🥀 The court🥀

Mona high court of Justice , full of lawyers,reporters , jury men and spectators attracted by the sensational nature of the case , the personalities involved and the public given in the press.

  Moses silently walked into the noisy court room, his head held high and his slender fingers on his tie.

   His movement was neither fast nor slow

but was bold enough to attract the attention of few certain person's, his eyes wondered  round the court room staring at the reporters whom were busy taking photos of all sides.

" You're late "

Mr Johnson voiced out staring at Moses who approached while standing in front of him with a smirk

" Morning to you Johnson "

He replied back not caring as he sat down comfortably dropping his suitcase on the small table.

" I can't afford to lose this case "

He muttered under his breath his hands on his phone which he placed in his pocket with a trouble expression

" Don't worry everything has been taken care of "

Moses replied taking off his glasses stylishly which attracted Johnson attention who sneered.

" That's what you said on the first trial a week ago "

He said in disbelief regretting his choice of a lawyer

" You worry too much sir Just sit back and relax you will see "

He assured Johnson who frowned at his words

" Order ! Order ! "

The ushers yelled as the court fell silent, everybody rises and remains standing until the judge takes his seat .

" Call for first case "

The judge voice out catching everyone attention

" Case No 1. State versus Johnson and three others "

The registrar yelled

" Mr Johnson ! "

The usher called out as a police man and a woman lead the  accused person into a small box and asks to remain standing as the registrar reads the charge .

After reading of the charge

   Counselor for the prosecutor Mr Antonio a tall, slim man young man named James in a black cloth raised up .

" Guilty or not guilty ? "

Antonio asked Mr Johnson who frowned before staring sideway at the judge

" Not guilty "

He voiced out not very loudly

" What are the facts of the case "

The judge asked his eyes scanning the hall silently before landing on Antonio

" Your lordship and members of the jury ,  the fact are these  :

The ushers called out as a middle aged old woman steps into the witness box .

  The court clerk comes to the front witness box.

He asked only for her to reply

" Take this Bible in your hands and repeat after me , I swear by almighty God that the evidence I shall give shall be the truth , the whole truth and nothing but the truth "

The clerk said only for her to repeat the same words

  Antonio asked his brown eyes locked on hers

" Williams Sarah "

She replied casually 

" Where you the one who made the report against

Mr Johnson ? "

He asked her who nodded

" Yes I did "

She replied

" Why ? "

Antonio asked the more watching her take in a deep breath fearfully

" Am one of the house mald of Mr Johnson, one afternoon Mr Johnson employee bought in a girl who was later employed as his personal mald . 

   Esther who was just sixteen was always sexually harassed

by Mr Johnson every day "

She said which made everyone murmured

" Order ! in the court "

The usher yelled causing everyone to fall silent

He asked modestly

The judge voiced out

" Mrs Williams Sarah do you have evidence for your claim that my client sexually harassed Esther "

Moses asked while standing walking in front of mrs Williams Sarah

" No but am a witness to it all "

She defended

" Is that so then why didn't you report to the police then ? "

He asked catching her off guard

" Well - - - "

" My Lord my client is being framed for a crime he didn't do "

Moses yelled pointing at her who suck in the cold air

" My Lord if you don't mind I will like to ask a question to the witness yet again "

" Please proceed "

He agreed for Moses who adjusted his suit while asking

" Mrs Williams Sarah few months before the incident Mr Johnson had fired you due to theft are you doing this for revenge ? "

He asked causing her to gush in shock

" Objection my Lord he's asking a question which doesn't concern the case at hand "

Antonio yelled only to be ignored

" Please proceed "

The judge allowed

" No I had evidence for all the crimes he did and for him to shut me up he had threatened me with my son and fired me through the process "

She replied .

" Do you have evidence for this claim as well ? "

He asked yet again only for her to keep silent

" So I thought anyway I will like to ask as to why you had arrived back to Mr Johnson home when you were clearly fired ? "

He asked yet again

" Because Esther had called me for help but when I got there I couldn't find anyone only stains of blood "

She replied her voice filled with regrets .

" Or could it be that you killed her and pin point the blame to my client ? "

He asked which made her pupils shook in shock looking round the court .

" No I would  never  "

She yelled loudly only for Antonio to stand

" Objection my Lord ! This is certainly a very cruel thing said by my learned colleague to the lady before us . I request your lordship to restrain him from further vulgarism and insinuations "

" Objection granted defense counsel , you will please refine from using vulgar words  "

The judge spoke lazily staring down at Moses who look away

" Yes your lordship "

" Bring in Mr Paul as a witness "

The judge voiced out

" Am sorry my Lord but he's not here in the court "

Moses informed the judge who nodded

" Very well then "

He said staring at the usher to call the accused.

