Under The Moonlight
Chapter 1
It was a beautiful day. The sun rises, and the rays enter Megan's room. She slowly opens her eyes.
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(Shouting from the kitchen) Megan. Wake up. Break fast is ready
Megan
(Stands up and walk to the restroom to freshen up. As, she does she look at the time on her phone and ......) AHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Megan
(Runs out of her room wearing her suit) I'm late. I'm late. I'm late. I'm late
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Reading his book) I even tried to wake you up
Megan
(Irritated) You should have tried harder... Gotta Go.... Byeeee (Runs out)
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
Bye
This is a normal day at Megan's house.
James (Megan's Dad)
(Walks out of his study) She left.
Sia (Megan's Mom)
Right now..
James (Megan's Dad)
That Girl (Shakes his head)
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(Chuckles) She sure takes after you
James (Megan's Dad)
(Smiles) Well that's my daughter.By the way did you see our new neighbour?
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(Looks at him) Yea. A young man
James (Megan's Dad)
Let's go vist him. As neighbours let's welcome him to the area
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Nods)
Sia (Megan's Mom)
Sounds great. Let's wait for Megan to get back too
James (Megan's Dad)
Sounds great
As the time pass the sun sets. It slowly gets dark out
Sia (Megan's Mom)
Did you call her?
James (Megan's Dad)
(Shakes his head) She might still be in her office. Let's wait for a while.
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(Phone Rings) Its Megan. (Picks it up) Hey. Where are you?
Megan
(On call) Still stuck in office Mom.
Sia (Megan's Mom)
Oh. We were about to go welcome our new Neighbor.
Megan
You guys go ahead. Sorry Mom. I have a meeting now. Bye (Cuts the call)
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(Sighs)She'll be late
James (Megan's Dad)
(Stand up and places his hand on his wife's back) That's fine. Let's go for now.
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(She smiles at her husband and nods) Caleb come on.
The three walk to their neighbors house and ring the bell
Lucas
(Opens the door) Yes?
James (Megan's Dad)
(Smiles) I heard you had just moved recently. We are your new neighbors. You are the backyard with us.
Lucas
Oh really? I was just about to meet you guys, actually. Please come in.
As of the backyard. Yes They share the same backyard
The family walks in and boxes all over
Lucas
I'm sorry I still haven't fully finished unpacking
James (Megan's Dad)
That is fine. We could help of you like?
Lucas
No. No. that is fine. I got some people to come in tomorrow to help me. I would offer tea, but the stove is not arranged yet.
Sia (Megan's Mom)
Sounds like you are far from settled
Lucas
(Chuckle) You could say that.
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
Wow. Do you read books????
Lucas
(Looks at the kid) Sometimes. Yes
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Runs at a small collection of noise kept on the table)
Lucas
You like reading, kid?
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Looks at him and nods excitedly)
Lucas
(Smiles) Well I'm done with those books You can take them if you like.
Sia (Megan's Mom)
Please don't. He already has a lot at home
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Pouts at his mom)
James (Megan's Dad)
Anyway. I think we will take our leave for now. But you can join us for dinner if you don't mind
Lucas
(Shakes his head.) No,, thank you. I'll be ordering something later.
James (Megan's Dad)
(Nods) Well then see you around
The family leaves. As time passes......
Megan
(Opens the door sighing)
Sia (Megan's Mom)
Welcome back
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
He was a nice guy
Sia (Megan's Mom)
We were just talking about our new neighbour.
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
He gave me new books too
Megan
(Scoffs) How many books do you want????
James (Megan's Dad)
(Walks out of his study and Looks at his daughter)
Megan
(Looks at him too and walk away not talking to him)
James (Megan's Dad)
(Sighs)
Megan
(Grabs a canned drink from the fridge)
James (Megan's Dad)
Megan we have to talk...
Megan
(Stops) I have nothing to talk to you. We had an agreement to never talk to each other.
Megan
(Sighs and Walks out to the backyard) Talk? He wants to talk now? I hate him I hate him
The cold breeze blows over as takes a deep breath. She sits on the chair nearby and looks at the moon opening her drink
Lucas
(He was smoking before she come to backyard) Every expressive of you (Blows out the smoke)
Megan
(Gets startled) Whoa
Lucas
(Chuckle) Calm down. I'm the new Neighbor
Megan
(Looks at him) Oh. Sorry, didn't notice you there
Lucas
(Wave his hand dismissive) That's fine. Mind I sit her. If you don't like the smoke I go the corner of the yard.
Megan
That's fine. You can sit
Lucas
(Keeps the Ashtray on the the table)
Megan
(Softly)Did you hear what I said?
