"Thread of the Unseen Bond" *WangXian*
Chapter ¹
The wind carried a sharp scent of blood and ash as waves whooshed and fell.
Lan Wangji stood at the edge of the cliff, robes torn, gaze blank, sword slick with crimson.
Below, the siege of the Burial Mounds had ended—Wei Wuxian was gone.
He did not scream. He did not cry. He simply turned his face to the sky.
A white ribbon fluttered from his wrist, then snapped free.
He leapt.
—
Cries filled the warm chamber of Wei Sect’s inner house.
A newborn's wails echoed through high ceilings carved with demonic seals and bone patterns.
Wei Changze pressed a cold cloth to Jiang Fengmian’s brow, eyes flickering with relief and panic.
Wei Changze/Enigma
“He’s out,” (voice hoarse) “He’s crying. He’s... strong.”
Jiang Fengmian, pale and sweat-soaked, tilted his head weakly toward the cradle.
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
“Let me see him... bring him here, Changze.
Wei Changze immediately turned (heart pounding, hands careful) and lifted the infant wrapped in black silk.
The baby’s eyes were fiercely open—red-rimmed and unblinking.
He didn’t look like a newborn. He looked like he remembered.
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
(softly) “Wei Ying.”
The baby stilled at the name.
As if it recognized it.
A soft knock interrupted the moment.
Jiang Ziyuan entered, long braid swinging, face glistening from the mountain’s climb.
Behind her, Wei Sanren followed with bright, curious eyes.
Between them trailed their children—Jiang Yanli, eight years old, and Jiang Cheng, four.
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
(whispering to her mother) “Mama, is that him?”
Wei Sanren/Omega
“That’s your little cousin, Wei Ying. Be gentle.”
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
(tugging at her robes) “Can I hold him, Mama?”
Jiang Fengmian smiled faintly, reaching out.
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
“Come here, A-li. You may hold him if you're careful.”
The girl stepped closer, heart thudding, hands outstretched.
Wei Changze placed the baby in her arms slowly.
Wei Ying blinked up at her.
And didn’t cry.
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
(gently) “Hello, little cousin.
Jiang Cheng peeked from behind his mother’s robes, grumbling.
Jiang Cheng/Alpha/4
“He’s so small. Why are we here?”
Wei Sanren/Omega
“You’ll understand one day, A-Cheng.”
A sharp gust blew through the hall as seals along the wall pulsed.
Wei Changze looked toward the wards.
Wei Changze/Enigma
“Someone’s coming.”
From outside, three silhouettes emerged through the bone gate—Lan Xichen, Lan Wangji, and an attendant from the Lan Sect.
They were guests. Diplomats.
Wei Ying stared past the cradle’s edge and his fingers curled.
Lan Wangji’s white robes rippled like clouds in a storm.
His eyes caught the baby’s.
They both froze.
A crackle of energy passed between them—lightning without thunder.
Wei Ying’s soul twisted.
He remembered those eyes.
He remembered dying in front of them.
But he didn’t cry.
Chapter ²
He didn’t cry, but the cradle creaked under his sudden motion.
Wei Ying twisted slightly in Jiang Yanli’s arms, still staring at Lan Wangji.
The connection was instantaneous, visceral, like a string snapping taut between them.
Lan Wangji/Enigma/7
(quietly to his brother) “Xichen... that child...”
Lan Xichen/Enigma/12
(glanced at him, understanding flickering in his gaze.)
Lan Xichen/Enigma/12
“You feel it too.”
Wei Changze stepped forward, folding his arms.
Wei Changze/Enigma
“You’ve arrived early, welcome
Lan Xichen/Enigma/12
“We received your message late, but hurried here. Qingheng-jun couldn’t attend.”
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
(slowly sat up, supported by a cushion)
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
(voice still soft) “Thank you for coming. The child is well.”
Wei Sanren/Omega
(guided her children back with a nod.)
