Tap. Tap. Tap. Bleu hit his shovel against the pavement. His black hoodie was starting to strangle him and it started to itch. He knew he had to show up in the same clothes or he wouldn't be recognized as the depressed Bleu, the one who is always emotionless, the one who always has plans to do, the one who always wears girl accessories and the one who always carries his shovel.
Now don't get me wrong. Bleu does all of those but, honestly, what's worse than an itchy hoodie? I'll tell you what. No life. Yes, you heard me. Bleu has no life. He was just sent down to plant as many blueberries as he can. That's all he has to do. But he had to fail at his one job. He failed more than 300,000 times because of distractions. In Bleu's words: "morons". What he means is, his friends.
Bleu surprisingly has a lot of friends, they all appreciate and are aware of his Emo side. Bleu's friends always throw a little party every two weeks for no reason. Bleu HATES socializing. He would do anything to dodge it. Your probably wondering how he got friends in the first place. Well it's quite long and I can tell you later on but right now Bleu's on his way to a party looking like sh*t. Let's hear some more...
Bleu combed his hair with his fingers and looked down at his Jordan's that Kail gave him. Very generous, but if you give them to this guy, you're begging to get them spoiled. Bleu already had scratches, creases, mud and blueberry juice all over them. He didn't understand the respect they needed. Reluctantly, he crossed the road to the other side of the neighborhood. The darker part.
Bleu liked it here. Back in the lighter part of town, there's lots of sun (of course), less crimes, friendly people and you know...a better garden? Bleu only liked here because there is off - licence shops, drama along with crime, funny/ rude people and you know...a mystic shop?
Bleu popped round the corner store and looked around for a bit. The corner store was run by an Indian man. Very stereotypical. Despite him being too nice, him and Bleu are very good friends. Bleu picked up a newspaper and scanned to fridge for a BOJack drink. His favourite. They say it's from fruit with no sweetners. "As if..." Bleu smiled as he carried the newspaper and drink to the counter.
"Aah! Bleu! My little blue boy!" the shopkeeper jumped as he scanned the newspaper. It wasn't a lie, Bleu.....is basically blue. In everything.
"Oh hey" his soft voice slithered back
"Oh yes! Your favourite drink! I remember"
Of course you remember, the last time I bought this was 6 days ago, Bleu thought. He smiled through his anger.
"That'll be £7.98 please! You can get a discount because you're my friend!" The shopkeeper leaves to counter and is about to dance with Bleu.
"Let's dance! Bleu"
"Nah, not my jam. Maybe next time!"
Is this guy a pedo or pervert?, Bleu looks at his with disgust
He pays and leaves the store . On the way there, he opened his can of achohol . "Ahh, refreshing!"
He didn't notice but his shoulder hit Hailey hard.
"Oww!"
Bleu keeps on walking as if nothing happened.
Hailey turns around and recognises the blue hair and shovel. "Bleu? Bleu! Wait up!" Hailey runs up to Bleu and jumps onto the back of him as usual. "I can't believe you're going to the party! Did you bring anything?"
Bleu looks at Hailey in confusion then turns back to the street. "Yeah, I brought myself. Haha"
Hailey grabbed Bleu by his arm. "Haha! Oh Bleu, your so funny! I can't believe your an emo." She rested her head on his shoulder. It was clear that she liked him.
"Mhm" Bleu nodded as he took another sip out of his can.
Hailey watched in horror. "Bleu! Why?..." she took the can and threw it onto the floor. "You're going to ruin your liver! What are you going to start now? Smoke? Take drugs?"
Hailey's eyes were starting to tear up as she planted her face in Bleu's shirt. "Bleu..."
Bleu stopped for a second. He didn't care if he would hurt himself. He would reset soon anyway. He pushed Hailey aside and went to pick up the can. Littering was something else he hated. Hailey thought he was going to pick it up and drink it so she grabbed Bleu by the collar of his hoodie and pulled him up. Bleu held his neck chocking. In his desperate need to escape, he held Hailey's wrist and squeezed in with his nails about to protrude. Hailey let go and dropped to the floor in complete shock.
