UNTHINKABLE AFFECTION

In the rooftop, the wind quieter than usual.Luke hugged his knees, stealing glances at Aiden who hadn't said much all evening.

You have been different lately
Aiden didn't answer first. He stared at the sky like it could hide him
Aiden
(finally) my dad not doing well. He's stopping down from his work abroad.....
And asked me to take over. Just for a while
Aiden
(noddIng) i didn't want to tell you yet. I guess. I wanted to hold into this - as -a little longer
luke
You didn't want it to feel like goodbye
Aiden
Yeah, a pause. If it were up to me I'd stay
Luke leans into him, wrapping his arm around Aiden.

You're still selfish though for making me love you this much
Aiden hugs him tighter. The night stays silent but their hearts are loud, holding on even as time slips away

🌧️ The train leaves in 40 minutes. it's drizzling. The sky is gray like their hearts Luke stands near the old bus stop bench hoodie pulled over his head hugging his arm tight. Footsteps approach.
luke
I was scared you wouldn't 😊
Just the sound of rain hitting the pavement. Luke doesn't look up.
luke
Why does this hurt so much?
Then suddenly arm around him. A hug tight, safe like they are trying to memorize the shape of each other.
Aiden
(whIsper) if i wasn't leaving I'd kiss you right now.
luke
(barely audible) then kiss me anyway
And he does. In the rain soft, desperate. Everything they never said, finally poured into that one kiss.
The train station: they walk side by side, speaking Luke hands are in his pocket, clutching tightly at nothing.
Aiden
They are calling final boarding.
They stop at the edge of the platform. The wind carries the sound of the engine rumbling in the distance. Luke finally looks up, eyes glassy.
Aiden
(pause) If i stay now, I'll never go. You'd start hiding again.
luke
I never wanted to hide from you,
Aiden
I know, and I never wanted to leave you but sometimes... We have to leave, to become the person we're meant to be.
