His Luna (The Beginning)

Chapter 1

Sammy's point of view

I am Samantha. An ordinary girl. In this world there are few things I consider important; my family, my boyfriend and my education. I am doing an interior design course in XYZ University while working as an intern in a design company near campus.

I stay in a rented studio apartment during weekdays and during weekends I drive for two hours to reach home. At home there  is my dad, mom and my dog, Tim Tim. I have a sister, Sandra. She lives with her husband, Chris in the next town.  They have two kids Marven and Derrick. We are a very close family. My brother-in-law travels a lot for work so he drops them off when he has to leave town for work. He gets really worried when he has to leave her home alone with the kids. So my dad and Chris came with this arrangement. I joke around telling that Chris thinks that my sister is still a kid. To it he responds 'yeah yeah! You don't know the struggle of a man with three kids'.

That day was my birthday and also a weekend. So I slept in. I was startled awake when my phone rang.

I sat up, opened my eyes and glanced at the phone ' Home'. I smiled and answered. ' Hello'

'Happy Birthday to you...Happy birthday to you' I could hear a group of people singing the happy birthday song. Once they finished everyone started wishing one by one 'Happy Birthday Sammy' Sammy that's what they call me at home.

When everything was over I said ' Thank you, I love you all. What will I do without all of you.' Then I spent the next ten minutes talking to everyone. My sister and brother-in-law are also home. Seems everyone had planned to get together this week to celebrate my birthday but I got held up due to a project that I had to submit by Tuesday.

So after I hung up, got out of bed, got ready and went straight to the university library. Tomy had asked me to have breakfast together since it's my birthday. So I browsed through some books I needed for the project while waiting for him.

I was looking at a book on colours and its effect in interior design when I felt someone standing in front of me. As I looked up he asked 'mate?'. He was a tall handsome man with dark hair and deep eyes. Suddenly his face darkened and eyes became meaner. Then he said  ' you are a human? How is it possible?'.

Suddenly someone called me from behind. I turned around to see my boyfriend, Tony. But when I turned back, the stranger was gone. Tony walked towards me and asked 'what happend?'. I replied 'oh nothing. Just met a very strange person. Guess he mistook me for someone else. It also looked like he was not in his right mind.' Tony just smiled and said 'let's go'.

The rest of the day I spend in the library. Then at four, packed some books and went for some grocery shopping.

That evening in my studio apartment I was getting a romantic dinner ready for Tony and me. I had just set the table when I heard a knock on the door. I looked at myself in the mirror and checked if my hair was out of place and my makeup was intact. Then I turned around and started walking to the door.the next second, the door fell in front of me with a bang.

In front of the door the guy I met earlier in the library. He also has another guy standing behind him. Both handsome. But my mind went back to the conversation earlier and it occurred to me that the guy was not sane. My brain kept telling me to run but my body was frozen in place.

The guy following him came up to me, looked at my face and asked the lunatic 'Is this her?' To it the lunatic just nodded yes. 'Wow! She's beautiful, Raven.'

Chapter 2

I couldn't move even though my mind was yelling at me to run. After the initial shock my mind took control of my body and I ran to the kitchen, picked up a knife and held it in front of me. I looked for my phone but it was on the table beside them as they had already made their way into the middle of the room.

I remembered the guy was crazy and don't know what he would do if provoked. I thought I should reason with them. So I gathered up my courage and said ' lets all calm down k? Nobody has to get hurt today?'

On hearing this the guy next to him burst out laughing and said 'The only person not calm here is you. Why don't you put down the knife and let's talk' he continued ' I am Ryan. What's your name?.'

'You don't even know me but you barged into my house and even broke the door down' I screamed. While making this conversation, I slowly made my way to the table, hoping that they wouldn't understand my intention. I quickly grabbed my phone and tried to dial 112. I just felt a flash of lighting and then my phone was gone.

I realised one of them had actually grabbed the phone right out of my hand. Now I could feel fear gripping me. I thought in my mind ' Is this the end? Are they going to kill me?'.

I tightened my grip on the knife's handle. The other guy started to walk towards me but the lunatic stopped him. 'She's already scared of us. I told you this was a bad idea' He said, 'She's not one of us.'

'But she was in danger. If she doesn't come with us she might even get killed' he asked 'If you ignore it, and something happens, how will you be able to live with that?' To it he just glared.

