Ep1
A voice raised through the ER intercom, Doc Zhan.
Xiao Zhan
"Prep the OR! Severe lacerations on both wrists. 20-year-old male, unresponsive, probable suicide attempt!"
Nurse said "Vitals crashing. BP dropping fast. He’s lost a lot of blood!"
Xiao Zhan
"No time for hesitating. We save him, or he dies. Let’s go!"
He bursts through the ER doors with gloves on, leading the gurney to operation room.
Meanwhile, outside of operation theatre. Wang Yibo and Lui Haikuan rushed with a dead body.
Wang Yibo
he enters with a covered body bag, face expressionless but jaw tense* "Murder victim. Female. Another one. Same reports."
Liu Haikuan
Behind Yibo, Haikuan feets rushed, his lips muttering. "This bastard’s getting bolder. Third one this week. Left her to rot in a parking garage."
Nurse (at reception) said to zhan in a relief manner. "Dr. Xiao is in surgery. Trauma wing. He’ll see the case after stabilizing a patient."
Wang Yibo
Yibo glances toward Zhan and his slightly leaning onto the recipient table, then the red light blinks above the door. "He saved the last one, right?"
Liu Haikuan
Haikuan grins slightly "Guy’s a miracle worker. Also, intense as hell." he leans in, whispering "do you think he’ll talk to you?"
Wang Yibo
"He’ll have to."
Xiao Zhan
Clamp the artery! We’re losing him again. Suction!"
Wang Zhuocheng
"I swear, Zhan, you’re gonna die before 35 if you keep this up."
he locks eyes with him as he hands a suture needle "But you’ve got this. Just breathe."

he removes gloves, blood on forearms, face pale with exhaustion. "He’s alive. For now."
Wang Zhuocheng
he's grinning, arms crossed "Another soul dragged from death by Dr. Zhan. That’s one hell of a record."

"They keep trying to die... I just keep sewing them back together."
Wang Yibo
Soon yibo approaching slowly, his eyes scanning Zhan. "You’re the attending Xy patients. You saved the suicide victim."

Zhan turns towards him, his eyes narrowing
"And you’re the one who keeps sending me corpses."
Liu Haikuan
Haikuan smiles widely, clapping his hands once "Ohh, I like this tension." he elbows Yibo lightly "He’s spicy. You sure you’re ready for him?"
Haikuan has always been a rotten mouth. And mostly childish.
Wang Yibo
Yibo ignores Haikuan, to Zhan "Did the boy say anything before he passed out? Names? Places?"
Xiao Zhan
Zhan shakes his head "He barely had a pulse. You want answers? Let him live first."
Wang Yibo
"Listen.. This case needs his statement-"
Wang Zhuocheng
Zhaucheng steps between them, his sharp voice as a brick, "If you want to bark orders, Officer Wang, do it outside my hospital."
Wang Yibo
Yibo stares at him, deadpan. Trying to scare him but nothing works "Noted."
Xiao Zhan
"He was… strange. Cold. But something in his eyes. I think He cares." Zhan texted him in midnight while sipping soup in a mug.
Wang Zhuocheng
"Yibo? Yeah. i think that too but- Stay careful. I don’t trust this city right now."
Xiao Zhan
"Neither do I. But something about this case… it feels personal."
At the same time, Yibo sat beside Haikuan, his head feels heavy.
Wang Yibo
"He’s efficient. Focused. But hiding something."
Liu Haikuan
sipping bubble tea smugly "And yet, you didn’t stop looking at him. Maybe you’re hiding something too."

"What would i'll be hiding from you?" he took a breath to calm his head.

In the Evening, Shennai General Hospital.
It was quite except of few people husted footsteps.
Wang Yibo
Yibo pushing open the door, his voice low but sharp "You’re her attending doctor?"
Xiao Zhan
Zhan turns around slowly, holding a clipboard "She was admitted two nights ago. Found in a drain, drugged, disoriented. Extreme trauma signs-"
Xiao Zhan
he tried not to show his unnecessary frustration. "Why are you here at this hour, Officer Wang?"
Wang Yibo
he walks up beside the bed where a fragile girl lies, trembling even in her sleep. "Because she’s our only living survivor. The bastard left her alive for a reason."
Wang Yibo
"I need to question her before the trail goes cold."
Xiao Zhan
Zhan quickly steps in front of Yibo, blocking the way "No. She’s in no condition for interrogation. She screams when the lights flicker. She flinches from her own reflection-"

"You know she's so traumatize.."

His voice rising slightly, frustrated "And while we coddle her, the rapist is free to take someone else. Maybe a kid next time. Maybe another corpse on my desk." he paused. "She could end this. If she remembers anything..."