Megan
(Looks at him) None of your business (Takes a sip)
Megan
(looks at him) Megan
Lucas
Nice to meet you (stretches his hand for a handshake)
Megan
(Looks at his hand and sigh) Same here (Shakes his hand)
Lucas
(Smiles at her takes another Puff)
They both stay quiet looking at the night sky till they went back to their houses. It was a peace none of them had experienced before. They have seen the night sky before this was different.
Both fall a fell with a smile as the day ends

Chapter 2
The day starts as Lucas wakes up. He freshens up as he checks his phone for any messages. He clicks on a notification and sighs ready to start his day.
Lucas
(Walks out to his shared backyard to smoke a cigarette. As her takes another Puff he hears Megan from the house)
Megan
(From inside to her mother) I'm late for work again See you tonight.
Megan
(Smiles and finishes his cigarette) Well time for me work too. (Goes back in and opens his laptop to starts typing)
Lucas
(Look at the door curiously and goes to open it)
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(Standing in front of Lucas smiling) I just wanted to give you this. Im sure you do have not set up your kitchen to cook anything.
Lucas
(Looks at her astonished) I...You didn't have to do that Ma'am.
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(Chuckles) Please call me Sia.... (Gives him a box)
Lucas
(Nods and he takes it) Thank You. I was just about to order food actually.
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(Smiles) I have to go now.
Lucas
(Smiles and nods watching her leave. He closes the door and looks at the box. He sets it on the table and opens it)
Lucas
(Smiles sadly and takes a bite) It's good.....(as tear escapes his eyes as he takes another bite.) It's wonderful. (He continues eating as he cries)
Megan
Finally a break…(stretches and takes her phone out) Is the new chapter uploaded?
(As she is looking into her a phone someone taps her shoulder)
Megan
(Gets startled and turn around) Ahhh!!
Alex
(Chuckles) Calm down. You always get so scared
Megan
(Sighs and hits his arm) I told you stop scaring me.
Alex
(Smiles)How can I? Its fun
Megan
(Narrows her eye at him) I hate you
Alex
(Smiles) Love you too
Alex
If I don't irritate you how can I be a good best friend
Megan
(Sigh) I still cannot believe I keep you around as my best friend. (Goes back to her phone)
Alex
(sits next to her) I'm guessing you are looking if your favorite author uploaded a new chapter..
Megan
(Nods as she scrolls through her phone) He should upload it today or tomorrow
Alex
(Smiles) You are obsessed with this guy
Megan
He is a good author.
An alarm ring on her phone.
Megan
(Sigh) Back to work I guess
Alex
(Chuckles) Liven up a little. Don't be so dead.....
Both bicker as they go back to the office
Times passes as night falls.
Megan
(Opens the door to her house) I'm back..
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
Helloo
Megan
(Looks at him and pats his head)
James (Megan's Dad)
(Talking to Sia looks at her)
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(Looks at Megan too) Hey. Dinner is almost ready.
Megan
(Nods as she opens the fridge for a drink and goes to the backyard tired) I'll be in the back. (She opens the door to see that Lucas was already outside smoking)
Lucas
(Turns around and looks at her)
Megan
(Bows a little) Hello
Megan
(Sits near him on the chair near him) Is this going to be a daily thing?
Megan
(Opens her can) Meeting you here at night..
Lucas
(Chuckles) Its calming sitting her at night.
Megan
(Nods) I understand what you mean (Takes a sip)
Lucas
Just back from work?
Megan
Yea. I like spending some time here after work. Kind of refreshes me.
Megan
(Looks away) T..Thank you....
Megan
I heard you gave my younger brothers some books.
Lucas
(Chuckles) He looked excited after seeing them.
Megan
He likes reading alot
The wind breezes past them as Megan takes another sip and Lucas smokes.
Sia (Megan's Mom)
Meg!!! (Calls her from inside)
Megan
(Turns to the house) I guess it time for dinner. (Finishes her drink and looks at Lucas) I have to go now....
Megan
(Stand and about to leave)
Lucas
(Smiles) I'll see you tomorrow
Megan
(A small smile cracks as she nods) Tomorrow (She walks away with a smile)
Lucas
(Looks at the moon again smiling as her puts out his cigarette and goes to his house)
Both goes to bed again smiling and hoping to see each other in the backyard again
Chapter 3
The next morning was rather gloomy. An overcast sky with the sun hidden behind the clouds. It was normally a weather you would want to wrap yourself self in a blanket and stay in bed...
Megan
LATE LATE LATE AGAIN!!!
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
You don't have to announce it every day. We know.
Megan
(Runs out of the room and knocks on Caleb's head as she takes a bread) Shhh (She's runs out of the house)
Lucas
(He had woken up early in the morning. He looks out of his window as she sees her run. He Chuckles as her turn around and sits infront of his laptop)
After a while Lucas goes to his backyard for a smoke and he sees Caleb building a pyramid with cards
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Looks at him and smiles)
Lucas
(Puts his cigarette back in the box and Smiles back) Hey Kiddo
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
Hello...