Letting go slowly, he got up and brushed himself clean. He picked up the can and threw it into the bin. He then stood there waiting for Hailey to get up and walk with him again. No. Hailey stood up without any hassle and slapped him right into the face. Ouch! Bleu stared into the direction he was slapped to and slowly turned back. Hailey realised what she did and covered her mouth with her hands. "Bleu, I'm so sorry. I didn't know I was chocking you. I just don't want you to get into a bad habit of this. You're only 17"
Bleu walked past Hailey with no emotion upon his face. Classic.
Hailey was starting to run after him. "Bleu, please stop! I honestly didn't know! Please." she caught up with him and pulled his sleeve to make him stop. "Here. I got you something..." Hailey fished for a little box with blue sparkly wrapping on it. "Sorry, I couldn't find your favourite colour blue. My brother used all of it." She gave the box to Bleu. His cold pale hands accidentally met hers and he took the box. He looked at it and looked at Hailey giving her his best smile. Bleu can smile, he can laugh, he can have fun, he can love. But when I mean he can, I mean he used to.
"Open it now! I wanna see your reaction. You can take this as my apology." Hailey jumped. Bleu peeled off the wrapping bit by bit. Inside there was a black box with a seed sachet. Bleu looked at the front cover and stared at both the present and Hailey. It was a pack of blueberry seeds. Exactly what Bleu needed. T-Thank you, was what he was meant to say through his tears but he fought the urge and gave Hailey a hug. His tears rolling down her blouse. "Uh..Thank You?" he managed to blurt out. Hailey patted him on the back and pulled away from the hug. "Bleu. Are you crying?"
Bleu wiped his eyes with his sleeve. "Shut up!" Hailey cocked her head and then laughed. Bleu put his hoodie down. "How do you know I was into farming?"
"I see you everyday on the way to school planting something. I know it's blueberries, Bleu."
"Shut up!" Bleu looked into Hailey's beautiful face.
"It's just that I've never...seen you with any emotion...why are you crying?"
Bleu sniffed and pulled his sleeve down to cover his scars and brui- I mean his hands..."It's j-just that, n-no one has given me a present since I restarted and everyone changed." Bleu was still crying. Hailey was about to laugh but realised what he just said. "Wait...you restarted? What does that mean?"
Bleu abruptly stopped crying. Shit, Bleu thought. Bleu had kept this a secret more than 300,000 times. He had stopped himself- no- he didn't need to because no one asked or related a subject to it. This is the reason why Bleu always has no expression. Emotions distract you. They are useless and they lead to problems. Now Bleu had a problem which needed to be solved in the most unthinkable way...
Bleu came from the land of Anyum a land of purpose. You were born for a purpose, you were sent down for a purpose. You cannot deny it or you'll be put into the Hunger Games and probably left there to die helplessly. There was no doubt about it. If you fail, you'll have a very painful reset and come back on Earth a day later all normal and shit. Anyum looks at different parts of Earth that need help or needed more of. Bleu's friend, Fae, was sent down to help stop poverty. Fae was really weak and denied it. He explained his point and then was sent down to plant trees to balance deforestation.
He did do this but after 2 years, he grew tired and denied it again but this time for an invalid reason. He was then sent to the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games was broadcasted on all screens. (Reminder, Fae was weak). In the first day, he got bitten by a venomous snake which filtered poison into his body that resulted in terrible pain. It was hard for Bleu to watch him scream and scream and scream until an archer came and finished him off quicker. Bleu was only 13 when this happened and learnt to follow the rules.
Bleu was then sent down 2 years later to plant....blueberries. Everyone thought it was quite absurd. Who would thought the Earth was lacking blueberries? Anyum would replace you with someone who has died lately that sort of matched your personality. You get to keep their life. Everyone who knows the person died, gets their memory erased so you can slip in perfectly. Bleu was set up with friends and some caring parents who are musicians. Lovely. Bleu spent his first year getting used to it, he loved his friends and loved his family. Bleu has never had a family before. It just felt...like the life he needed.