zhan shakes his head before cuts him off firmly, "This isn’t about what you need, Officer Yibo. It’s about what she needs. And right now, she needs to feel safe- not interrogated by a man in uniform." He said and pointed towards his hard uniform clothing.
Wang Yibo
His expression darkens, he steps closer, towering over Zhan. "This isn’t personal, Doctor. This is my Job."
Xiao Zhan
Zhan takes a bold step forward, eyes defiant. "And I don’t care. You want her alive to talk? Then let me do my 'Job'. You touch her now, you lose her forever."
Wang Zhuocheng was behind the curtain, fidgeting inside the drawer.
Wang Zhuocheng
"Whoa. Testosterone’s thick in here. Should I get a tranquilizer for one of you?" Said to both of them, but didn't look.
Xiao Zhan
"I said no questions. Not yet." to Yibo.
Wang Yibo
he sighs through clenched teeth "You're protecting her more than your own staff."
Wang Zhuocheng
He smirks before giving a full nod. "That’s because he doesn’t like people who point guns where healing is needed."
Xiao Zhan
"Come back in two days. Maybe she’ll be able to speak. If not, you’ll wait longer." he just said and made yibo leave.
Wang Yibo
His fist clenched, silent for a second "You better hope she can talk then." he turns, walks out without another word
Outside Hospital, Haikuan is waiting, leaning against a police SUV, sipping coffee. He thought it would take longer but Yibo returned quickly.
Liu Haikuan
"So? Did Doctor Perfect give you what you wanted?"
Wang Yibo
"No. He’s protecting her like she’s glass."
Liu Haikuan
"You know what your problem is? You’re trying to punch your way through a locked door instead of asking for a key...He’s not your enemy, Yibo. You two are just doing your work."
Liu Haikuan
"Maybe she's really scared." Talking about the patient.
Wang Yibo
"So am I. I’m scared of what happens if I don’t stop this guy."
he put on his seatbelt before diving away. "And of how powerless I felt in that room."
Liu Haikuan
"Then maybe… start by listening next time.."
Xiao Zhan Texted Zhuocheng in night.
Xiao Zhan
"He came at her like a hammer. I nearly lost it."
Wang Zhuocheng
"He doesn’t know how to feel. Or ask. That’s why he comes in like a bulldozer."

In the early morning, Shennai General Hospital.

Standing outside Room 214, still in his overnight scrubs.

his hands are trembling slightly, holding a clipboard but not reading it.
his eyes are red due to bloodshed, puffy n' sleepless.
Nurse: In soft voice, "Dr. Xiao... She passed away at 4:07 AM. No sudden distress. Just… stopped breathing."
she continues, "reports said it was a mix of trauma-triggered parasympathetic shutdown and dissociation. Basically… she let go."
Xiao Zhan
"Loss of senses... her mind broke, then her body followed."
his voice cracks quietly under his breath, the guilt cutting deep
Xiao Zhan
"I should’ve done more. I should’ve stayed with her longer." His finger clench around the clipboard.
Wang Yibo
he steps out of elevator, eyes locked to a familiar figure, walking with purpose but unaware of what’s coming. "Dr. Xiao."
Xiao Zhan
He turns to him slowly, unable to speak. "Yes?"
Xiao Zhan
Zhan took in Yibo's simple dress. A white shirt with down hair. Decent.
Wang Yibo
"Where is she? I came early. Thought maybe she’d talk today.. Just needed one word. A tattoo, A name, Anything."
Xiao Zhan
His mouth opens, But no sound comes. He lowers his eyes, after a long pause "She’s gone."
Wang Yibo
Stares in dumbfounded, doesn’t blink. Doesn’t speak. A sharp inhale. "Gone? where?" soft, but it lands like thunder
Xiao Zhan
he nods, still doesn't looking at him. "Her vitals were fine last night. I thought she’d... hold on. But her brain stopped first."
Wang Yibo
he steps closer, jaw tense, almost angry "But you said she needed rest. That she’d talk."
Wang Yibo
"You said she'd make it." his voice rises, just slightly. About to yell… but then. his eyes fall on Zhan’s face. wet, exhausted, defeated.
Wang Yibo
he look away and swallowed his words. 'No point of scolding.'
Wang Yibo
"Did she show anything? Symptoms? Patterns before she... let go?"
Xiao Zhan
Finally looks at him "She stopped reacting to light. Then voices. Then... touch. Her pupils didn’t dilate when she cried."
Xiao Zhan
he continued, "It was like her soul shut the door quietly behind her."
Wang Yibo
Yibo whispers, more to himself, "She gave up before we could give her justice." long silence between them
it was a empty hallway bench where they both sat silently.
Xiao Zhan
he said softly, "You want to be angry. You want to blame me. I wouldn’t stop you."
Wang Yibo
he shakes head once. Looking into her postmortem report "I’m not angry at you,... I’m angry she was left alive just to die differently."
Xiao Zhan
"There was something carved into her scalp. Hidden under her hair. I didn’t notice it at first. I saw it last night."
Xiao Zhan
"It was a crescent. Cut with something sharp. Like a ritual"
Wang Yibo
his eyes narrow "A crescent? Same as the symbol carved into the last victim’s thigh."
Wang Yibo
"This isn’t random violence. This is a pattern."
Nurse walks up with a sealed bag.
Nurse: "This was with the girl’s belongings. It was in her coat lining. We didn’t see it until we were cataloguing." she hands it to Yibo
He opens it. A torn photograph. Half burnt. The other half shows a man’s silhouette beside a white van.
Wang Yibo
his voice hardens, "Finally… something real." he quickly stands up "I’ll have my team restore this. And trace the vehicle."
Xiao Zhan
"Do it fast. I can’t bury another one." he whispered but Yibo just happened to hear 'em.
Wang Yibo
He pauses before walking away, voice unexpectedly gentle
"You stayed with her longer than anyone ever did.. I don’t think she died alone because of you, Doc Zhan."
He leaves. The sound of his boots fades.
Zhan sits alone, exhausted. Zhuo quietly appears beside him, his hands in his pockets.
Wang Zhuocheng
"You okay?"
Xiao Zhan
Not even pretending "No."
Wang Zhuocheng
he bumps his shoulder to cheer him up. "Then be not okay. Just don’t drown in it. We still have more to save."
