The after-party was loud, crowded, and full of people Zen barely knew.
Music blasted from the speakers, guests laughed and drank, and alphas and omegas mingled in every corner.
Zen Sutton (DA)
Man, this is suffocating.
Zen muttered, weaving through the crowd with a polite smile.
He’d been stuck making small talk for half an hour and needed a break.
He finally slipped out into the open corridor. The noise dulled instantly.
He breathed out, loosening his tie.
Zen leaned against the wall, pulling out his phone, when something at the edge of the crowd caught his eye.
An omega stood alone a little further away, glancing around like he was searching for someone.
Leonel Quinn (DO)
(looking around)
He whispered under his breath.
The omega was striking. Not flashy, not attention-seeking—just… beautiful.
His sharp yet soft features stood out, and there was this quiet presence about him that made Zen forget how to breathe for a second.
Without thinking, Zen lifted his phone and snapped a quick picture.
Zen Sutton (DA)
Okay, calm down, Zen.
He muttered, staring at the blurry photo.
Zen Sutton (DA)
You’re acting like a creep.
But when he looked up again, the omega was gone.
Zen straightened, scanning the crowd.
Zen Sutton (DA)
Where did he go?!
Zen ran a hand through his hair.
Zen Sutton (DA)
Great. One second I see the most beautiful omega of my life, the next—poof. Gone.
A familiar voice called from behind.
Navin Avery (A)
Zen! What are you doing out here?
Zen turned to see Navin jogging toward him, looking concerned.
Navin Avery (A)
We’ve been looking for you. Everyone’s gathering for the group toast inside.
Zen Sutton (DA)
Forget the toast, Nav. I just saw… him.
Navin Avery (A)
(blink) Who?
Zen Sutton (DA)
The omega. Gorgeous. Perfect.
Zen Sutton (DA)
I think I just found my mate.
Navin gave him a flat look.
Navin Avery (A)
Zen, you fall in love every two weeks.
Zen Sutton (DA)
This is different.
Zen Sutton (DA)
I’m telling you, this is it.
Navin Avery (A)
(sigh) Okay, love guru. But we have to go inside before people start asking questions.
Zen shoved his phone into his pocket and followed him back into the after-party, but his mind was already spinning.
Whoever that omega was, Zen wasn’t going to let him slip away again.
chp 2
Zen followed Navin back inside, the noise and chatter instantly washing over him again.
He was still distracted, mind running circles about the omega he’d just seen.
Navin Avery (A)
Can you at least look like you’re having fun? People are going to think the love guru’s lost his touch.
Zen Sutton (DA)
I’m fine. Just… thinking.
They were halfway through the corridor when someone brushed past him. Zen blinked.
An omega, balancing a stack of chairs almost taller than him, walked quickly in the opposite direction, clearly in a hurry.
Zen reached out and stopped him by lightly catching his arm.
The boy stumbled to a stop, lowering the chairs slightly to glare at him.
Zen quickly pulled out his phone, unlocking it and holding up the blurry picture he’d snapped earlier.
Zen Sutton (DA)
Do you know this person?
The omega blinked at the screen, then at Zen like he’d just asked the dumbest question in the world.
Rae Bennett (O)
No. (flatly) Now get tf out of my way, I’m busy.
Zen was taken aback by the sharp tone.
Zen Sutton (DA)
You don’t have to bite my head off. I’m just asking a question.
The omega gave him a look—eyebrows raised, eyes narrowed.
Rae Bennett (O)
Congratulations. You just wasted thirty seconds of my life.
And with that, he shifted the stack of chairs and walked off without another word.
Zen stood there, completely thrown.
Zen Sutton (DA)
What the hell...
He muttered, watching the omega disappear into the crowd.
Navin Avery (A)
What’s with you?
Zen Sutton (DA)
That boy is rude.
Zen said, still staring in the direction the omega had gone.
Zen Sutton (DA)
Rude, with a capital R. And he’s got attitude for days.
chp 3.
The after-party was buzzing with laughter and music, but Leonel barely noticed.
He walked quickly through the crowd, focused on finding Samantha.
He almost bumped into a tall alpha holding a glass of wine.
Leonel murmured, bowing slightly as he slipped past.
The alpha gave him a brief look, distracted, and Leonel kept moving. As he glanced back just once, he saw the alpha stumble and splash his wine on someone else when trying to dodge him.
Leonel didn’t stop. He had no time for that.
Finally, he reached Samantha, who was standing near the stage, chatting with a few guests.
Leonel Quinn (DO)
Samantha.
Samantha Hart (O)
Leonel? What’s wrong?
Leonel Quinn (DO)
I’m sorry.
He said, his voice low and even.
Leonel Quinn (DO)
Something urgent came up. I need to leave right now.
Samantha blinked but quickly nodded.
Samantha Hart (O)
Oh… that’s fine. Thank you for coming, Leonel. I hope everything’s okay.
Leonel Quinn (DO)
It will be. Congratulations again. I’ll call you soon.
And with that, he left the party without another glance, slipping away into the night.