After all, no one on Anyum had parents. Just guardians to check on them every now and then. Bleu had two lesbian guardians who he called lovebians when he was little. They honestly loved Bleu and Bleu could call them parents if he wanted to. The "lovebians" were in tears when they saw that Bleu was going to be sent down on Earth. Bleu was in tears to. He was one happy child.
The Anyum officials told Bleu the 5 Golden Rules:
× Fit into your new family
× Plant 200 seeds every year or you will reset
× Don't get distracted
× Be human
And the final rule...
× Anyum should not be spoken of
'Anyum should not be spoken of' was starting to ring in Bleu's ears. He started to feel dizzy and nearly fell into the road. Hailey must of read Bleu's mind because she had a shocked face on. "Bleu...is there anything else you would like to say? I- I don't get how you would reset...did you die and come back to life? W-wait... I feel like there's two of you..."
Bleu was slowly regaining consciousness. She didn't know much...it's okay. I'll just tell her it was my dream, Bleu thought heavily. He was about to put his hand on Hailey's shoulder when...
"W-Wait. I swear there's a different you....There's Bleu...and there's...."
Hailey slapped her head and continued
"Mark..."
Bleu's hand went from Hailey's shoulder to his throat. He started chocking on thin air. "Gya!" So much for consciousness. Mark was the human Bleu was replaced with. He broke the last Golden Rule along with the 3rd. Bleu was done for unless he covered it up...
Hailey grabbed onto Bleu's torso from behind and did an exercise to help him stop. " Bleu, what's up? Did I say anything wrong?" Hailey put his arm around her neck and started walking.
Bleu let go and crouched to the floor panting. "No no no! Hailey stop! I can't... I just can't...why? Why did you say that?" His pupils were shrinking in size and his hair started to flair up even though there was no wind. A small star appeared on his forehead, a halo of stars formed around his head, his teeth became sharp and his cheeks grew freckle stars and shine was applied to it all.
Hailey watched dumbfounded. "W-what the f!?" She exclaimed. She took a few feet back and watched his transformation. Bleu finally stood up looking like a whole new character. Hailey dropped her handbag. "Bleu, are you...an anime character?" Hailey's response must of summoned Bleu somehow because his eyes turned from brown to a dangerous shade of blue. He swiftly took hold of Hailey's hand and ran into the other direction. He was WAY too quick to be human. He now broke the 4th rule.
Hailey looked at him in awe and in confusion. "Bleu. What about the party? We're going in the wrong direction!"
"In your dreams."
"You're in my dreams Bleu...I must be dreaming... You look amazing" She looked at him dreamily. "I need to tell the others you're actually an anime character!"
"No no no! Please don't!" Bleu stopped in front of the garden and broke open the gate. He pushed Hailey onto the floor and looked down on her.
"Bleu, why are we here? Are you going to try out my new seeds I gave you?" Hailey propped herself up. Bleu nodded. "Mhm" as he pulled out his shovel from his sling on his back. "Hailey, tell me you love me..." His eyes beginning to blur. Hailey looked up at him in confusion. "What are you talking about? I do love you, Bleu. I loved you since you...um..restarted"
Bleu gave the dirt a quick kick in anger and sadness. She still remembers, he thought. "Hailey, I love you. Promise me you won't die. Promise me!" He shouted through his tears.
"W-what's going on? Bleu why are you saying this?" Her voice cracked. Bleu raised his shovel bit by bit.
"W-wait..Bleu..no..you wouldn't... You wouldn't." Hailey laughed in horror. Bleu closed his eyes shut and gave the shovel a good swing towards Hailey's head.
Again. And again and again. Until Hailey's cries of agony stopped. Bleu slowly opened his eyes only to tear up at Hailey's body lying there with her eyes and mouth open. Blood was dripping down from her head and the tip of his shovel was too. Bleu burst out crying as he dropped down to the floor. "Hailey!" he wailed. "Hailey" he wailed again. He turned back into his human self looking down at his deed that was not human.
