My friends and I would often hang out in groups.
These gatherings usually included each other’s friends too, sometimes acquaintances as well.
Not always all together, but often enough that we crossed paths.
This particular time, I was out with an acquaintance who had a cheerful personality, and her friend who was quite the opposite.
All of us liked writing or would write for our own sanity.
Maybe that was the reason we spent most of the time together.

Dew looked away, sipping her drink.

I could see Dew scowling at his words with the corner of my eye.
I always thought she liked him but never pointed it out. I was no one to do so.

Dew didn't come this time or Steve and I just arrived early
A guy I didn't know arrived soon after us.
It was almost christmas, so we were sharing our Spotify wrap.

I left a message for him on the tree

The app was so cute I couldn't believe he was the one who suggested it.
I had a Christmas tree who my friends could decorate virtually, writing a message for me that I can open on Christmas day only.
I always loved christmas but something like this existing made it even more intresting.
I texted Steve to share my link so that he could leave a message for me as well... If he wished to.

It was Christmas now, so I texted Steve to wish him.
I didn't bother wishing Dew as she had been distant since our last hangout.
I quickly opened the app Steve suggested after wishing everyone to see the letters.

We were mostly formal always unless I was sick and he knew.
As I was sick and menstruating I decided to not go out this time, that's when Steve's reply came.

"lol, so not coming today?"
Carolyn
"Y'all are there?"

"oh, so you didn't go"
I opened our group chat and read the recent texts. It seemed like Dew was arguing with Steve because she was jealous of someone.
Steve
"Can you help me with something?"
He moved closer and cupped my face.
I moved back not knowing what to say getting another apology from him.
We didn't talk much after that as I decided to sleep.
