Taehyung’s POV
It started with laughter.
Polite, harmless, careless laughter. The kind that echoed too brightly in expensive hotel halls and stuck to your skin like perfume you didn’t choose.
Jungkook’s promotion party was grand , of course it was. The company spared no effort in celebrating its rising star. Waiters floated by in crisp uniforms. Glasses clinked. Plates were passed. Everyone looked proud. Everyone was his.
I stood near the buffet table, clutching a mocktail I hadn’t sipped. My cheeks hurt from smiling. The kids were off with their friends. Jungkook was in the center of it all — glowing under the golden chandeliers, surrounded by colleagues, superiors, admirers.
People who mattered now.
???
???
You’re Taehyung, right?
???
???
Jungkook’s husband?
A woman asked, the corners of her eyes crinkling with polite warmth.
???
???
I’ve heard so much about you.
I nodded. Smiled.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
Nice to meet you.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
I hope you’re enjoying the party.
Another man — older, possibly his manager chuckled beside her.
???
???
College legends, you two.
???
???
Everyone used to talk about you. Jungkook and his mysterious boyfriend.
???
???
You were like a walking fairytale.
???
???
Gorgeous, quiet, and impossible to reach.
People always remember appearances. Not effort. Not dreams. Not the way I used to stay up organizing events, balancing lectures, sketching blueprints of a future where I wasn’t just someone’s shadow.
I used to be... more.
But I let it all go. For family. For love.
For him.
I tried not to look at him too long. Jungkook was laughing, gesturing, at ease with the room. I knew that version of him ...confident, quick-witted, golden. The man everyone admired.
I wasn’t bitter. I told myself that so many times, I almost believed it.
Then I heard it.
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
Oh, my wife?
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
He doesn’t work. Just stays at home, takes care of the kids and my parents.
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
Lucky me, huh?
They laughed.
He laughed.
I didn’t.
I couldn’t.
Just stays at home.
I stared at my glass. The room was spinning quietly.
Those words — they didn’t feel like a joke. They felt like a scalpel.
All those mornings I packed lunchboxes, kissed scraped knees, washed laundry that no one noticed. The nights I stayed up with sick children while he slept soundly beside me. The birthdays I planned. The hospital visits I managed alone. His mother’s appointments. His father’s medicines. The PTA meetings. The bills. The grocery lists. The mental math of everyone else’s needs, day after day.
All of it, shrunk into five words.
"Just stays at home.”
I left the room without anyone noticing.
Maybe that’s what hurt the most.

Chapter 2

Jungkook’s POV
Taehyung was quiet the whole ride back.
He didn’t say much at the party either, but that wasn’t new. He was always the quieter one — observant, composed. He said little, but meant everything.
Still, something felt… wrong.
His silence on the drive wasn’t peaceful. It had weight. Like it had grown claws.
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
You okay?
I asked casually, glancing over.
He nodded.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
Hmm.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
Just sleepy.
Liar.
He didn’t fall asleep, though. Just stared out the window, eyes tracking nothing.
At home, we tucked the kids in — Seon begged for one more bedtime story, and Hana curled into Taehyung’s side like a cat. He smiled softly at them. Kissed their foreheads. Brushed their hair.
His hands were always so gentle. Even when I didn’t deserve them.
The next morning, he didn’t eat much. My mom complained the curry was too watery. He apologized. I said nothing.
By the third day, I couldn't ignore it anymore. The house was colder. Quieter. Even the way he walked felt distant, like he was shrinking into himself.
I found him folding laundry in our room, meticulously, like the routine was the only thing keeping him from falling apart.
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
Tae.
I said, sitting beside him.
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
Talk to me.
He didn’t look up.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
About what?
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
Are you mad at me? Did something happen?
He sighed and folded another shirt.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
I want to work again.
I blinked.
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
You want to… work?
He finally met my eyes.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
The kids are older now. I don’t need to be here all the time.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
I want to do something.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
...For me.
I didn’t answer right away. I didn’t know how. Not because I didn’t want him to but because the thought had never even crossed my mind.
In my head, Taehyung was always home.
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
But Tae… mom—
He laughed, short and humorless.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
I knew you’d say that.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
It’s always her.
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
No, it’s not that—
I started.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
You know the worst part?
He interrupted.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
I waited. For years.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
For you to ask me how I felt.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
If I wanted something else. If I missed who I used to be.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
But you never did. You assumed I was fine.
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
Because I didn’t complain.
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
That’s not fair. You never said—
Jeon Taehyung
Jeon Taehyung
You never asked.
He said quietly.
And there it was.
All the noise in my head stopped.
Because he was right.
I never asked.
And now, I didn’t know if he was still the same person waiting to be seen or someone already too far gone.