Bleu scooped up as much blood as he could from Hailey's blood pool. He kept on chanting Hailey over and over again until he gave up. "I'm sorry. Next time keep you airhole shut." Bleu stood up and did what had to be done. He scanned the area if there were any people before performing his magic. Holding out his hand, Bleu's eyes turned black and he pulled out roots and thorns from the ground and overlapped them onto Hailey to create a coffin of vines. Classy.
Bleu then dug a hole to put her in. Before doing so he gave the coffin a kiss. Covering the body up gave Bleu a painful ringing in his ear and heart to remind him that he'll soon be in trouble. Bleu turned around to exit. He walks on back down and into the neighborhood for the party. Only 30 minutes late. We could say that Hailey couldn't make it. A small chart appeared above Bleu's head, the number 106 turned to 107. After all, he had planted Hailey's gift onto her...
3...2...1...SURPRISE! Was the word Bleu had walked in on. All his friends' smiles had turned into a confused look when they saw that he was alone.
"Where's Hailey?" Maisey looked around him. Bleu walked in and found a half finished cup of juice, he finished it before saying "Hailey couldn't make it. She had to go on a little trip to her grandparents and wont be coming back for a while."
Maisey straight away pointed to her phone "Ugh! That's a lie! Hailey would of told me days before!"
Her high pitched voice made Bleu shiver. "She told me that you didn't need to know. Just because you're her best friend, doesn't mean you know everything that's going on in her life." Maisey was about to have a fist talk with Bleu until Kail pulled her back. "Wait, she told you about her plans?"
"I mean she is in love with him. She had a crush on him ever since Bleu changed slightly, I guess girl's really have the eye for men" Cameron sat on a table and played with his rings.
"Guys can we stop focusing on Bleu and discuss why Hailey's gone?" Maisey sat down. Everyone stared at her and looked at each other.
"Maisey, Hailey has things she would like to do that are important to her and we have our things. Just calm down and call her when she gets back. Alrigh-"
"Not alright! I know Hailey, she wouldn't just disappear on the night! If she had to she would tell us last second. I think Bleu's lying!"
Bleu looked around as soon as Maisey said his name. He knew to zone out of all the conversations that we're going on then when you are called, be as innocent as you can. "Huh? Who said my name?"
"Shut up! I'm talking to ya and I know what you said about Hailey isn't true. It can't be. Her grandparents live in Scotland, she'd have to prepare and therefore she would have enough time to tell us!"
"Woah, pack it up, Sherlock. Not everyone you first see is suspicious." Cameron led Maisey to to the sitting room and made her sit down. She crossed her legs and crossed her arms, obviously she was trying to make this situation seem more than it is. "Bleu if I find out your lying, you won't be seeing daylight aga-" Kail had shoved a small tart into her mouth. "Don't worry Bleu, she won't do anything to you, I swear."
But Bleu didn't see it as a joke, he saw it as a life threatening statement and he felt something that Maisey will soon feel if she found out what happened. Pain. Bleu felt pain in his chest-no, he felt pain in his heart. He was no longer a human but a psychopath. Why? Because he was plotting, plotting hard just to take the life of a friend, Maisey....
Seizing his prey, Bleu walked on over to the couch where everyone was sitting at and tapped Maisey's shoulder. "Hey." She turned around and examined him to check if there was any evidence of where her friend went. "What do you want?"
Bleu looked her into the eye and looked around. "Sorry for what I said earlier. Do you want to come with me and plant some blueberries in the backyard? I'll explain what really happened. I promise." He held out his hand waiting for her to tag along. But instead she scrunched her nose. "Eww. You think I'm gonna get my new blouse messed up?"
"You don't have to help me. You can sit and watch me."
