and the next second, Dax vomited all over August's chest.
"Okay, okay, baby, it's fine. Don't be scared." August spoke again, his own tears flowing now.
"What did you give him? Why is he vomiting?" Callahan snapped finally losing his temper.
"Sir, we have only given him pain meds. Fever, stomach-ache, diarrhea and vomiting are signs for food poisoning. I was only praying that it won't be, but now it's confirmed. Don't worry, we will treat him for that now. Rest assured." Rachel calmly explained with a smile.
"I understand it's hard, but you're lucky, you have August here today. He's always here one or two times with children from his school. Don't worry, it's all okay. Your boy is really very strong." She added further.
Meanwhile, August had wiped Dax's face and placed him on the bed. He took off his turtle-neck which left him in a plain loose white shirt underneath.
"Cal, is it possible to get him some clothes? He'll catch cold or else." August asked even without looking at the person he was talking to.
It all felt very natural to all four them. Declan bit his lip to avoid smiling.
"Mase, you stay here. I will go get some from my car. I always keep a pair there just in case." And he ran away.
August took a few wipes and tissues and wiped his shoes off and his pants. Some cleaning staff hurried over and cleaned the floor and others changed the sheets on the bed.
Declan was very quick. "Here, can I help?" He asked and August gave a nod.
"I will hold him up. Careful of that IV line. It will be trouble to get another one in if that comes out." He reminded and Declan made sure not to touch it.
Just then August's phone rang. It answered without looking.
"August Sage speaking... Sorry who?.. Yes, I don't need any alimony. I've made it clear to him already. He's just supposed to pay for the apartment I will buy. That's all. Don't listen to his nonsense. I've had enough. I should've left him long ago, but who knows you go dumb when you fall in love. Furthermore, I'm even surprised myself, that I once loved him... That's fine, I just want to get out of that whatever thing it is, and then he can do whatever that little bitch boy of his…. No worries. Thanks, Andy… I will see you soon, yeah." And then he hung up.
"I'm guessing he's asleep. The pain meds also have sedative properties which help patients to relax. He needs this rest. I have some work to do, I won't be staying, although I really want to be there when he wakes up. I will apply for a week's leave. Let him rest properly." He explained to the three who nodded.
"Thanks a lot, Mr. Sage. It really means a lot. Dax is like our own son for both of us even though he's Cal's. His birth and the days after weren't easy, so we are always cautious with him. Don't know how." Declan stopped and looked at the little boy.
"That's fine. It happens. You can be 100% sure of anything. But don't let that nanny go off easily. And henceforth, keep an eye on his food. He's still small and growing up. He doesn't understand what's good and bad for him. Also, is it okay, if I visit him tomorrow morning before I leave for school. My heart won't be at ease without knowing if he's doing fine. I won't stay for long, just make sure he's okay. Of course, if you guys don't mind." August looked at the three in an unsure gaze.
"You won't be a bother. You can visit tomorrow morning. Here's our contact. Give us a call once you're there. Thanks again, it means a lot." Callahan spoke up this time.
"Anything for the little bean. See you then, kiss him for me when he wakes up." And then August left.
While the dad and the uncles gathered around their baby with teary eyes and heavy hearts.
