Bride by Mistake
Chapter 1: The Deal
The grand Reyes estate in London was quiet, but the air was heavy with tension. Serena stood outside the living room door, clutching the hem of her plain dress. Tonight would decide everything, though she had no idea how much her life would change.
Mrs. Reyes
(cold) Sit down, Serena.
Serene Reyes
(nervous) Mother… why did you call me?
Mr. Reyes
(angry) Vivian ran away.
Serene Reyes
(shocked) What? She… ran away?
Mrs. Reyes
The wedding is tomorrow.
Serene Reyes
(panicked) But… what happens now?
Mr. Reyes
(harsh) You’ll marry him.
Serene Reyes
(pleading) Me? Why me?
Mrs. Reyes
(bitter) You’re all we have left.
Serene Reyes
(scared) But he’ll notice.
Mr. Reyes
(flat) He doesn’t care.
Serene Reyes
(hesitant) What if I refuse?
Mrs. Reyes
(threatening) Then we lose everything.
Serene Reyes
(broken) Everything?
Mr. Reyes
(cold) Our company.
Serene Reyes
(resigned) I… understand.
Mrs. Reyes
(firm) Then go.
Mrs. Reyes
Wear Vivian’s dress. Smile.
Serena rose, her heart pounding as she left the room. Outside the door, London’s city lights blurred through her tears, as she realized she’d just agreed to become a bride by mistake.
Chapter 2: The Wedding Night
- Hotel suite, the Ritz-Carlton, London -
The wedding had been a blur. Serena hardly remembered the vows, the flashes of cameras, the cold weight of Alexander’s gaze. Now she stood alone outside the suite door, her hands trembling as she reached for the handle.
Alexander Kingston
(cold) You’re late.
Serene Reyes
(nervous) I… I’m sorry.
Alexander Kingston
(flat) You kept me waiting.
Serene Reyes
(timid) It wasn’t intentional.
Alexander Kingston
(hard) Yet you came anyway.
Serene Reyes
(hesitant) I… didn’t want this.
Alexander Kingston
(bitter) Neither did I.
Serene Reyes
(quiet) Then… why agree?
Alexander Kingston
(dry) To get what I want.
Alexander Kingston
(cold) Take off the veil.
Serene Reyes
(shaking) Y-Yes.
Alexander Kingston
(blank) So it’s true.
Serene Reyes
(startled) What?
Alexander Kingston
(dark) You’re not her.
Serene Reyes
(pleading) Please… don’t be angry.
Alexander Kingston
(hard) Too late.
Serene Reyes
(scared) Will… you send me back?
Alexander Kingston
(flat) No.
Serene Reyes
(confused) Why?
Alexander Kingston
(dark) Because you’re mine now.
As he stepped closer, Serena’s breath hitched. Beyond the window, London’s skyline gleamed, cold and unforgiving — just like the man she now called her husband.
Chapter 3: First Morning as Mrs. Kingston
- Master bedroom, Kingston Penthouse, London -
Morning light spilled into the penthouse bedroom. Serena lay awake long before he stirred, staring at the ceiling, her stomach tight with dread. Today, she would have to face him again — as his wife.
Alexander Kingston
(cold) You’re awake.
Serene Reyes
(nervous) Yes…
Alexander Kingston
(flat) You didn’t sleep well.
Alexander Kingston
(blank) Not used to this bed?
Serene Reyes
(quiet) Not used to you.
Alexander Kingston
(hard) Get used to it.
Serene Reyes
(meek) I… I’ll try.
Alexander Kingston
(studying) Good.
Serene Reyes
(hesitant) Would… you like breakfast?
Alexander Kingston
(dry) No.
Serene Reyes
(soft) Alright…
Alexander Kingston
(dark) You’re afraid of me.
Serene Reyes
(honest) Yes.
Alexander Kingston
(flat) Good.
Alexander Kingston
(blank) Fear keeps people in line.
Serene Reyes
(sad) I… see.
Alexander Kingston
(firm) We have dinner tonight.
Serene Reyes
(startled) Dinner?
Alexander Kingston
(cold) My family.
Alexander Kingston
Wear something proper.
Serene Reyes
(weak) Yes… Alexander.
Serena watched him leave the room, her hands clenching the sheets. Outside the window, the Thames glimmered in the sunlight, but all she felt was the shadow of his presence.