Cameron spun around "Is Bleu being nice for once?" he laughed but was cut off by Bleu's piercing cold eyes. Maisey got up from her seat and followed Bleu into the garden. "Be quick. We've decided what movie we're watching"
"Oh don't worry, I'll make it quick." Bleu was smiling but not in a good way...he bent down to pull out a few roots from the patch before doing his work. Maisey, of course, sat down on a bench behind him and watched without interest. "So what's the news?" she yawned.
"Hailey was walking with me...she wasn't in the right state of mind and knocked my drink over...after she gave me a weird present..." Bleu picked up his shovel. Maisey's attention drew back. "What present? What's inside of it?" she stood up and tried to look over Bleu's shoulder. "Come look. It's in my hands." Bleu turned to face her as she crouched to his level. In his hand there was the small box Hailey gave him. "It's pretty isn't it?" he smiled. Maisey snatched the box from his hand and examined it. "It's not about the box, it's what is inside of it, silly. Why would the box matter?" she opened it slightly to reveal an empty space.
"What!? Bleu where the f*ck is the present she gave you? If you're trying to trip me up, that's you writing your own death note." she jumped onto Bleu throwing him about-yes-throwing him about. Bleu can be very lightweight for human, or very heavyweight. He slowly got up straightening his ruffled hair. "Maisey, I think you said it wrong..." he smiled widely with a glint of wickedness within his eyes. Picking up the message before he could say it, Maisey had her most horrified face on. She found her way to the backyard door, trying her best to crack open the lock.
"Maisey! Where are you going?" he stood up. "We haven't written your death note together!" he picked up his shovel and charged for her. Luckily, Maisey found a way to open the door and was running full speed down the road. Running for her life....but her life was way ahead of her...
She turned round the corner, locking eyes with an entrance to the woods. The only problem is that it was on the other side of the road. Around 45% chance of getting to the other side without Bleu pulling a serious prank that could trip her up. She had a chance, that was the only thing on her mind. Please, please leave me alone, I get your message. Go away!, she thought. Her own voice sounded annoying in her head. There was no time to change her voice now...the end of the road had come...
"After the blue car, after the blue car." Maisey didn't realise she was chanting out loud as Bleu could hear from a few metres away. "You mean UNDER the blue car!" he pushed a few people out the way still having his eye on her, still having his smile for her. Oh sh*t! Scrap that, Maisey lunged forwards knowing her second lunge will come when the car had moved. She miscalculated. The car driver stopped to take a look at Bleu and Maisey lunged into the car turning to slam her left arm against it instead of her face. She slid down in pain. "That... went horribly...wrong." she cried.
She still was lucky enough to now have a 43% if escaping. And when I mean escaping, I mean escaping Bleu. She found her way to stand up and limp to the small opening to the woods in between two houses. She really had hope until she was caught by her blouse. It was Bleu and he had pinned Maisey down with one hand and shovel ready in the other.
"Let me carve out your heart, just as a present. I'll keep it safe. Trust me." Bleu had crossed the line and now had a full on psycho mindset. Maisey tried her best to wriggle out and kick her way out of Bleu's grip. She finally got two hands out and within a few seconds she had slapped Bleu and dived into the little thorny entrance. Bleu stood to his feet and straightened the hair that was in his face. Did he go after her? No. The forest opening was quite thorny and had something to trip you up one way or another. Maybe even hold you or strangle you.
Maisey's chance of living where now 12%. Very slim. Bleu repeatedly threw the shovel into the air, with one hand in his pocket, whistled and walked back to the backyard as innocent as ever. Looking like he just went to meet a friend, he opened the wooden door he let out a hearty laugh and sat down to finish the work he started. It was very easy, make a hole, place the seed in, cover it up and then add water. It was as easy as what Bleu did to Hailey and Maisey, they both died with plants around them. Bleu's favourite. He smiled again underneath his dangling hair.
Bleu's kind had a weird blood lust, high anxiety levels, a craving for someone to get hurt. This wrong mindset was only present in 4 people within 10. This sounded like Bleu's cravings were just getting started...
A chart above his head turned to 108, of course, Bleu had tucked a seed into her blouse.
