Chapter 1
The Event Hall — Lux Museum Tower
Golden lights, thick velvet curtains, too many voices. The scent display for edible fragrances glows under crystal chandeliers. The chaos begins just before the introductions.

Zǐwēi, after the toast, I’ll call you up.
Don’t be nervous. You deserve to be seen.
Lu Ziwei
Just a little dizzy

There’s too much perfume in the air.

A crash interrupts the speech. One of the guests collapses—some chemical reaction. Cameras swing. People scream. Hàorán tries to regain control, but Zǐwēi’s body tenses. Panic floods him. He rushes to the hallway, avoiding every hand.
While ziwei walks in the hallway, Someones calling him

Are you really safe?
Lu Ziwei
Yeah.. I just bump into someone near the exit.
Jin Haoran

Lu Ziwei

Meanwhile, in the opposite hallway, the man Zǐwēi bumped into checks his sleeve, where the fabric is crinkled from the Omega’s panic. He watches the crowd disperse. He says nothing. He leaves without looking back. Jìn Yàoshēn never gets introduced. He never sends a message. But he never forgets the way Zǐwēi smelled like clove and fear.

Gu Mǐnchéng steps out of the lab just as a sleek black car pulls up. The door opens—smooth, silent.
A man gets out. Tall, sharp suit, expensive everything. Hair slicked back like he owns the air around him. No smile. No hesitation.
He walks straight toward the lab like he’s here for more than scent.
Gu watches, sipping tea slowly.

Rich. Flashy. Definitely not here for free samples.

The door closes behind him with a hush. The lab smells like dried jasmine and smoked resin—familiar, yet distorted. Jìn Yàoshēn exhales slowly, pulling out his phone under the name he’s using: Wēn Yùzhēn. He types with practiced calm.

Hello. I’m here for the scent consultation. You said 11:50?
A bottle clinks softly somewhere beyond the curtain. A faint rustle of paper. Then a reply appears with almost eerie timing.
Lu Ziwei
Are you the one who wants something edible... and unforgettable?
Yàoshēn tilts his head. The way that was worded—it wasn’t careless.

Let’s say I prefer things that leave an impression.

There’s a pause. On the other side of the curtain, Zǐwēi brushes golden pollen from his wrist. He glances at the name again.

[ He…smells familiar ]

Yàoshēn’s finger lingers on the screen. His throat tightens. The room smells of honey he can’t touch.

Yaoshen pointed at the seat in ziwei’s desk
Zǐwēi finishes the final vial for Wēn Yùzhēn’s request. The scent curls in the air—bitter honey over soft base notes. It feels like regret tucked into silk.
Yàoshēn doesn't react, but something in his eyes flickers. He doesn't thank him. He leaves quietly.