" Mr Johnson ! "

The usher called out for Mr Johnson to leave the dock and goes into the witness box .

The court clerk comes to the front and performed the traditional swearing ceremony

"  What is your name and age ? "

Moses asked his client

" Johnson and am 46 "

He replied simply staring at Moses who ignored his stare

" And your occupation ? "

He continued

" Am the vice chairman of the US club and the CEO of silver pills company "

Johnson replied casually with the hit of proud

" How long have you been on the job ? "

Moses asked yet again

" Six years "

He replied quickly

' Are you married or not ? "

He asked Johnson who nodded

" Hmm yes I even have a daughter "

Moses further asked Johnson who seems confused as well

He replied palely

" Why can't I find your family in the court "

He asked only for Johnson to sigh

" Both at the hospital my wife is ill so my daughter is caring for her "

He explained simply

" Have you ever been involved in such cases ? "

He asked Johnson who shook his head

" No "

He replied quickly as well for Antonio to yell

" Objection my Lord am afraid my learned colleague is missing the point while asking such question "

Antonio yelled only for the judge to stared at Moses calmly

" Mr defence counsel can you come to the point ? "

He asked Moses who took a step forward

" My Lord my client who has never been involved in such thing how can he dare hurt a girl his daughter age ? "

Moses asked Antonio who frowned  

" My Lord my client is clearly not guilty for such a crime but was dragged into court in order to ruin his reputation "

Moses yelled which made the judge nod for Antonio to sneer

" Then explained to us how did the body ended up into Mr Johnson bar parlour ? "

He asked Moses who approached his suitcase taking out a few white shit of papers  submitting each on both the judge and Antonio who look down on it .

" It started there that the bar parlour had been sold two years back to another client, who is clearly being interrogated as we speak

   and as for the deceased Esther her autopsy results claimed that she had drank down rat poison which was the cause of her death.

  in other words it's Known as sucidal even the note she wrote on is already with the police "

Moses continue throwing another logic after the other

" It's all lie "

A lady who looked hagged and paled yelled catching all their attention .

" Order ! in the court "

The usher yell causing a nearby boy to hug her consoling her silently so as the woman besides her .

Looking at the jury who were murmuring among themselves staring at the countless evidence he nodded  before staring at Johnson

" Due to the evidence provided by the accused he is set free from lack of evidence and would be paid for the damage he had gone through "

The judge voiced out which startled everyone including Antonio who wanted to say more but was interrupted by the yelling of the lady .

" Order ! in the court "

The usher informed 

Stands up with paper in Hands was the registrar who voice out

" Members of the jury ( addressing the jury directly ) ,

You all agreed on the

verdict ? "

He asked the jury who looked at each other

" We agreed "

The foreman of the jury spoke while the rest nodded

" Is it guilty or not guilty ? "

The registrar asked

" Not guilty "

Johnson sigh while smiling while the lady yelled in agony and pain

" My Lord this is not Justice my daughter didn't kill herself "

The lady cried her eyes out to be ignored by the judge who stood.

" Court arise "

The usher informed while standing so as everyone watching the judge walked out

" Court dismiss "

He yelled again as everyone stared murmuring while leaving the court room .

" Wow congrats we won "

Moses informed the happy Johnson who laughed catching Antonio attention who sneered walking away .

" Let's go celebrate "

Johnson suggested only for Moses to decline

"You should be careful next time I won't help "

He informed coldly only for Johnson to tap his shoulder while laughing

" You are really one of a kind "

He said walking away only for Moses to dust his shoulder in disguest arranging his stuff and ready to leave only to be slapped on his face .

" You bastard "

She yelled loudly in tears catching everyone attention

" Mother ! "

The boy called out softly still staring daggers at Moses who sighed

" Am definitely not a bastard

ma and beside this is just the court the winner gets it all "

He voice out wanting to leave

" I lost mine you will surely lose someone that I curse you "

She yelled only for him to be ignored walking out the court into the hallway with a blank expression.

She yelled for the third time catching all the students attention who now noticed her presence in the small classroom

They greeted in Union while standing as she approached her desk eyes still on the Young teens who all stood upright like army's saluting their captain,

  Which was a bit strange to Anita who frowned the more at the sight.

She ordered watching them all took their seat with a smile on their faces

" If you hear your name please answer so I can mark your name in the attendance list "

She informed not caring about the little monkeys which could cause trouble any minute

He replied while raising his hands

The calling goes on and on till she called out a certain name which didn't give any reply

She asked the class which shook their heads silently only to but stared at Anita who sighed worriedly, It been a week but still nothing from her .