Wei Sanren/Omega
“Come along, A-Cheng, A-Yanli. Give them space.”
Lan Xichen/Enigma/12
(Looked at the little boy with shinning curious eyes )
Jiang Cheng/Alpha/4
(felt the stare but ignore and look at the baby )
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
(handed the baby back, her fingers lingering)
Lan Xichen/Enigma/12
(look at the departing boy till he's out of sight)
Wei Ying gave a small, sudden sneeze.
Wei Changze caught him easily.
Wei Changze/Enigma
(smiling) “You sneeze like your mother.”
The baby made a sound suspiciously like a snort.
Lan Wangji stepped closer, gaze never leaving the infant.
Lan Wangji/Enigma/7
“May I...?”
Wei Changze/Enigma
He hesitated, then nodded.
Wei Ying was passed into Lan Wangji’s arms.
He did not fuss.
He stared.
Lan Wangji cradled him with practiced ease.
Their eyes locked again.
Something inside Wei Ying twisted.
He wanted to reach up. To say something. To explain.
But he was a baby, and the world was not ready.
A quiet settled.
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
“He is Wei Ying.”
Lan Wangji/Enigma/7
“I know.”
Lan Xichen/Enigma/12
(Looked between them. )
Lan Xichen/Enigma/12
💭Does he...?💭
The infant in white let out a breath.
Because whatever storm would come this time, he wouldn’t be alone.
But even as the warmth of Lan Wangji's arms settled over him, something inside Wei Ying thrashed.
This wasn’t a second chance—it was a prison wrapped in flesh too small to move in.
He blinked up at the man who once died because of him.
Why are you here? he thought, mouth unable to shape the words.
The sensation of being seen and not understood filled him with a bitter ache.
He flinched as Lan Wangji brushed a thumb along his forehead.
Lan Wangji/Enigma/7
(softly) “He looks... burdened.”
Lan Xichen/Enigma/12
“He is newly born, Wangji.”
Lan Wangji/Enigma/7
“I know what I said.”
The baby squirmed, trying to reach his own face.
His tiny fists curled as if searching for the sword that no longer existed in his grip.
Wei Changze watched warily, arms crossed.
Wei Changze/Enigma
“He does that often. Like he wants to speak.
Jiang Fengmian’s gaze never left the child.
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
“He’s... not normal.”
The air cooled slightly.
Wei Sanren tilted her head, watching the baby stretch his fingers again, grabbing at nothing.
Wei Sanren/Omega
“He remembers.”
Jiang Ziyuan/Dominant Alpha
“That’s not possible.”
Wei Sanren/Omega
(slowly) “And yet... look at his eyes.”
The baby turned his head sharply at her voice.
He recognized that tone. The weight of certainty. The way truth walked uninvited into a room.
It made his chest tighten.
Wei Changze/Enigma
(shifted his weight, eyeing his mate)
Wei Changze/Enigma
“Do you think...?”
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
(quietly) “I think... Wei Ying is still here.”
Wei Ying tried to close his eyes, to shut the voices out, but the body was too raw, too awake.
He couldn’t run. Couldn’t hide.
Lan Wangji’s grip was steady, but Wei Ying could feel how tightly the man held him—as though afraid he’d disappear again.
Something surged in his chest.
Jiang Yanli gasped and stepped forward again.
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
“Is he hungry? Papa Feng, is he crying?”
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
“Come here, A-Ying. He may feel more at ease with you.”
Lan Wangji/Enigma/7
(He paused, reluctant, but handed the baby over )
Wei Ying landed back in her arms with a small exhale.
He remembered this too. Her scent. Her heartbeat. The warmth of her shoulder as she rocked him gently side to side.
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
(whispering) “It’s alright, A-Ying. You’re safe now.”
The baby hiccupped once. Then again.
Not from crying—but confusion.
This was not the mother he remembered.
This was not Lotus Pier.
But her voice... it hurt in a way he hadn’t expected.
He buried his face in his shoulder.
