The sun was high as the members gathered on the sprawling training field, the hum of excitement buzzing through the air like static. Leona adjusted the strap on her combat gear, her sharp eyes scanning the crowd. The familiar faces of her teammates mixed with new ones, but the one who grabbed her attention immediately was Arthur McLyne, the President’s grandson, who stood beside Roinne with that usual cocky grin plastered on his face.

Leona sighed. Of all things, why did she have to be on the same team as him again? She wanted to glare, wanted to tell him off, but the announcement came before she had the chance.

“Alright everyone!” called the Warden, loud enough to cut through the murmuring crowd. “This month’s training will test your teamwork and trust. Your efforts will decide the winning teams who take home a 13% bonus and a one-month vacation to Country L.”

A cheer broke out, loud and eager.

Leona’s pulse quickened despite herself. That vacation was a dream come true.

Roinne clapped his hands next to her, smiling warmly. “Looks like we’ve got a shot at the prize again.”

“Yeah,” Leona muttered, trying to ignore Arthur’s mocking smile as he sauntered closer, “Ready to lose, McLyne?”

Arthur chuckled. “In your dreams, Ceill.”

The teams had been sorted by colored papers, and Leona’s blue team was ready to go, standing shoulder to shoulder with Roinne, Arthur, and the others. They needed to pick three representatives for the "Bloody Up" event — a fast-paced duel using toy pistols loaded with colored water and toy knives.

Leona felt her irritation heat up as Arthur immediately volunteered himself with that familiar smirk. Roinne and Leona exchanged a glance before Leona nodded to herself. She volunteered too, able to handle herself well in close combat, while Roinne took the last spot.

The whistle blew, and the representatives lined up under the bright sun, ready to face their rivals.

Arthur cocked his fake pistol and aimed at Leona, teasing, “Ready to get soaked?”

Leona rolled her eyes but kept her stance steady. The water bullets splattered, and the chase was on.

Brilliantly combining swift moves with clever feints, Leona dodged Arthur’s shots and tagged his shoulder with a burst of red. Roinne was fierce and tactical, handing their team the winning edge. The crowd erupted in cheers.

Despite the adrenaline and fun, Leona’s mind lingered on one thing — maybe Arthur wasn’t just the annoying brat she always thought. Maybe there was more under that smirk.

But it didn’t mean she’d stop telling him off — not yet, anyway.
