"Azaiel! You miss a spot, you lazy girl! After you finish dusting the grand hallway. Go wash all of the bed sheets that are in the laundry room!" The head maid said with a huff.
"Yes, mam." Azaeil said as she continue dusting while trying to hide her annoyance.
"If you don't finish washing all the sheets, there will no dinner for you!" The head maid said while glaring at Azaiel.
"Oh Mary, don't you think that's a little too much? How can she wash all those sheets by herself?" Another maid chime in.
"Are you questioning my orders right now?! Do you also want to join her?!" Mary said in anger.
"No! I'm sorry, I've spoken out of line." The maid said while bowing her head in shame.
"Good! Now come on, we got lots to do." Mary said while leading her group of maids away.
"Huh! Good riddance! Begone you wench! No dinner for you!" Azaiel mutter to herself while mocking the head maid and continue on dusting.
The royal palace was huge with over a hundred rooms not even including the servants living corridors. Azaiel was able to get a job as a maid in the palace through the help of her childhood friend who is now a knight serving in the army. If she didn't get the job as a maid, she wouldn't know how her life would be now. Because she was born and raised on the streets like the other kids who had no parents. At least in the palace they provide food, shelter, and a salary.
Ever since, her arrival to the palace she has always been picked on by the other maids and servants. But it didn't bother her much cause life in the palace was a much better place than life on the streets.
After Azaiel finish dusting the grand hallway, she quickly went to the laundry room. She had to finish washing all the sheets if she want to eat and she was starving. As Azaiel was halfway done with the washing she curse the old fat head maid.
"Urgh. That fat hag only seem to pick on me. What's the deal? All these maids and she only ask me?" Azaiel said while trying hard to quickly wash the sheets.
She had barely made it but she did it. Her hands were blistering red from the washing and hot water. Her hair a mess and her stomach was growling nonstop. She put away the last of the bed sheets away and quickly made her way to the kitchen to grab her dinner.
"Hey Cory! What you got for dinner today?" Azaiel asked the assistant chef as she barge into the room.
"Well you are kind of late. But don't worry I save you a plate." Cory whisper to her as he went to a kitchen table and brought out a plate fill to the brim with food. Azaiel quickly grab the plate from him.
"Aw thanks! You are the best! I'm starved!" Azaiel exclaim while looking at the food.
"Although, it's just leftovers. I'm glad you like it!" Cory said with a smile while looking at Azaiel.
"Well, I'll be on my way then." Azaiel said while carrying the plate of food and walking out the kitchen. She then went to her room to go eat in quiet. Once in her room, she set her food down on the table and sat down on the chair with a thump.
"Augh...finally." Azaiel said while stuffing a piece of bread into her mouth.
After she finish eating, she heard a knock on the door. She look up to see who it was and the door open without a second knock. A maid appear at the door and when she saw Azaiel her eyes grew big.
"Azaiel! Thank goodness I found you! Mary has been looking for you and she's not so happy." The maid girl said.
"She never is. Sigh...what is it now?" Azaiel said while getting up.
"Well...I'm not sure but she seems angry. Anyway, since I found you, we must be quick or else her anger might explode!" Said the maid girl trying to rush Azaiel out the door.
Azaiel was led to a big room by the maid. She look around the room and could not see Mary anywhere.
"Why did you bring me here? Where is Mary? Wait a minute...this is the princess quarter! Why did you bring me here?!" Azaiel yelled in shock.
"It seem like I must be mistaken. I'm quite new here and the palace is so big. Wait here, let me go find Mary." The maid said while rushing out the door before Azaiel could stop her.
"Well, she does look new. I've never seen her before. Ugh. It's best for me to quickly leave this room too." Azaiel whisper to herself as she went towards the door.
No one was allowed in the princess quarters without the princess permission. Being in the room without permission would spell trouble. As Azaiel was walking out the door, she felt someone crash into her.
"Ow!" She yell.
She fell hard on the floor and felt the figure on top of her get up quickly and ran away. The mystery figure was so fast that Azaiel could barely see it's face. But as she regain her composure, she looked down at her dress and was shock to see blood! Did she fell down so hard that she started to bleed? She quickly check for any wounds but there was none. It must have been the mystery figure blood who crashed into her. Then she saw a knife that laid next to her that must have fell down when the mystery figure ran away. She pick up the handle of the blood stained knife to inspect it and as she was about to read the engraving carved into the knife she heard shouting.
"STOP RIGHT THERE!" She heard the knights yell. They were coming towards her at full speed with their swords out.
Azaiel look around her and point at herself.
"Me?" She mouthed.
Then before she knew it, she was pummel face down to the ground.
"Wa...wait!!!! You got the wrong person!" Azaiel tried to yell as she fought back the knights who were on top of her and restraining her movements.
"You are under arrest for the attempted assassination of princess Alexescia Dancarian of Zoquiron Kingdom." The head knight said while trying to catch his breath.
"Wha...what? Assasss-Assassination! Me?! The princess?! No! No, you got the wrong person!" Azaiel yell while still face down on the floor.
"Haha! Still trying to deny it! Even when we got the evidence right here!" The knight yell holding the bloody knife in his hand.
"It's got the princess blood on it!" Another knight chime in saying.
"Hurry up! Take her to the dungeon! Be glad, I didn't kill you right here as the princess is still alive! You must be sad to find out that you fail! The king will decide your punishment. Until then, enjoy your time in the dungeon!" The knight yell while laughing out in triump.
"Wai...WAIT! You got the wrong person! It wasn't me!" Azaiel yell while getting carry off to the dungeon.
"Hmmp! Still denying till the end." The head knight said while shaking his head in disbelief.
Azaiel was thrown into a dirty, damp, and small cell room. She fell hard on the floor. Before she could get up, she heard the cell door slamming shut and the click of a lock.
"Wha...wha..What just happened?" Azaiel said with tears in her eyes.