Anita walked in tiredly towards her desk which was decorated with both books and albums of herself and her seven year old son and finally a white laptop in the middle .

which was parked with unmarked assignment before leaving .

She exclaimed with a silly smile turning on her laptop in checking on her class test questions which was a week from now.

" 2 : 00 just few minutes to go and I'll be out of the this office "

while complaining about the continuous headache she kept having while yelling at her class only to be ignored by the rest of the staff

  Two fake your death and run to another country living in hiding all your life and finally three fake a mental health disease to escape trust me it helps but it doesn't actually doesn't have to be fake since you aren't in a stable mental health in the first place "

Moses walked through the glass door his steps click through the halls so as the rest.

   But was still noticed by the staff which pointed at his way while gossiping about him,

it wasn't something new so he didn't think much about it.

Moses who silently pressed the floor button was actually suspicious,

The sound of the elevator door slide open widely, walking out into the (5) fifth floor and into the quiet halls.

The first male voice out breaking the silence which didn't surprise the rest.

" He must have use another illegal means yet again to win  it's not a surprise "

Another male voice out with a sneer which made the four men laughed.

" Even though he looks so handsome in his suit as always "

The three female commented which made the male rolled their eyes not surprise .

" Even if , he is still corrupt working for those who hurt our society and children "

The first female replied sarcastic which almost made him choke out blood.

" I heard Mr Johnson is at his office waiting for him "

The other quickly added which caught everyone attention

A female asked the rest which fail silent.

Main while Moses walked into his office only to spot Mr Johnson sited legs crossed and currently enjoying a cup of coffee in a relaxing manner.

Moses voice out tiredly while taking off his outer suit and simply hanging it on a hanger

He reply simply which was a bit of surprise to Moses who smirk but still maintain his cool expression

He advised taking a seat and simply going through some new files which was placed on his desk .

With that without waiting for Moses reply

   he walks out slamming the door shut and leaving a now serious Moses who took hold of the card Which edges were rough and hard.But the designs were simple and pale in a classic way,

  Just staring at it felt a bit different as if, it wasn't just a card but something more than that . His eyes travel through the rough edges then the surface wanting to see the inside, when he felt a stinging pain on the tips of his fingers dropping the card on the table to attend to the pain.

    It was nothing more than a paper cut but still made him hiss staring at the wound which was neither big nor small.

Chapter two

Anita sighed in relief the moment she drove into the driveway and finally into a parking spot.

Without wasting much time she climbed out her car combing through her curly hair before tightening her grip on her purse , her eyes scanned through the countless cars before forcing on the small church which was painted gray and was neither far nor close .

Until she came in front of the brown wooden door which was slightly opened, glaring down her wrist watch she couldn't help but sigh in relief .

She muttered walking in only to be welcome by the humming of the choirs and the feeling of familiarity.

Her eyes travel round the small church Which smell of wood with the hint of roses,

and finally her eyes on the members.

which seemed to be lost in their own world of singing and worship and finally at the pastor whom eyes were closed but his hands held high singing alongside with the choirs .

" Where's Barnabas ? "

She asked silently glaring round in search for her son ,

who was spotted in the mixed of the choirs holding a mic and humming along

which made her smile warmly finally sittings on a bench close by which was at the back before shutting both eyes letting the song sink deep into her heart and soul.

After few more seconds of listening to the humming of the song ( powerful ! Powerful ! Lord )

she prayed silently deep in her heart as she careless her stomach lightly,

eyes now on the pastor who warmly gazed at his members opening his Bible so as the rest expect for Anita who didn't bring any

She heard him voice out which attracted the members attention .

Barnabas smile softly the moment his little eyes spotted his mother who seemed to be engrossed in the teaching .

his small eyes not leaving the Same spot for mere seconds before feeling a gentle tap

His reply was short, childish and was simply ignored. thinking he was just messing around,

he could clearly remember the words his mother had echo into his ears last night while reading the Bible to him .

They might help in catching the criminals if we give them enough reasons and evidence "

She reasoned a bit confused and lost for Moses weird demand

    however was still curious upon the incident that dragged his wife into such condition

Paul Walked silently towards the entrance before staring at the white but eerie building with a complicated expression.

He answered oddly which jack didn't seem to noticed

" I just received a call from the team leader; He wants us to head back to the Station "

Jack explained a bit puzzle himself but refused to say out his thoughts

Jack nodded in understanding heading out first alongside with Paul whom steps soon halt gazing behind the slight open door with a complicated expression on his face

His partner asked sensing Paul odd behavior

The word nothing was a bit heavy in his heart

   he so wanted to ask jack questions concerning what his wife words might mean but held himself

He muttered loudly mostly to himself walking forward towards the entrance with different thoughts floating in his mind .