The two guys suddenly looked at each other as if communicating through facial expressions. Then the other guy marched forward, disarmed me and said 'Forgive me, Luna. We have no time to explain now. Let me get you out of here first'. I protested saying 'I am not Luna. You have the wrong person. I am Samantha.'

Without even bothering to listen he lifted me up and carried me out the door. He opened the passenger seat of the car and buckled me in while saying ' Luna, please don't worry. I won't hurt you. I will be driving a little fast because we need to get out of here asap. I hope you won't do anything stupid. If something happens to you, I will be dead.'

For a minute I couldn't respond and when I was able to, the only response I could cough up was ' Why'. He closed the passenger side door, walked over to the driver's side, settled in and buckled up.

He started the engine and drove through the side road which converged into the main road. The car we were in soon merged in with the busy traffic.

He then broke the silence and said ' Because there are people trying to kill you'.

'What?' I asked shocked and confused ' Who would want to kill me? I am just an ordinary girl'.

'No. You are not.' He glanced at me and continued 'You are the Luna of the largest pack.'

'How many times do I have to tell you I am not Luna.' I explained 'I am Samantha.'

'Haha' he burst out laughing again and said 'Luna is not a name. In a pack, the Alpha's mate is called Luna.'

'I don't understand', I said 'What pack? What Alpha?'

'I guess you have no idea who we are. Then, I will explain from the beginning. Have you heard of warewolves?',he asked. When I nodded yes, he continued, 'we are warewolves. We are real and not just some imaginary creatures. Much like the regular wolves, we too live in packs. The leader of the pack is called an Alpha and his mate is called the Luna. So, now you see, I call you Luna because you are our Alpha's mate.'

'Who is your Alpha?' I enquired. Now he looked confused. ' Are you pulling my leg now?' He asked, ' didn't you just meet him?'

'THAT LUNATIC?', I blurted out ' HE IS YOUR ALPHA?'.

The car came to a sudden screeching stop.

Chapter 3

Raven's point of view

I was running through the field, the grass was green and the air was cold. I saw the sun rays falling on something white. I moved closer and saw that it was a woman. She was sitting on a large rock with her back to me. Her hair was long and she was wearing a white dress. The sunlight fell right on her through the clearing in the trees giving her skin a golden colour.

As I walked closer, I stepped on a branch. She tilted her head and then walked away with her fingers lightly brushing the tip of the grass as she walked through it. On her wrist there was a bracelet with phases of the moon as charms.

In my heart, I felt the desperate need to be with her. I followed behind and then increased my pace when I couldn't catch up to her. The tall grass sealed her away from my eyes. I kept increasing my pace until I was finally running to catch up with her; simultaneously pushing the grass sideways with my hands as I made my way through them.

'Tring tring tring' my alarm started ringing.

I was startled awake, feeling a little irritated to be woken up from a good dream. I sat up and checked the time. It was 4 AM.

For a while I sat down thinking to myself, why do I keep having the same dream over and over? Who is she? If she is my mate? If she is,  why hasn't she shown up yet? Has anything happened to her? Is that her way of communicating?

But that can't be. The mate bond is usually strong especially in the case of Betas and Alphas. Their mates are almost always close to them, either in the same pack or the neighbouring packs. They are also able to recognise their mates early on in their lives, at about 7 or 8 years of age.

But why haven't I found mine even though I am already 26.

The more I think about it, the more questions I seem to have.

Many believe that it could be because my mate died young. And I choose to believe that. It is better than waiting for someone who may never come.

Some pack members and other neighbouring packs have

already used this as an excuse to set me up with a mate; either for the power or to stabilize their packs.

A pack can't be left without a Luna for very long as this increases the uncertainty of the pack's future. And without two leaders, the pack will be seen as an easy target.

But being a Luna is a huge responsibility. The power is almost equivalent to the Alpha. So I cannot grant that to just anyone. It should be someone who can put the pack above all things including their own life and have the ability to lead the pack in my absence.

I got out of bed and started my day. I went running on the pack ground before heading to the gym. At around 7, I was back in my room, took a shower and headed to the kitchen. I made myself a cup of coffee and some avocado toast. Then sat down to have breakfast before reading the news.

It was almost 8 and there was no sign of Ryan.

I waited for 10 more minutes before Ryan walked into the kitchen in his pyjamas half sleepy.

He walked past me to the refrigerator, without even realising I was there, mumbling ' hungry, very hungry, food'.

I rushed over to the front of the refrigerator and shut it before he could even open it completely and said 'You are late'.