Chapter ³
Warm, safe—but wrong.
The wrong scent. The wrong hold. The wrong heartbeat.
The infant’s fingers curled tight around the edge of his blanket.
His thoughts—still shattered pieces—refused to settle.
A voice whispered in his head:
You already died.
But then why could he see?
Why could he feel this familiar ache in his chest every time Lan Wangji turned his gaze?
Why did he know his name?
He was no blank slate.
He remembered steel under his ribs.
He remembered shrieking ghosts clawing for his soul.
He remembered—
Wei Changze/Enigma
(Bent closer, brushing fingers over his damp forehead.)
Wei Changze/Enigma
(softly) “Too bright? Let’s cover the cradle.”
But it wasn’t light that hurt him.
It was memory.
It was knowing.
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
(Turned his head from the bed, watching his son’s trembling lip.)
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
(softly) “He’s not just fussy. He’s… aware.
Wei Changze/Enigma
(didn’t argue.)
Not when the baby looked through him, not at him.
Lan Wangji/Enigma/7
(Lingered at the door, his hand still faintly clenched.)
Lan Wangji/Enigma/7
“May I visit again tomorrow?”
Jiang Fenmian/Dominant Alpha
“You may.”
Lan Xichen/Enigma/12
“We’ll stay three nights, then return to Gusu.”
Wei Changze/Enigma
“We’ll prepare rooms for you.”
As the Lan brothers stepped out, Wei Ying’s chest tightened.
He didn’t understand why the sight of Lan Wangji’s retreating form made him want to scream.
But he did not cry.
The door closed softly behind them.
Wei Changze/Enigma
(Leaned down and kissed the baby’s forehead.)
Wei Changze/Enigma
“You’ll grow strong, little one.”
He meant it as comfort.
Wei Ying heard it as a sentence.
His lashes fluttered. He blinked once, slow.
I was strong.
I fought a war.
I died for it.
But now his voice was gone. His body, small. Trapped.
And yet—no talismans pulsed at the door.
No knives raised in anger.
No betrayal behind the smiles.
Just warmth, light, and quiet.
He didn’t trust it.
He couldn’
Wei Wuxian/infant
(Turned his head and saw Jiang Yanli peeking from behind the curtain.)
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
(She had returned with a piece of sweetcake hidden in her sleeves.
She crept in, her braids bouncing.)
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
(whispering) “A-Ying? Are you asleep?”
Wei Wuxian/infant
(Blinked up at her.)
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
(She Grinned)
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
“You remember me, don’t you?”
Wei Wuxian/infant
(Blinked again)
And something in his chest cracked.
She wasn’t his Shijie. Not yet.
But she felt like her.
She knelt by the cradle and held out the sweetcake.
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
“Can babies eat sweetcake?”
Wei Changze/Enigma
Wei Changze’s voice rang from the hall.
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
(Stuffed the cake back in her sleeve with a giggle.)
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
“Then I’ll save it. When you grow up, I’ll make you lots.”
He Watched her, still.
He didn’t understand this life.
He didn’t understand why Jiang Fengmian called himself Papa Feng now.
Or why everything smelled like home but wrong.
He knew only this:
He wasn’t supposed to be here.
He’d already died.
And yet—
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
(Jiang Yanli leaned close and rested her hand gently over his.)
Wei Wuxian/infant
Warmth surged through his tiny palm, Not spiritual, Just her, Jiang Yanli
Jiang yanli/Omega/Six
(gently) “Don’t worry, A-Ying. We’ll keep you safe.”
Wei Wuxian/infant
Didn’t understand why they made his throat tighten.
But he believed her.
Even if everything was broken.
Even if nothing made sense.
He believed her.
The wind outside stilled.
Wei Changze/Enigma
(Wei Changze returned, lifted him, and cradled him against his chest.)
The baby’s eyes slowly closed, lashes still trembling.
And for the first time since waking in this body—
Wei Ying slept.
