When You Look At Me Again
Chapter 1: The Boy in the Garden
Welcome to my new story✨️
The Jeon estate was grand — all white marble and trimmed hedges — but to seven-year-old Kim Taehyung, it was simply the place where he lived.
Not his home. His mother’s employer's home. A place where he was always careful to stay quiet, keep his shoes off the rugs, and bow when he passed someone with a last name that wasn’t Kim.
But there was one corner of the estate where Taehyung never felt the weight of his status — the back garden, where the flowers grew wild and the heir of the Jeon family smiled just for him.
A bright orange ball flew through the air, and Taehyung squeaked as he fumbled it, nearly falling backwards. He caught it just in time, laughing breathlessly.
Jungkook stood a few feet away, grinning with the reckless confidence only a seven-year-old alpha could have. His black hair was a mess, his cheeks flushed from the sun, and his shirt untucked like always.
Jungkook
Told you! you could catch it.
Taehyung beamed, hugging the ball to his chest.
Jungkook
You gotta be fast too, dummy.
Jungkook teased, jogging closer.
Jungkook
You're gonna be my partner when I become pack captain, remember?
Taehyung
We don’t have a pack.
Taehyung mumbled shyly, glancing toward the kitchen window where his mother worked.
Taehyung
We’re just people.
Jungkook
Then I’ll make one.
Jungkook
And you’ll be in it.
Taehyung’s heart stuttered.
He knew Jungkook didn’t mean it like that. He was a kid. But still — the words made something warm bloom in his tiny omega heart, something that would take root and never quite leave.
He looked down, blushing.
That evening, as Taehyung sat on the servant cot beside his mother’s feet, she combed his soft brown hair and smiled.
Mrs. Kim (Taehyung’s Mother)
You like that Jeon boy a lot, don’t you?
Taehyung hesitated, then nodded.
Taehyung
He’s my best friend.
His mother hummed softly, brushing a hand over his cheek.
Mrs. Kim (Taehyung’s Mother)
Be careful with your heart, baby.
Mrs. Kim (Taehyung’s Mother)
Omegas…
Mrs. Kim (Taehyung’s Mother)
We feel things deeply. Especially for alphas like him.
Taehyung didn’t understand what she meant.

Chapter 2: The Scent of Something New
By the time they turned thirteen, the world had started to notice the difference between Jeon Jungkook, the alpha heir, and Kim Taehyung, the maid’s omega son.
The boys didn’t notice it — not at first.
They still ate lunch together. Still climbed the old oak tree in the Jeon backyard and threw apples at each other until Seokjin scolded them from the kitchen window.
Someone whispered in the school hallway.
???
That Jeon Jungkook’s always with him?
Taehyung had heard it. He hadn’t said anything.
Jungkook, meanwhile, was unaware. Or maybe he was just uninterested in gossip.
He slung an arm around Taehyung’s shoulder easily, casually, like he didn’t feel the stares.
Jeon Jungkook
You’re getting taller.
He noted one afternoon, as they walked home from school together.
Jeon Jungkook
Soon I’ll have to look up at you, and that’ll ruin my whole alpha vibe.
Kim Taehyung
You’ll always be scarier than me.
Jeon Jungkook
I’m not scary.
Kim Taehyung
You punched Jackson last week.
Jeon Jungkook
He called you a stray.
Taehyung stopped walking.
Jungkook glanced at him, surprised.
Kim Taehyung
You… punched him for me?
Jungkook frowned, eyes darkening a little.
Jeon Jungkook
You’re mine.
Taehyung’s heart did that thing again — like it forgot how to beat and then tried to catch up all at once.
He looked away, cheeks burning.
Kim Taehyung
Don’t say that.
Kim Taehyung
I’m not… yours.
Jungkook said, proud and oblivious.
Jeon Jungkook
And I like my Tae.
That night, Taehyung lay in bed staring at the ceiling.
His body was starting to change. He’d begun taking blockers recently — his first heat wasn’t far off, and the school required all omegas to start suppressants.
His mother had been gentle about it, as always, but her hands had trembled when she gave him the pills.
'You have to be careful' she had said.
'Alphas can be kind when they’re young… but things change. People change.'
He didn’t want Jungkook to change.
But deep down, part of him knew… things were changing.
He was starting to feel things. Strong things. Soft things. Wanting things.
And he didn’t know if Jungkook would ever feel the same.

Chapter 3: The boy with the Cherry Blossom Smile
First year of high school smelled like sharp bleach floors, cafeteria pasta, and hormonal chaos.
Jeon Jungkook fit in instantly. He always had.
He walked down the hallway like he owned it — dark eyes, confident smirk, alpha scent just beginning to thicken with age. Girls turned to look. Some whispered behind their hands. A few even dared to flirt between classes.
He ignored all of them. Mostly.
Because Jungkook only had eyes for his best friend — or so Taehyung liked to believe.
He transferred mid-semester.
Soft voice. Polite tone. Perfect grades. And the kind of beauty that made teachers pause when he walked in. He smelled like spring — like fresh cherry blossoms and clean wind.
Taehyung noticed Jungkook staring the moment he walked into their classroom.
He also noticed the subtle change in his best friend's scent — sharp, curious, awakening.
Something in his chest sank, quiet and low.
Later that day, they sat under the tree by the field like always. Jungkook was lying back on the grass, arms folded behind his head, while Taehyung picked little flowers and twisted them into rings.
Jeon Jungkook
He’s pretty.
He didn’t have to ask who.
Jungkook turned his head toward him, smiling lazily.
Jeon Jungkook
You think he’d say yes if I asked him out?
The flower ring in Taehyung’s hand snapped between his fingers.
Kim Taehyung
I… I don’t know.
Jeon Jungkook
You’re soft.
Jeon Jungkook
You always know what to say.
Taehyung forced a smile, even as his throat tightened.
Kim Taehyung
You could ask him yourself.
Jeon Jungkook
Nah, he’d say no.
Kim Taehyung
Maybe he likes shy alphas.
Jeon Jungkook
I’m not shy.
Jungkook said, indignant.
Taehyung laughed softly — but it felt like glass in his mouth.
That night, in the kitchen, Seokjin gently touched his shoulder.
Jeon Seokjin
You’re quiet today, sweetheart.
Namjoon joined them with a warm smile.
Jeon Namjoon
Jungkook told me he likes a girl at school.
Taehyung’s hand trembled just a little as he washed the dish in the sink.
Kim Taehyung
I hope she makes him happy.
Namjoon looked at Seokjin. Seokjin looked at Tae.
Neither of them said the thing hanging heavy in the air.
"He used to only look at you, Taehyung."