   Moses eyebrows furrowed in displeasure just staring at the figure who was dressed grand and costly

     What even made him even more displeased was the fact that the woman herself didn't seemed to care and was in a hurry to leave after few seconds of her arriver

" Aunt ! "

He greeted not thinking of calling her his mom- in- law privately

  After all in his own thinking such woman doesn't deserve to be called one

" Ah ! my dearest son "

   Mrs Ella replied causally eyeing Moses who was dressed causally in a patient cloth which was twice Bigger than his usual size ,

   his usual haircut now seemed messy However his full body reflect his cold aura towards the woman right in front of him

    His right elbow wrapped and simply place in a cast for support

" You are late "

He reminded the woman who nodded with a sigh

    Her eyes staring straight ahead mostly on the other patient in disgust

   whom were busy minding their business before staring back at her son in law

  who was neither smiling nor frowning 

" You can't blame me after all when your dad called I was actually in the spar ( beauty salon )

     I couldn't just leave my hair was still undone "

She explained simply which made Moses gritted his teeth holding back his anger

He muttered more like a whispered,   his eyes gradually turned cold but still didn't say more

" And you what happened to you ? "

She asked sounding curious for brift seconds her eyes shifting to his injured arm and finally at his face .

" Just had a little accident "

He replied poliently  trying his best to sound respectfully

She murmured under her breath shaking her head

" And Anita ? "

She asked causally eyes still glued oy Moses who parted his lips

" She's good now "

He replied simply not intending to say more

" Oh ! Then tell me her room number let me talk to her "

She asked sounding a bit concerned

" She's resting no distrub "

He only use a few words to stop her who nodded understanding

"  Then I'll be heading back then "

She informed moses who did expect this was still slightly surprise

" You're leaving ?  "

He found himself asking in a hurry at her figure who was about to leave

" Hmm there's a friend party I need to attend "

She replied truthfully feeling Moses stare

   which felt cold but simply shook such thoughts off her mind .

" Are you really leaving Anita for a party ? "

He asked sounding sarcastic

" Of course not I'll be back sooner  than you think, so don't worry and besides you are here aren't you her husband ? "

Moses took a step forward wanting to say something

  but found her walking away elegantly like a noble lady

Without waiting for Moses to say more

  her heels clicked along the tiles furthering her steps away

   from Moses who furrowed his brows in anger yet again but didn't dare to stop her

     He silently look back heading forward his mind clouded with so many thoughts .

" Boss ! "

At that moment he heard a familiar voice which got his attention.

     Looking through the mixed of  passerby his eyes caught up a figure which approached slowly

" Precious ! "

He mouthed not loudly watching her

    as she took each steps forward until she came to a stop right in front of him

" Aren't you supposed to be with Aunt ? "

He found the words leaving his mouth before closing them back in a hurry noticing her tired expression

" She's resting "

She replied causally her voice hoarse and rough from all the crying, her eyes swollen and red but still managed to force a small smile

" And leo ? "

He softly asked which made her sighed but nodded

" He's still unconscious "

Her voice low with a hint of guilt

" The doctors said he's out of danger

  but I just don't understand why he's still not waking up "

She whispered mostly to herself wrapping off the new fresh tears inhaling deeply to calm

 down her heart

" He will wake up soon we just have to be patient "

He console not just her but also himself

" You should head home and try get some rest you really seems to need it "

Moses suggested with a small smile which made her nod not arguing about it .

    Her body really felt low and exhausted both in and out

" I think it will be better

   if one of the cops escort you back just for protection

   We don't want to take any risks mostly when the culprit is still out there "

He suggested yet again his voice hint with concerned .

which made her understood but still shook her head

" There's no need I can head back on my own

    Am not scared anymore and besides I think it will be better if the cops stays and protect both Leo and yourself "

She said simply

" Don't worry about me I can care for myself

  right now it's my responsibility to see you both safe and sound "

He murmured under his breath before focusing back on percious

" Speaking about the police did they ask you for any more questions ? "

" Hmm but  you told me not to say a word to them "

She replied back with a serious expression which made him nod in satisfaction

" We can't afford to take risks "

He nodded while thinking

" By any chance did you manage to get a better look at the culprit face ? "

This question soon made her fall silent slightly thinking before shaking her head

" No it was too dark and it happened so sudden that I didn't have time "

She explained her voice tremble at the memories

" Don't think about it then and head back,

  I will ask one or two to take you back  "

" Speaking about them I wonder where they might be ? "

He thought silently not voicing out his thoughts
