The hallway was too long.
Claire ran down it, barefoot, clutching her handbag to her chest like it held her heart.
Her son, Marcus, kept up beside her, taller than her now, but still just a kid.
Claire Blue (FL & Marcus's mom)
Where's my daughter?!
Claire Blue (FL & Marcus's mom)
Where is she?!
Marcus Blue (FL's brother)
Mom, calm down.
Marcus said, trying to catch her arm, but she pulled away.
A scream echoed from down the corridor.
Then came the cry of a newborn baby.
Claire stopped in her tracks. Her eyes widened.
Claire Blue (FL & Marcus's mom)
That's my baby girl.
She whispered, and without another word, she ran toward the sound.
They pushed through the double doors of the labor and delivery room. Claire's eyes swept across the room and landed on her daughter, lying in a hospital bed, holding a tiny bundle in her arms.
Avery Blue (FL)
Oh, Mom...
Her daughter Avery said, tears in her eyes, a tired smile on her face.
Avery Blue (FL)
It's a boy.
Claire's hand flew to her mouth. Then she walked over, leaned down, and kissed her daughter's forehead.
She turned her eyes to the baby. His skin was red and wrinkled, his little fists waving in the air. But his eyes, deep and dark stared up, calm and blinking.
Clair smiled, soft and sad.
Claire Blue (FL & Marcus's mom)
He has his father's eyes.
Marcus stepped closer, still breathing a little hard from the run.
Marcus Blue (FL's brother)
Great job, sis.
Avery Blue (FL)
Thank you.
Claire sat on the edge of the bed. her hand rested on her daughter's arm.
Claire Blue (FL & Marcus's mom)
So what are you going to do?
Claire Blue (FL & Marcus's mom)
You don't know anything about his father.
Avery's smile faded. she looked down at her baby, rocked him slightly.
Avery Blue (FL)
I don't know.
In the hospital's registration room, a nurse handed her a clipboard.
Nurse
You can fill out the birth certificate here.
Avery wrote her baby's name slowly. Her handwriting shook just a little.
when she reached the line that said Father's Name, she paused.

Episode # 2
The room was quiet except for the soft rustling of papers.
Avery sat at desk, a thick textbook open in front of her, notes scattered around. Laptop before her.
Her baby boy slept in a small bassinet nearby, wrapped in a light blue blanket. His tiny chest rose and fell gently.
She tried to focus on the words in front of her, but her eyes kept filling with tears.
She wiped them away quickly, pressing her palm to her mouth so she wouldn't make a sound.
Her father walked in, his footsteps soft. He had a glass of water in his hand.
He set it down on her desk, then stood beside her in silence for a moment.
When she looked at him, he signed.
Fernando Blue (FL & Marcus's dad)
*sign language*
Princess...you need to rest. Don't be hard on yourself.
She gave him a tired look, her hands moving slowly in response.
Avery Blue (FL)
*sign language*
I need to help you and Mom.
he smiled, just a little, and shook his head.
Fernando Blue (FL & Marcus's dad)
*sign language*
I know.
Fernando Blue (FL & Marcus's dad)
*sign language*
But don't be hard on yourself. You just brought a healthy baby boy into this world. Now...take care of yourself too.
Avery Blue (FL)
*sign language*
okay.
Her father sat on the edge of the bed, watching her.
Then he asked, carefully.
Fernando Blue (FL & Marcus's dad)
*sign language*
Why didn't you include him...on the birth certificate?
She looked away for a long moment, eyes fixed on the sleeping baby.
Avery Blue (FL)
*sign language*
I don't really know him.
Avery Blue (FL)
Not really.
Then she added, her hands trembling a bit.
Avery Blue (FL)
*sign language*
The name he gave me...was fake.
Avery Blue (FL)
*sign language*
I couldn't write a lie.
Her father reached out and took her head squeezing it gently.
Fernando Blue (FL & Marcus's dad)
*sign language*
You did the right thing.
she looked up at him, her eyes red.
Avery Blue (FL)
*sign language*
Even if he has no father listed?
Avery Blue (FL)
*sign language*.
He has you. He has us. That's enough.
She smiled and looked over at her son, still sleeping.
Avery Blue (FL)
*sign language*
I just want to do this right.
Her father stood and leaned down, pressing kiss to her head.
Fernando Blue (FL & Marcus's dad)
*sign language*
You already are, princess.
And with that, he walked out, leaving her into the quiet warmth of the room with a sleeping baby, an open book, and a little more peace in her heart.

Episode # 3
The music box spun it's delicate tune drifting though the marbled halls like a whisper.
A tiny ballerina twirled -arms poised, foot extended, face frozen in grace.
Across the room, the real ballerina danced.
She moved with effortless elegance, her dark hair was pulled back into a perfect bum, not a strand out place.
Her movements were precise, disciplined. Beautiful.
But her eyes–they were focused. controlled. Empty.
Around the edge of the rehearsal room, four bodyguards stood like status. Suits, earpieces, arms folded.
One near the mirrored wall. Another at the door. Two more flanked the windows, watching without watching.
She knew they were there. She always knew.
The room was long, cold and full of voices. A group of older men sat around a dark wooden table, arguing with each other.
At the head of the table, sat a young man, he said nothing.
One of the guards leaned close to him and whispered something in his ear.
The young man stood up. His face cold. Without a word, he turned and walked out of the room.
All the men stood quickly as he left, like they were afraid not to.
They heavy door closed behind him with a soft click.
There was a long silence.
Then one of them let out a shaky breath.
Mr. Kim
I still can't believe an old group like us is being led by someone that young.
Another man slammed his hand on the table.
Mr Pit
It's because all your stupid plans keep failing.
He leaned forward, voice low.
Mr Pit
We need to get rid of him. Too.