Lucas
(Walk to him) Playing alone?
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Nods) Mom hates that I sit inside the whole day reading reading
Lucas
(Chuckles) I understand. My mom hated that too.
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Looks at him) So... You living alone?
Lucas
(Looks at his house and smiles sadly) Kinda. Don't you have school?
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
Holidays…
Lucas
Ahh. Makes sense.... What grade are you in?
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
6th grade. (Focusing on building her card pyramid)
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
Don't you have work?
Lucas
I don't do a 9 to 5. I freelance basically.
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Looks at him and blinks a few times)
Lucas
(Checking the pyramid) Looks solid.
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(In a proud tone) I know.
Lucas
(Chuckles) So... You close to your sister?
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Looks at him and nods) You met her?
Lucas
(Smiles) Yea. Right in this backyard too.
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
After she gets back from work I guess
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
You can say we are close. She loves me alot.
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
Why do you ask?
Lucas
... Just making conversation (His phone ring. He checks the caller and sighs) I have go back right... See you around.
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Looks at him leave) See you.
Megan
(Sighs as she is working) Godddd. So hectic.
Alex
(Enters her office) Hello Miss Megan?
Alex
(Comes in chuckling) I come baring gifts. (Showing two cups of coffees)
Megan
(Looks at it with sparkling eyes and stretches her hands) Yes..... My love...
Alex
(Gives her the coffee)
Megan
(She takes a sip) Amen....
Megan
(Looks at him) Your comedy level has dropped down by so many levels.
Alex
(Scoffs and looks at his coffee) So... You free tonight by any chance...
Megan
(Remebers last night)
Lucas
(Smiles) I'll see you tomorrow
Megan
(A small smile cracks as she nods) Tomorrow (She walks away with a smile)
Megan
(Smiles for a second before she stops and clears her throats) I need to go home tonight.
Alex
(Noticed the smile but does not question it) Oh....Alright. Thought we could go for karaoke.
Megan
(Frowns) Maybe tomorrow
Alex
(Looks at her with a smile) Sure. Tomorrow then
Megan
(She Smiles and nods)
Alex
(Stands up) Alright. Gotta go. I have work to do.
Megan
(Groans) Why remind me?
Alex
(Chuckles) Good luck.
The night falls and Megan returns home
Megan
(Groaning as she enters the house) So tired.....
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(Looks at her) Welcome back.
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Looks at her as she walks by) Lucas mentioned you today.
Megan
(Freezes and Runs back to her brother) What?
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Looks at her) I met him in the backyard this afternoon. She asked about you.
Megan
(She Looks at him) Did he say something?
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Shakes his head) He just asked if we are close.
Megan
(Sighs and goes to the fridge)
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(Looks at her confused after seeing this scene) You ok?
Megan
(Nods and takes a drink out) You know where I will be.
Megan
(She opens before opening the door to the backyard. She takes a deep breath and opens the door to find no one) Uhmmm (She slowly walks out)
The wind blows as she looks around to find no one.
Megan
(She sighs and sits on her chair) What was I even expecting? (She takes a sip of the juice)
A door opens from behind and Lucas comes out
Lucas
(Looks at her and walks to her) Oh. You're here early.
Megan
(Looks at him) Maybe your late.
Lucas
(Chuckles) You do realize you are meet by coincidence and none of us have any idea what time we come out here right?
Lucas
(Sits near her and lights his cigarette)
Megan
(Looks at him) You look tired....
Lucas
I haven't been able to sleep too well.
Lucas
Work stress you can say
Megan
(Chuckles) I relate to that.
They both look at the moon in silence for a while
Lucas
The moon is beautiful...Isn't it.
Megan
(Nods and takes a sip) Its really is....
The sit in silence as Lucas smokes and Megan sips her juice
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
(Peeking from the door) Interesting...
Sia (Megan's Mom)
(To Caleb from the kitchen) Did you call your sister?
Caleb (Megan's Brother)
Megan....Dinner Time.
Megan
(Looks that the house and then at Lucas.) Uhmmm....Listen..I will be coming home late tomorrow.
Lucas
(Looks at her) Got a date?
Megan
(Shakes and her head and waves her hand) No No. Just going out with my best friend
Lucas
(Smiles as he looks down and nods) Sounds Nice
Lucas
(Looks at her again) So you will not be here tomorrow night?
Look into into each other's eyes for a while and....
Megan
(Flinches and turn back and then looks at him) I'm sorry. I need to go now. I'll.....see you.
She walks aways leaving him alone.
Lucas
(Looks at her as she fades into her house and sighs)
The night was just as gloomy as the day for the two as they thought about next night.