Chapter 3

Taehyung’s POV
Once you realize you're invisible in your own home, everything starts to echo differently.
The footsteps. The ticking clock. The sound of plates hitting the sink.
Even the hum of the washing machine felt louder than the conversations I was having these days.
After that night, I didn’t expect Jungkook to change overnight. I didn’t want grand gestures. Just... recognition. A flicker in his eyes that told me he saw me.... really saw me.
But the next morning, he left for work like always. Kissing my cheek absentmindedly, saying:
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
Don’t forget to pick up Seon’s project supplies.
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
He has that science thing.
No, good morning. No, are you okay?
It was like the conversation we had didn’t exist. Like my quiet confession had dissolved into the laundry pile I was folding at the time.
So I went about my day like I always did. Cleaned. Called the school. Paid a bill online — took me fifteen minutes longer because the site was different now. Everything changed in fifteen years. Interfaces. Passwords. Processes.
People.
Hana came home from school with a drawing. Me, her, and Seon in the kitchen. He’d drawn Jungkook too — far off in the corner, holding a phone.
Jeon Seon
Jeon Seon
He’s always working.
He said when I asked why.
Mrs. Jeon (Jk
Mrs. Jeon (Jk's Mom)
You know, when my husband was alive, he never had to lift a finger.
Mrs. Jeon (Jk
Mrs. Jeon (Jk's Mom)
I did everything. That’s what a wife does.
I smiled politely.
That word again — wife.
I wasn’t angry that they called me that. I wasn’t even offended. It was the idea behind it. That I was supposed to be silent, grateful, always available. A soft shadow in the background.
They never saw me as someone who had a degree. A dream. I was once a top student. I had ideas. I had offers. Until I became theirs.
Until I let myself disappear.
At night, Jungkook lay beside me on the bed, watching videos on his phone. He laughed once. Didn’t show me what he was laughing at.
He didn’t ask how my day was. He didn’t ask why I was curled up facing the other side of the bed.
He just assumed it would fix itself.
Like love was a machine you could leave running and expect it to stay oiled forever.
.
.
Jungkook’s POV
I thought it was just a phase.
People have phases. Taehyung was going through something, sure. He was quiet, but not angry. Not yelling. Not storming out.
So I told myself we were fine.
That night, I came home late. The office had run over, and I stopped to pick up a cake Seon wanted for his school party.
When I entered, the house was dim. My mother was in the living room, watching TV, muttering about the news. Hana was asleep on the couch — Taehyung had probably told her a bedtime story there.
He wasn’t in the kitchen. Or the bedroom.
He was sitting on the balcony alone, wrapped in a blanket.
Just… staring.
At nothing.
I stood there for a moment. Watching him.
He used to be so vibrant. So full of thoughts he couldn't wait to share. Now he looked like someone who had run out of words.
When I walked over and sat beside him, he didn’t move.
Jeon Jungkook
Jeon Jungkook
You okay?
I asked quietly.
He looked at me. And smiled.
A small, polite smile. The kind you give strangers who hold the door for you.
That hurt more than I could admit.
I didn’t know how we got here. And I didn’t know how to bring us back.
But the distance between us was growing. Quietly. Bit by bit. And I was too slow to keep up.
