Chapter 1
They called it the glow–a rare, soul bound phenomenon that only a few ever experienced.
It wasn't just magic. It wasn't just romance. It was deeper then both.
At the age of 19-20, every student underwent the Glow Evaluation Ceremony, a magical test that determined whether their soul held the potential to “resonate” with another. Most didn’t pass. Those who did were whispered about in hallways like living legends—people destined to find a bond so strong, their souls would physically react. They would glow.
But no one could force the glow.
It couldn't be choosen.
It couldn't be faked.
It only happened when two people shared something real.
A bond strong enough to shake the soul awake.
To pull energy from one another so intense it shimmered in the air—visible only to those involved… and sometimes, those sensitive to soul-magic.
Some glowed through romantic love.
Some glowed out of grief, protection, even rage.
And some never glowed at all.
That’s why the ceremony was both a gift and a curse.
To pass it meant you had a chance.
To fail it meant... maybe you'd never be enough.
Every year, the entire second-year class gathered in the old hall behind the main building—the one wrapped in ivy and enchantments.
Students lined up in silence, nervous and hopeful. The air buzzed with faint energy—tingling on skin like static. Inside, enchanted crystals floated above a black marble altar. Teachers watched quietly, while a Glow Examiner, dressed in robes marked with silver thread, stood with a long, narrow staff.
Each student was asked to place their hand on the altar. The stone was cold, humming faintly under the palm. If the student had potential—if their soul could resonate—would spark. A small light would float above their hand, sometimes flickering like a candle, sometimes burning bright like fire.
That meant they could glow.
If the stone remained still, cold, and dark...
They had no glow potential. Their soul simply wasn't tuned that way.
There were rumors—of people who glowed even after failing the test. But no one believed them.
The ceremony wasn't about who you'd glow with.
It just told you if it was possible at all.

Miss Vivi gave a glare at Adrian as she noticed him chatting around which in return Adrian laughed awkwardly and walked towards the altar before putting his hand on the stone, his heart beating fast then ever.
He looked at Riley who was still standing and cheering him as Adrian suddenly noticed the look on Riley's face. Their eyes met before he slowly turned to look at the stone. Hoping it was glowing.

All the students standing their started clapping as Miss Vivi silenced them with her one glare before gesturing for the next student to come and have his/her test.

The student walked towards the altar and put his hand on the stone as it immediately started glowing with golden colour. It was definitely rare. The whole school was looking at him in awe.

Riley walked towards the altar and put his hand on the stone as he closed his eyes and inhaled. He didn't really cared much about glowing but he was curious. Curious as to how it felt to glow, to be special.

The stone remained the same.

Riley looked at Adrian who was not there anymore.

Riley asked a student about Adrian who told him that they saw Adrian going towards the nurse office with a boy.
He rushed towards the nurse office, wondering if Adrian was injured.
But as soon as he reached he saw Afraid bandaging someone as he sighed in relief.
